So that was Yeskies old job right? Wonder if he is motivated to show how good of a pitching coach he really is :)

He did have three straight years where the team ERA was lower than last years

Ugh, I guess Wanaka is headed to LSU with JJ. Was hoping he would stay as his work with our hitters always seemed above average.

These coaches though are labeled “volunteer” no way do I think they do it for nothing

The volunteer assistant guy who s going to LSU.
How does one become a volunteer assistant that moves across country for same position?
Is he a trust fund guy? Day trader? How does he feed himself in the off season?

Seriously though, if the coach kicks him some cash is that some sort of violation?

Interesting that White’s tweet included Lawn but not Hale.
Hale’s youngest daughter went to Salpointe.

Wanaka was with JJ at Nevada and then AZ. It would seem he hasn’t had to file a tax return on 8 years or do if it really is a “volunteer” type position. Obviously he is getting paid in some way

With things like 1/4 scholarships and long term unpaid coaching/admin positions, it’s no wonder participation in baseball amongst people in the middle and lower classes in this country is waning.

And it’s really no surprise that inner city and rural youth would look to football and basketball as their best options to get a higher education and/or become a professional athlete. The opportunities simply aren’t there in baseball either in college or the minor leagues unless you have some kind of supplemental financial backing.

Chi, my son was a good baseball player. You’re forgetting equipment that each player needs. Bats are $400-500 or more, for example.

Club team and travel teams get very expensive. Quite honestly, it’s year round here in AZ.

He got burned out of it and tired of the BS in HS, so he switched to volleyball and focused on FB.

Makes me sad. Gone are the days when as long as you had a bat, a ball, and a couple of mitts, you could hone your skills and learn to love the game.

Don’t know if it’s the oldest staff in the country, but it most certainly is on the west coast.

Barring another pandemic wave, you probably won't be able to after this year. Very few sports where you don't have to sit out during a normal year.

When I was a kid growing up in the 60's, we were always playing ball during the summers.

I can't even remember when I saw someone playing catch, and I go to the park quite a bit. We used to practice playing pepper, where you catch a runner between bases, and this was not part of any organized team. It wasn't The Sandlot, but it was still fun and a good way to spend your summer days.

Now, at least out west, it's all about soccer, which is a year round club sport.

All I knew was baseball, football, basketball and hockey.

My oldest son tried t-ball one year, but found it incredibly boring compared to soccer.

I used to ride my bike to practice and games. I would hold my bat on my handlebars and hook my glove over the end of the bat.

Me and my buddies would ride over to the nearest park and play games and practice. We would watch Cubs games during the days if the weather was bad. Where we lived, if it was rainy in our town, it would hit Chicago the next day.

Not sure how Silseth doesn’t sign as he no leverage next year as a SR. Of course he could think he will do much better and increase his draft stock.

Those two recruits are really good players so it would be nice to hang on to them

He’s a RS Junior next year, so he does have leverage next year.

He played for Tennessee, played half a season or so for his JUCO (shortened year due to COVID) and was awarded a RS year for this year, and then played for us. What will be interesting is if he does return if he wants to be our closer or stay as a starter. Most major league teams view him as a bullpen arm, so maybe that's the route he tries to push to get drafted higher.
