What's the best kept secret for a trip these days? My wife wants to go somewhere at the end of February that's not going to break the bank.

Good thread idea. My wife and I are paying off all our debt so any trips we do take are relatively short and on the cheap side. For example we've only made trips recently to the White Mountains, Prescott, Bisbee, Silver City (NM), and Denver. All were nice for 3-5 days and not expensive at all.

We love Silver City. There are these great cabins we stay in (Bear Creak Cabins) Kids loved the City of Rocks

Nice, we went once 2 years ago. Considering going back in May this year to have an early break from the heat.

My brother takes Harley trips around the SW every couple months. Have to look where he has been.

I suggested this to him, but he said it's too hard on a bike. He went to Page instead, which he really liked.

Where do you live? I would think getting to NH (I assume you're out west) would be sort of expensive, no?

Ever been to Show Low, Pinetop, Greer, Alpine etc? It's all about a 3-4 hour drive from Tucson. Very doable.

What does “not ... break the bank” mean to you?

And what kind of weather are you looking for?

:D

Sadly, this place isn't hidden too much. There are direct flights to Phoenix to Santa Barbara, and SB is one of the prettiest areas I have ever seen. Should be low airfares in February, and reasonable hotel rooms, but not sure if you could do it for 2 under a grand.

Just drive to San Diego. Easy half day trip. Lots to do, reasonable hotels.

Fill up in Yuma on the way there and back.

It's gonna be in the 70s here by Monday. On the other hand:

We got Libtards,
They got Libtards,
Alamo city got Lib--tards.
We're gonna walk all over the battlefield
'Cause all south Texas got Libtards

Go over to Lockhart and have some bitchin' BBQ. Eat some blackened Redfish at Pearl. Take in a Spurs game and gunge some LSD beer.

We usually go at least once a year. Get a few families together and rent a house right on the beach in Las Conchas. Between Christmas and New Years we rented this place with 6 other families:

It's always amazing. I have a guy who delivers fresh tortillas, tamales, eggs, etc if you want his #. Also we've been doing this little cruise sail lately with Captain. Oscar.... who is an amazing human! It's like a 3 hour sail.... and all the beer and margaritas you want.... and it's pretty cheap. I highly recommend it!

Sonoran Sea is solid. I've been renting unit 404E every year in June for over a decade. If it's a busy day the swim up pool bar can get nasty by midday...

When the 10 did not go all the way through Phoenix, I used to take the 85 to the 8 to get to Tucson and stop in GB for gas.

I used to think, who the heck would ever want to live there? What a hot dry dusty miserable place.

Although I imagine there are some very nice neighborhoods away from the freeways.
