(M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)

Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
The bulk of their 3's are coming from:
1) Curling off a high screen
2) AZ doubling down low leaving a Stanford player wide open
Both 1 and 2 are leading to wide open 3's
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
I remember a Tempe Normal football team from a few years ago. They lost at home to a very poor UTEP team. Coach Frank Kush went into the dressing room and told the team to leave their uniforms on and just sit there. After the fans had all exited Sun Devil Stadium he had the lights turned back on and they went out for a full scrimmage - ended about 3 a.m.
They didn't lose again that year.

Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Some of Stanford's makes were hardly defended. Arizona has a well-established tradition of giving up open 3s. The deeper into the season we get, the less you can get away with it. And by March, forget it.
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Giving up open 3s is one thing. A team hitting 50% from 3 is unusual. 66%+ is unreal.
We're also in danger of losing the 2nd half at CAL, and both halves at Stanford. Not good.

Overall, the team's execution on offense and team defense have weakened recently. I can't explain it.

Maybe rest the starters and play the rest.

Allowing a bad team like Stanford to shoot 57%? Pathetic.

We need to start our run now.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Yep. We need to go to an all out full court press.........not enough time left to just exchange buckets
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Finally.........we have brought Ballo up on the screener and have now hedged the last two screens.
Should have been doing this back in the 1st half when they were on fire from 3

We don't have to be #1 in December but we do have to beat teams like Stanford.

Boz in, he'll will miss his first shot and quit shooting.

Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
We got behind by a lot early, and it's going to end up being too big a deficit to climb out of. Can't have slow starts.
And when the other team is shooting well, we have tighten up our D. Good defense will beat good offense more often than not.

Well this one looks to be almost done… Love is having to revert to hero ball to try and keep us in the game

Not happening today. How far will we fall in the net rankings?
Stanford is 156

Even ASU beat these bums.
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
CTL needs to do some soul searching and cold blooded analysis of his drop defense to defend the screen......its increasingly not working.
Purdue beat it, FAU followed suit and Stanford slaughtered it today. We need to learn to defend the high ball screen without giving up wide open 3's

I wonder if Tommy ever rips 'em a new one, or if it's just not in his DNA.

I'm furious. We're getting manhandled by a sub 500 team. And CTL is unfazed.
We're regressing. I can see us getting embarrassed in the tournament this way. CTL hasn't learned from his mistakes.
Everybody has Youtube. Anybody can use Purdue's gameplan.

2 of those are different from the last.
“The reality is that the hardest games to win are over teams on their home court. Teams that don’t play those games can spin it however they want, but what they’re saying is, ‘We don’t want to lose in our non conference season.’" - Sean Miller

Rotten way to end 2023......at least the UA football team beat Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl

Very fitting ending
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
2-3 over our last 5.
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Hard to figure out how this team went from looking absolutely dominant in non con to just lost.
Defense has been poor and on offensive side seems like we are not looking for those extra passes and assists, not setting up Ballo. PG position has turned into a big time question mark going into the new year

Classic sophomore slump (confidence issue)
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
I can't believe we lost both halves to a sub 500 team.
And then some classless bs from Stanford

Stubbornness is what hurts good coaches (Miller) and is now hurting Tommy

Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Teams have discovered how to beat us and Floyd doesn't appear to be making adjustments. That's what concerns me most. Giving up 100 to a horrible Stanford team? The wheels appear to be coming off. I see 7 to 8 losses at a minimum with this team. Utah is good. Oregon is good. Colorado is good. The conference will not be a cakewalk. I prefer to look at things realistically. Some posters have issues with that and I really don't care. The win at Duke was the apex of the season. And at the end of the season Duke will be in the Final Four again and we'll be eliminated in the first round......again. Call me all the names you want, hurl the childish insults, ban me.....again I don't care. Zero final fours in well over two decades despite loads of talent (and cheating) kind of speaks for itself. I just don't let myself get sucked in anymore because you know the collapse is imminent. Arizona is the college basketball version of the Dallas Cowboys.
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
Stanford 64% Arizona 26.9% three point shots

Maybe 1, FAU lost to Florida Gulf Coast.
And the 2nd half of the Cal game where they scored 55 points.
3 straight halves where the Cats looked like bottom dwellers.
Is Machina back yet? I'm a #BADFAN since I was hoping he would hit it. Stanford deserved it.
This Floyd would have!Captain Obvious wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 4:26 pm Teams have discovered how to beat us and Floyd doesn't appear to be making adjustments.
Re: (M) Game #13 Arizona at Stanford (2023-2024)
This one played out almost identical to last year at Maples. I thought this team was built different.

I still think this team has a higher ceiling than last year’s, mainly because Love/Bradley/Lewis is just an immeasurably better guard situation than the Kriisa era.

Biz is not an improvement over Kriisa. I just don’t see how anyone had Boz in the draft this year. He just looks lost out there a lot. Doesn’t shoot well, doesn’t draw any fouls and is a liability on defense. IMO naturallyBeachcat97 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 6:00 pmI still think this team has a higher ceiling than last year’s, mainly because Love/Bradley/Lewis is just an immeasurably better guard situation than the Kriisa era.

He was guarding well and shooting like 70% up until the Purdue game
