Ortiz used steroids and he’s a first ballot HOF’er.
You can’t justify that in relation to Clemens, Bonds, ARod and others.
Take the vote away from the writers.

The owners really don’t understand how baseball might fall behind hockey and soccer in the eyes of American pro-sports fans and they seem dead set on making it happen.

Too many shills for billionaires. If they have no problem doing it to millionaires, they don't have a care in the world in squeezing out anyone else. But people celebrate that 1% raise they get at work like they were done a favor.

Sports team owners (Green Bay is the only one that comes close to being a 'club') don't own them to make a profit.
They own them to get a loss. Its called a tax write off.

You think he’s over the hill?
He’s only 32 coming off of a .300/30 HR/159 GP year and had great post season and got the Braves a Championship.
I don’t see the Russell Westbrook/Carmelo Anthony/Dwight Howard comparison because he’s not yet to hit the downside of his career.

Austin Riley hits an 8th-inning dinger to give the Braves a fighting chance in the 9th. I bring this up because Riley is a 25yo super-two that put up 6 WAR last year at 3B and the Braves a dragging him to arbitration over a $250K difference on $4M for 2022.

MLB teams and owners are not interested in putting winning teams on the field. They’re interested in maximizing profit margins. If that strategy also creates a winning team, so be it, but it’s not the goal. The goal is to make money.

I am probably the contrarian here but the rule changes this year suck hairy ASSU balls.
First the DH in the national league blows. Done to speed up the game and conform MLB overall but small ball is completely gone. Very little hit and run. No one wins by stealing bases anymore. The metrics have told the managers to wait for the three run HR.
Then you have the stupid rule of a pitcher having to face 3 batters minimum. No more righty on righty or left on left. The guy just has to throw and the manager just watches.
These rules are to speed up the game but last night in a 2-0 game into the 9th it was still a 3 hour game. Why does a pitcher need 15 pitches after he has warmed up in the pen? Lots of places you can cut the time and these rules will not have much of an impact.
Baseball is a shell of what it used to be. Guys used to throw 300 innings a year and pitch for 20 years. Now they go 6 innings and are done.
OK rant over

DH in the National League is long overdue. The leagues need to play by the same set of rules and there was no way the Union was going to allow 10+ veteran hitters making tens of millions to be put out of a job.
The DH didn’t stop teams from running. Ricky Henderson stole how many bases in the American League with a DH coming up behind him? It was the fear of injury to guys making millions that did it.

You are absolutely right on all of that. They stopped running and playing strategic baseball because the metrics showed you sit and wait for a three run HR and the DH does extend careers and they also hit more three run HR’s than pitchers do.
I guess I am just a get off my lawn type of guy. I have been watching baseball since 68 and it’s just not as good of a product IMO. I like the double switches, the hit and run, the second hitter sitting on three pitches because you know your guy will run. Hitting behind the runner, bunting a runner along and the suicide squeeze. Most of these strategies are now relics we read about. You can’t even make a pitching change for three hitters.
American attention span is much shorter now so you have to make something happen, I get that. I just don’t think the changes they made are what is really best for baseball.

The ghost runner in extras adds a lot of strategy into the game.
But I hate it…

OMG, I forgot about that rule. Let’s make some things up and put a runner on second. Why not go to a HR Derby tie breaker?
Time to cue up James Earl Jones and remind everybody that baseball has marked time as our national past time and messing with these rules could be bad karma. Get off my lawn rule changers

I figured you’d like that since it reintroduces tactics like the hit & run and squeeze plays.

It does but it’s just not baseball when you just run a guy out to second base to start an inning.
You then think the first play should be a bunt of hit behind the runner to move him over but both of those are a lost art with todays players.
It would creat great excitement if you could get him to third and Sac fly with a throw to the plate. They should have a stat for successful extra inning run scoring without a hit. Manufacturing runs are a lost art driven by the changes in the game
