The Cats are doing this without Zeus. It's the defense that stopped the Zags in the second half. Gonzaga couldn't do anything.

Considering Gonzaga is ranked ahead of us I'd hope they wouldn't drop us out for losing to them.
Luckily we'll never know.

KU's 6 point home win vs Harvard surely is though.

2-15 to close out the game. Defense really stepped up.
Would've liked to see us close out the game a little cleaner, but the last possession where Anderson scored was very nice.
The fightback was huge, and if we can make the defense a little more consistently good, that'll obviously help a lot.

Lotta fight today, wouldn't have thought we could win that game, but everybody played smarter second half all around. Showed finally we have a little bit of basketball IQ. Great job Cats!

Coach Miller on 1290: http://player.listenlive.co/26441" target="_blank
"We have very seldom lost every 4 minute segment in a half. We lost all 5 in the first half... We won every 4 minute war in the second half."
Gives York credit as well as Tollefson (!) for letting us change up D on Kyle W in the 2nd half.
12 offensive boards in the 2nd half (2 in the first)
Bench pts 14-4 for the game.

Zaga fans are largely blaming this all on crooked reffing

Great effort. Props to York (who I've been consistently down on) for stepping up like a leader and knocking down shots.
Win or lose, I was impressed that we didn't roll over and showed a ton of fight. We battled for loose balls and 50/50 rebounds. Nice.
If I was Gonzaga, I'd be demoralized. You have two studs in Wiltjer & Sabonis. But your backcourt is worthless. Without any production, you have a very low ceiling. You need guards to win in college basketball.
This is not a vintage Arizona season unfolding. But today's win showed me this team is gonna be a pain in the ass to play every night. We're gonna lose some and be frustrated as fans. But I like the fight. Props to Miller for showing Few who's the better coach. Well done. Well done.

Which is why York's bucket was quickly waived off.

Is anyone else stunned by Miller's props for Tolly? Is this team turning a corner?

Not at all. He played great on Wiltjer, denying him the ball in scoring position in the second half.

Finally got to watch the whole game. First half wasn't nearly as bad as portrayed, and honestly the second half wasn't nearly as good either.
The key to the win, again, was defense. As pure offensive skill continues to decline in college hoops--our free-throw struggles today are becoming almost commonplace around the game--the teams with the best shutdown capabilities are able to overcome hostile environments and off shooting nights.
That defines Arizona under Sean Miller, and with the right matchups, it will be enough, eventually, to return this program to the Final Four.
