Seriously. Last time they even played in the cws finals was 1998. They've only been in the cws finals once in the last 28 yearsBangkok Wildcat wrote:http://www.scout.com/college/arizona-st ... ts?page=11
Oh Man, second best thing about this early morning is this thread......all the ASSU fans (except one or two) are moaning and making excuses......my favorite comment was: '5-1 final Scum win. Hate to say it but their program appears in better shape that ours with our last championship more than 30 years ago. Yuck....'
LMAO, really??? A little late to the game with that observation genius!

So impressive from the batcats
Re: 2016 Season thread
So here's my thinking about TCU vs CCU...
Coastal's ace probably can't go until Wednesday. 137 pitches last night, that would be 4 days of rest. Maybe they throw him Tuesday if we win Mon, but that's gonna be tough sledding. Also, they burned through their bullpen last Thursday. Not sure what they've got for tonight after the starter.
Coastal can hit, but not better than our pitchers are pitching.
Coastal would likely have the crowd support besides our fans.
TCU has 4 errors in 3 games.
That Luken Baker kid can smash.
That's all I got on them sorry guys
We've been in hostile environments, so I discount the crowd factor more than usual. I tend to lean Coastal, but mainly because of their pitching situation. They appear to be throwing their #2 guy, and he's gonna have to eat up innings for them. I think their pitching depth is a lot less than ours (assuming Bannister can go Monday).

Re: 2016 Season thread
JC Cloney, Gomez, Reves, Deason and Ming just became our most important game day concerns. We're only going to win this thing by some of the more obscure lesser played guys stepping up big-time in the pitching rotation.
If I was a betting man I would say its 60/40 we never see Bannister again. Just a hunch.
From the innings he's pitched I also think Dalbec is done for the most part for anything over an inning at most. Ginkel's pitch count is getting up there as well.
Basically it sounds like all of the teams are in the same boat pitching wise so the bats are going to be huge in the championship games.
Even with our tired arms, I think we still win this whole thing.

I will say if the we go to a third game for the winner take all Dalbec again on short rest and Bannister (if he can play) will be options in limited form.

After watching this game, definitely would rather play TCU. If anything, hopefully it gets even closer so CCU starts using their bullpen.

Is this reality, is this really happening
I thought Jay Johnson would be a great coach and seemed to check all the boxes when he was hired but did anyone ever think this season would happen???
Jay Johnson has the opportunity to be the greatest coach in the history of Arizona Athletics if he keeps this up. What he has done this year is beyond remarkable. To take some of these guys and turn them into these type of players. Speechless
Can you imagine how strong our recruiting is going to be
Man, let's bear down and bring home this national title

I would say Mike Candrea has the greatest coach in the history of Arizona Athletics wrapped up, even though he's on the downside of his career. It is very difficult to match his 8 national championships.Newportcat wrote:Is this reality, is this really happening

Re: 2016 Season thread
Do not get me wrong, I think Candrea is a God but he also is one of the luckiest coaches at the U of A in terms of the sport he coaches is not played at USC and for many years was an after thought of sport in most of the country. For basically forever he has only had to compete against UCLA for SoCal recruits which is a massive competitive advantage for him compared to other coaches at U of A like football, volleyball, golf, swimming, baseball, etc. One of the biggest competitive advantages our Basketball program has had is the fact USC typically sucks at basketball. One of the reasons I think our football program will always struggle is because of USC football in terms of them gobbling up all the top talent in SoCal with UCLA. He also did not have to deal with the SEC or Big 12 really caring about the sport he played. I mean for many years it was basically him just competing against UCLA. From 1984 through 2007 Arizona or UCLA was either the champion or in the NCAA Finals every year but once. Now things have dramatically changed where the BIG 12 and the SEC has really stepped up as well as other schools in the PAC 12 like Washington, CAL and Oregon. I think now we are seeing that maybe Candrea had some external factors which contributed greatly to his ridiculous amount of success.Catintheheat wrote:I would say Mike Candrea has the greatest coach in the history of Arizona Athletics wrapped up, even though he's on the downside of his career. Jay Johnson on the other hand took this rag tag group of players, many of whom did not perform well for a Hall of Fame coach, and turned them into legends. I think it is ten times harder in 2016 to win the College world series then it was for Candrea to win say the NCAA Softball title in 1997.
If he wins the Natty this year, I think it has to be our most unbelievable Title. Maybe 1997 for basketball would top it. But this is just crazy to think we are actually even talking about winning a Natty in 2016 for baseball. Even Greg Hansen thinks Jay Johnson is good
If this season is an indication of the type of coach Jay Johnson is, I truly believe he could be on his way to being our greatest coach ever.

I think we are the ones who decide that. It starts by unburying the Wildcat Baseball board out from under the "Other Arizona Sports" section. I think it would be awesome if we embraced the fervor that got going where the Ooh Ahh started it all. Put it in the main board index, maybe even at the top, and allow the fandom to explode around our winningest sport. Let's do it.Alieberman wrote:Are we now officially a baseball school?

Re: 2016 Season thread
Completely agree. I think it's tough to say that when the number of people who care about baseball seems so much smaller than basketball/football. I ran into a Wildcat at the grocery store yesterday (Salt Lake City), we talked for a moment, and I asked about the CWS. "I'm not a baseball guy" well ok but if you're an Arizona guy, well, you should be. But oh well.Longhorned wrote:I think we are the ones who decide that. Re: 2016 Season thread
Yeah, there's a couple of things in favor of changing that: 1) It's Arizona, and 2) Arizona Baseball is an awesome tradition of winning. So it doesn't matter if somebody is a "baseball guy." If he's a U of A guy, he'll be an Arizona Baseball guy if he's aware of what's going on. As an online community for Arizona Fans, I think we owe it to Arizona Fans to do what little we can to shine a light on our winning baseball program. What the heck else do we do that's good for anyone?prh wrote:Completely agree.
