Tucson for a week

I will be in Tucson for about one week in mid July with my 12 year old son, visiting family and friends. Looking for tips on cool activities for a boy. Thinking of doing the usual stuff, like Desert Museum, Pima Air and Space Museum, maybe Sabino Canyon hike, Flandrau(?), etc. Any little known stuff you can share?

Kartchner Caverns, Titan Missile Museum, Mt. Lemmon, Biosphere 2, Saguaro National Monument are all cool.

visit the UA Sky Center on Mt. Lemmon and get to look through their telescopes

Too bad the Meet Rack was closed due to the pandemic. He could have met God and gone for a tour of the sex room.

My family likes doing 4th Avenue when get together for reunions. The self guided walking tour of downtown is pretty good too if he likes history.

Tombstone is a short drive if he likes westerns.

Think Old Tucson is closed, at least for the near term.

One thing my family always does too is Sonoran Dogs.

Missed that. Yea, don't think I would go to the Desert Museum then. The Air and Space museum has a large hangar, but still a lot of aircraft outside.

One indoor venue I like is the Gaslight Theater. Always a fun place.

I also like El Tiradito. You can pair it with a nostalgia visit to El Minuto Cafe, which is as good as you remember it.

Exact same family members running it, too. With deep bitterness, the abuela recently recounted to me something that happened in the neighborhood. I asked her when it happened, and she said 1966.

Sadly, la madre at Anita St Market died of covid, but the daughters are keeping it running strong.

I went to the Air and Space Museum last week and it wasn't that bad. They actually have like 5 hangars now. There was a ton more stuff than the last time I went a couple years ago.

Desert Museum- Saturday nights are open until 9pm over the Summer...

Tour the Mirror Lab under the football stadium. I think they have 2 mirrors left to build for the Giant Magellan Telescope. Largest and most powerful telescope ever made and its not even close. Open Mon-Fri for public tours and its fascinating.

You can also do DM Boneyard tours during the week and see all the planes. Might be too hot though. Monsoon out there would be awesome

One other thing, does anyone know if I as a non-resident) can go to a clinic in Tucson and get the J&J vaccine while I'm there? I don't have time for a full course of Pfizer or Moderna, and Saudi has us stuck on one dose of Astra Zeneca (got first dose March 8, Saudi has paused second dose).

The vaccines aren't just for residents. I've had visitors come from all over and get them.
