Can Choo or anybody close to the program give me an idea if this is anywhere near what we should expect? Otherwise, I'd love to hear what it looks like, any additions/subtractions, or veterans who had great off-seasons, pitchers who added a new pitch, etc.

It's still real early, but there's not a world that exists where Ryan Holgate isn't an every day player. His bat it just too good. Outfield rotation is certainly deep. Also add Dawson Netz to the Pitchers, he should be in line to be our 4th starter if need be. Jacob Berry is going to push for PT as well. I'm not convinced Donahue is the SS. Unless he has got it all together I think we roll with Blas at SS and have an all out competition at 2B. It's still way too early regardless.

Not sure exactly what the rotation is for sure going to look like, but I'd be shocked if Chase Silseth isn't a starter for us. Jacob Berry may very well start at 3B.

In general the bats should be very good this year, but the pitching is going to be so ridiculously deep, which hasn't been the case in a long time.

It obviously will depend on the effectiveness of the starters and closer, as a lot of bodies with no standouts isn't so helpful, but it doesn't sound like that's the case this season. We've had teams with a couple of future major league pitchers, but not much behind them, but this year may really be unprecedented in having a lot of quality arms. Sometimes after about half of a season, some pitchers seem to "hit the wall", but it's probably more a case of the other teams' scouting figuring them out. In that case, it'll be nice to be able to dip into a nice deep pool of pitching options.

Early Season Stats

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

So for the most part, we're not hitting early in the season, and there were a few blowups from some of the committee of pitchers we trotted out against Ball St. I'll note that lefty Garrett Irvin was considered a contender for a starting role, but he's barely pitched to date. His availability down the road might make a difference. JJ messed with the lineup a bit, so this is kind of a composite. Supposedly a very good SE Louisiana team coming in for a four game set starting tonight at 6 and available via streaming.

Batting Order:
SS Jacob Blass .250
2B Kobe Kato .267 (Switch)
RF Blake Paugh .273
DH Ryan Holgate .429 1 HR (Left)
LF Mac Bingham .313
1B Brandon Boissiere .286 (Left)
C Daniel Susac .167 (Switch)
CF Donta Williams .188 (Left)
3B Jacob Berry .333

Bench:
3B Tony Bullard .500
C Kaden Hopson .333

Pitching Rotation:
RHP Chase Silseth 0.00 7/2 SO/BB
RHP Chandler Murphy 3.00 6/0 SO/BB
RHP Quinn Flanagan 7.36 3/4 SO/BB
RHP T.J. Nichols 3.60 3/2 SO/BB

Closer:
RHP Vince Vannelle (CL) 0.00 4/0 SO/BB

Bullpen:
RHP Preston Price 0.00 6/1 SO/BB
LHP Randy Abshier 0.00 2/4 SO/BB
RHP Austin Smith 0.00 0/0 SO/BB
(LHP Garrett Irvin 0.00 1/0 SO/BB)
LHP Ian Churchill 3.37 4/2 SO/BB
