I've been reading/listening to a lot of the media and one thing is certain. ASU is clearly, 100% buying their own hype. They believe (players and fans) that they are legitimately one of the best teams, top 5 in the country.

Shannon Evans is talking about being disrespected from the national media.

It drives me CRAZY that ASU people believe they can become a juggernaut just like that. They have zero clue what it means to drive a national caliber program for the long haul.

We have send these guys crashing back down to Earth.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the podcast and my blood isn't boiling. I'll be the Devil's advocate, what did they say that wasn't true? Of course they are pro-ASU, but I heard more objectivity than negativity.

Eff ASU. I respect Pat Tillman. Everything else ASU is pretty much worthless.

Hopefully we put their ranking to the test.

Interesting. UOA protects home court at McKale.

It's more logical than U of A protecting home court at Rupp Arena. It's high level analysis.

Just the whole notion that they have arrived drives me batty. I can't remember exactly what but there were several comments throughout that drove me crazy. Like, what if ASU had Ayton.. they'd surely be number 1. SMH... what if AZ had Holder. Stupid stuff like that.

Here's another: https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/ ... 988658001/" target="_blank

"It's not just a game any more, it's bigger than basketball," Evans said. "It's for Tempe, for our school, and we have to do it. They're a great team, they're well coached, but going into conference play, it's bigger than anything. What we did the last month or two doesn't matter no more."

Evans said even as one of three remaining unbeaten Division-I teams that ASU is not getting what he deems to be national respect. Case in point for Evans is a recent ESPN discussion about the nation's top point guards that did not include him or Holder.

"When you see things like that, it puts an extra chip on your shoulder," Evans said. "They hate on us so that's cool. I couldn't figure it out. I'm not an analyst so I don't know."

What if we had Herm Edwards coach our team and John Mackovic coached ASU?

One of the biggest storylines entering Saturday’s rivalry game between the Arizona Wildcats and Arizona State Sun Devils is how UA’s oversized frontcourt will fare against ASU’s small-ball style of play and vice versa.

The Wildcats might have to play small and stagger the minutes of Deandre Ayton and Dusan Ristic so they aren’t forced to guard on the perimeter for long stretches, but it doesn’t sound like that will be Arizona’s plan — at least initially.

“We’ve played a number of teams in our 13 non-conference games that have a five-man that can shoot, maybe four perimeter players around a five-man as a true center. And we’ve worked our way through that,” head coach Sean Miller said.

Not feeling confident about this one, mostly because I'm convinced arizona should win pretty easily.

Pretty similar feeling to pre Atlantis trip and Xavier game, so I got my guard up. Just got this weird feeling they rain three's on us,

I want Ristic and Ayton in there together as much as possible. I think Ristic handles White. Ayton will be fine.

I do hope that Miller is open to making changes based on the flow of the game. I think Pinder or Lee will be needed for 15-20 minutes on either White, Lake or Mitchell. If Dusan is getting easy buckets due to the attention to Ayton, that is OK too. Rawle might do OK on Mitchell. I also think one of Akot, Alex, or (don't shoot me) Smith will be needed big time. I sure hope that both Akot and Alex are ready (in all ways) for this one. I do expect to win by a single digit, but we'll need all hands on deck.

Barcello is the one we need off the bench IMO, to match up with Remy.

I agree with this . Remy has tremendous energy. ASU gets to the line a lot so we need bench production tomorrow. I'm guessing we could have some foul trouble so I'm hoping CSM ran rotate in players who can be productive. If ASU has an off shooting day rebounding is the key. No second chance points, limit dribble penetration, and make them work for everything on the perimeter. We can't give them wide open looks beyond the arc.

Dumbest article ever......good grief, how can anyone who is a UA fan think we would ever rush the court over an ASU win????? https://www.azdesertswarm.com/basketbal ... ats-tucson

Seriously, I’m ashamed that a Wildcat would even write this kind of crap.....it reeks of desperation. Has our program sunk this low? Or is this Alec Sills-Trausch a moron? Or just ignorant?

Oh and f*ck ASU!

Agree.

Additionally, I hope that (a couple of these guys) Brandon Randolph, Ira Lee, and Emmanuel Akot can rise to their highest levels and contribute today. It would be something to see given the moment.

Miller:
“I don’t know if we have a deep team,” he said Thursday.

We’re trying to figure out who we’re playing. That’s not because I’m not playing who I want to play. That’s because it’s very difficult to determine who should and that’s not a good thing. We have a lot of guys working hard. We’ve had a couple great practices since we’ve returned (from Christmas break). We had that competitive spirit in practice because there’s really no surefire thing once you get past a few players because we’re hoping it sorts itself out, but that really hasn’t been the case yet.”

it’s all about Holder in this game - to his credit he’s been brilliant all season.

Evans-Martin-Justice all feed off him and his ability to get into the lane and finish at the rim.

Having seen ASU absolutely destroy both Xavier and Kansas down the stretch in Allen Fieldhouse I don't feel confident at all.

Kansas pretty much gave up with about 5 minutes to go. Never seen that at Phog.

No doubt my voice will be gone by that time in the game. Hopefully all our cats will still be on the floor!

Would this game be an obvious case where a zone for 5 or 10 minutes here and there would be an obvious defensive weapon (not that will happen with CSM anytime soon)?

you have to think the thought that if they win, they will be number 1, and what it would mean for them.... pressure? or will it put them over the top?

I think they crumble. But really this could be their championship right here tonight.

This has to be the biggest game in the history of ASU basketball. This is like their championship game. A win gives ASU the #1 ranking and their best start ever. It also could be huge in securing them a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Based on some of their obnoxious fans and the love affair the media has with them I hope we give them a hefty dose of reality tonight. Go Cats!

We've got to smack them in the mouth at the opening buzzer and never let our foot off their necks until the fat lady sings... And some masterful adjustments by Miller if need be. Time for him to earn his pay.

We have every necessary component to compete: full strength; home court; rest and time to prepare; coaching emphasis on perimeter defense; over the top hype to begin conference play against a #3 ranked opponent our players have every reason in the world to want to make a statement against. There could all of a sudden be a lid on the hoop. They could make contested 3s all night and beat us, but if it's anything other than that we'll know why.
