Getting that Vainer kid from Alabama for next year may be quite the pickup! In 30 innings this year, he struck out 43 while giving up only 18 hits (that's a NASTY index of 2.39(k's divided by hits)) and a 3.34 ERA, in the SEC no less! Now on the negative, he did walk 21 in those 30 innings, but this guy may be the best power arm we've had in quite some time.

Now lets go sweep WSU and hope the committee focuses on our record in the last 10 games and ignores the 1-11 record vs the Top 4 in the Pac-12.

Vainer is an experienced set up man. With Weems graduating and only having Vannelle in that current role he makes a lot of sense for what we need next season. Gotta fix the pitching at all costs as the bats will be fine next year.

Was an opening week starter, MLB draft pick, and now won't be available until 2 seasons from now. Pitching takes another hit.

Didn’t LaBaut(sp) go through TJ his freshman year as well? If so that is odd

Think it depends on the timing of the surgery and the severity of the injury. Quinn Flannagan literally sat out his junior, senior, and then college freshman years due to TJ surgery. He's one of our best starters now.

On another note Baseball America has us in the tournament (barely).

Make a statement this weekend boys. An offense this hot will be dangerous in the postseason. We are used to not having decent pitching, so it's not like it could be much worse over a regional weekend.

Assuming we Finnish tonight with a win and win tomorrow and sneak into the dance, I don’t care who we play, the way we hit would always give us a punchers chance. Shorten the rotation and go to work

i'm not convinced that they make the tournament even if they beat WSU tomorrow. The Cat's have only beaten Cal once and Stanford once in the top half of the conference. Swept by UCLA, Oregon St, and 4 loses to ASU. That is 2-14 vs the top half of the conference. Who have they beaten of note in the non conference? Rice has a losing record as does Penn State. A couple of the other non power five conference teams with winning records have lost early in their conference tournaments. But I have to give the team their due. They could of easily folded up the tent weeks ago. Sweep the cougs and make Monday's tourney selection interesting!

Don’t disagree AC, especially because that would be 6 teams in from our conference which is unlike the committee. If we get in it will be because of our recent play for sure and maybe as a reward for the snub we got last year

Yeah, I hope I'm wrong but I don't see the Cats getting in. According to Boydsworld this morning, they are 46 RPI, 35 ISR. The ISR is a much more mathematically correct ranking system than RPI, but don't tell the committee that. Yes, the Cats have been red-hot lately (albeit against lousy teams), throw in the fact that they were terrible against the Pac-12's best four/five, I just don't see it.

Exactly right. The Pac-12 should have a tournament this week in Vegas at the Las Vegas Aviators new park. You negotiate a deal to use it for a week while the Aviators are out of town, the park is phenomenal and I would go every year to an event like this!

I've heard rumors of them discussing adding a conference tourney, but it would be the top 4 or 6 teams and it would be in Sacramento of all fucking places.

I hate the conference tourneys for baseball. Absolutely no reason to have all these mid major bid stealers in a sport which lends itself to having that happen. I understand why Pac12 should add one, but I'd prefer no conference has them.

I think the reason for a conference tourney in baseball is literally to hope for an extra bid. Is that everyone else's understanding?

It makes much more sense in geographically small conferences. Hell, everything in college sports either makes sense for Pac12 and no one else or vice versa.

UCF has a losing conference record so If things hold to form they shouldn’t get in. I saw they projected Grand Canyon in the same region as ASSU, That would be fun to see.

This one will be close as no doubt we are firmly on that bubble. Either the last four out or the last four in. Would love to go to Nashville and play #1. Nothing to lose for sure and we know we can hit so we would have a punchers chance

Stealing bids is bullshit. If a team only gets in because of winning the tourney, that should drop the lowest seeded at-large team from that conference out.

Would be a miracle if this team was really able to turn things around and make the tourney. Praying they do and with their offense they can score on anyone.

Proud of how they responded but still think major overhauls are needed to pitching staff and our arms for next year. This offense was too good to be a bubble team

And THIS is why you have an all inclusive conference tournament if you are a real conference with competent leadership. What exactly is the downside? One less conference series? The top teams are going to get in anyway. If the stupid NCAA is going to allow representation by those teams who win tournaments, that are otherwise undeserving, the Pac-12 is moronic for not following the pack. #fucklarryscott #efpac12presidents

BTW, the sites should be on a rotational basis to the baseball schools or Las Vegas. Period. None of this quasi (SAC) Bay Area BS.
