CAL playing prevent offense. Took their foot off the gas. Let's see if we can make em pay.

Just when you think there's hope...

All on JDL. Never looked for a secondary receiver.

Why are we just chucking the ball down the field every play

I think DeLaura is a fantastic quarterback. Our D fell flat on their face in the 3rd quarter.

Another poor coaching effort today. 28-7 2nd half after we were winning at half. Cal adjusted. We shit all over the bed.

I think normally he's very level headed, but clearly he got rattled and started reverting back to some of his not so good tendencies, like fixating on one player instead of going through his reads.Carcassdragger wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 6:04 pm I think DeLaura is a fantastic quarterback. Re: Game 4, at California (2022)
Baloney, the other team was better, period.
I said it last year, this is a 4-5 year rebuilding project. We are in year 2.
Looking ahead we have only 3 winnable games on the schedule with the talent we have (Colorado/UCLA/asu).
This is likely going to be a 3-4 win season, which would match expectations. The Cats need bigger, more physical linebackers, and a few cover corners would help.

Especially when Cal was leaving the middle of the field wide open 15 yards down. Just take the first down with clock stoppage, and work with it going downfield.ghostwhitehorse wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 5:59 pmA wing-it and a prayer?Fishclamps wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 5:58 pm Why are we just chucking the ball down the field every play
Re: Game 4, at California (2022)
They couldn't stop us the first half. 24 points on 5 drives. Second half? 7 points. Wilcox, the defensive coach, made great adjustments. Fisch? None.dmjcat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 6:22 pmBaloney, the other team was better, period.

On the other side of the ball, Cal stated throwing to the TE. A player we forgot was eligible to catch the ball on about a dozen plays. Almost all 2nd half. Great adjustment by them. Opened up their entire O. Our response? Finally started stunting and blitzing in the 4th Q. By then, too little too late.
This was a winnable game. Cal isn't Alabama. The margin between the two teams talent wise isn't that big. And we outplayed them the 1st half. 2nd half? Completely different story. When that happens, you have to credit the winning team's coaching staff.
Re: Game 4, at California (2022)
No doubt the adjustments were won by Wilcox but we shout ourselves in the foot with three second half turnovers.
I think the jury is still out on Johnny Nansen and his scheme. Watching Oregon St and you see how physical they play and how hard they go after it and none of them are 4 or 5 star lineman.
I agree this is a rebuild that us still at least a few more recruiting classes away. OSU’s Smith is in his 5th year and they have just turned that corner.
Better days ahead and to get worked up over this stinker is not worth it
