So what was the play of the game. To me it is simple. After Cockburn's two free throws to put ILL. up by one. Kerr set a cross screen for ZU to score on a lay up. If you look at the ILL players there is a noticeable reaction. If we had not shown we could come right back we would have gotten nothing but a mouthful of Cockburn for the rest of the game. Great game by both teams.
Was that the play where he got it below backboard?
Great shot.

Told the guy who had been sitting in front of me “It was a good game” and he responded “Fuck off” and then literally ran out of the arena.
I’m there with two little kids and hadn’t said anything to him all day. I hope he cries himself to sleep tonight thinking about how Koloko shut down Kofi.

"Not terribly upset. IMO Arizona is as good as anyone in the country."
"...Arizona is a top 5 team now. We just lost a toss-up."
"... really glad to have played this AZ team. They're really tough."
"Az easily a top 5 team, IMO"
and just for measure...
"Arizona is a good team, but our turnovers were what killed us."
"While I can't stand losing to a dirtbag trashy program like Arizona , I'm glad we pulled off a road win at Iowa."

Quick Update from Champaign…
Illini fans are still tremendous cocks.

Why am I not surprised? Illini fans always reminded me of ASSU fans. Think their teams are better than they are.
They have a really good team. If we didn't have a mobile low foul Koloko just think of the destruction their center would cause. Not many teams as big upfront as Az.
We did get pushed off our center. Look at our dime rate. Pretty low.

Wow withstanding all those 3 pointers and a 19-0 run on the road and winning. Fucking unreal.
Seriously this.
if someone had told me how many 3's illinois would make in the 2nd half, and that they'd go on a huge run in the first half....i definitely would have thought it'd be a loss.
what a fucking game the wildcats played today, 5 on 8
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:
Frazier was the lefty wasn't he? Watching the highlights he looked like Salim. Man, that dude went off.

I watched a bunch of the broadcast of the game and the TV cameras didn’t pick up just how dirty and chippy the Illini were.
In person, I saw more than a few unnecessary elbows directed at our players’ mid-sections while jockeying for position on out of bounds plays and Illini players crashing in on balls on the floor with the intent to put a knee in someone’s back or chest.
I think Illinois thought they could out-physical us and it was obvious they got frustrated when they couldn’t. It led to the technical and a couple of turnovers down the stretch.
I also read the Illinois Loyalty recap and their fans complaining that Kofi didn’t get more fouls is hilarious. There were two key fouls (one on Koloko, one on Ballo) where they went straight up and he lowered his head and put his shoulder into their chest to create space. He did that on three made baskets in the 2nd half too; moving Koloko by using his head and shoulder as a battering ram. I’ve seen that called an offensive foul on us so many times, even at McKale. So maybe they should quit their bitching. The refs allowed their supposed All-American center to initiate contact on a stationary defender and shove them off the block to the point that if they didn’t, I doubt he would have scored more than 6 points.

CTL mentioned postgame how Kofi “lowered his shoulder” and I’m sure he said it for a reason.
We got like 4-5 offensive fouls called on us and except for Terry’s first the rest were highly questionable as the defensive player would just slide underneath without establishing position.
Yeah, I don’t get why a point guard brushing by an already flopping defender is an offensive foul but a 260 lb center using his shoulder as a battering ram on a stationary defender is somehow a foul on the defender. But according to the Cryin’ Illini fans, every Arizona player should have fouled out in the first half simply for being on the same court as their precious Kofi.

We were without Aiken and had to Uber 100+ miles from Indianapolis where our plane was diverted at night during some of the worst weather any of us have ever seen.

I only saw about the last 5 minutes of the game. How bad were the two plays where everyone in the game thread said Cockburn bulled over Koloko earlier in the half? Because the play were Cockburn absolutely knocked over Koloko (he was clearly outside the restricted area) with few minutes to go was a blatant offensive foul.
He's allowed to play like a bull in a china shop, and the Illini are bitching about calls? Not one foul on KB. What a joke.

He did that at least five times. Three resulted in made shots, once Koloko recovered to block his shot, and the last Koloko and Tubelis blocked him.
Any of them could have been offensive fouls. He put his head down and just drilled Koloko to create space. It was blatant.

Illinois averages nearly 10 3-pointers a game, which is a lot. Against the best defense they've faced, they were hitting them with no space, and Cockburn was able to plow through a single defender with friendly whistles. If they had made their 3-point average, that would be 18 fewer points. And how many times did Cockburn go iso on the block and lower his shoulder? Three times? More?
So tell me where they get their points to win two or three of these next hypothetical games.

In McKale with our reffing culture could you imagine the calls against Kofi? The Cryllini would lose their minds.

Reminded me how Shaq was allowed to play where he would dip his shoulder and knock his defender back making him pretty much impossible to defend..

haha so sour. We didn't have audio where we watched, how was the atmosphere compared to McKale? They serve beer?
Yep, they serve beer and cocktails in cans. Food options were few & far between though.
It was loud, but it was obvious they don’t sell out every game. A lot of the Illini fans didn’t know the traditions and then at the under 4 timeout in the second half they play this video begging people to stand up and cheer. It was weird because that’s what everyone had been doing, but that’s obviously not the case every game.
Also, in case you thought old people telling young people to sit down in front was just a McKale thing, some old fart kept yelling at the guys two rows ahead that he couldn’t see and to sit their asses down. They ended up moving to the aisle so he’d quit his bitching.
