Can not ask for a better start. Tech is a CWS level program and we made them look like pushovers.
Re: 2022 Season
Just looking at the stats over the three days, I liked that we really limited the walks we gave up. Seems we threw a bu ch of strikes all weekend.
I know Hale has been preaching defense so I wonder if the pitching staff has a renewed confidence in putting it over the plate and giving our fielders a chance.
O’Tremba hit .500 and looks like he and Turley will fill the gap left by Berry. Did this all without Bullard this weekend.
No doubt Chip Hale loves being a wildcat so hopefully this becomes a dream season

Re: 2022 Season
The first thing I looked at after each game was to see how many errors were made. The Cats only had one error in the three games they played. I am happy to see Chip has been working with the defense. I know the season is early, but you have to feel good with the way the team played this weekend.azcat49 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 20, 2022 6:16 pm Just looking at the stats over the three days, I liked that we really limited the walks we gave up. Both Dawson and Devyn won games on the same day this past weekend. I wonder if that has ever happened with siblings winning on the same day for the same school?

Cats aren't playing well right now. Down 3-0 top of 2.

Re: 2022 Season
6 errors and 6 Freshman pitchers used will do that.
First home opener loss since 2003. Got to shake it off.

Got off to a great start this morning leading 4-1 after 1 but now we are trailing 6-4 in the third. I would like to think we have a few more arms than UMW but right now that is not ringing true.

Typical Sunday type game as it is now 8-6 Cats in the fifth inning. Both teams just running through pitchers trying to find outs

Re: 2022 Season
The scheduling is odd this year, why this needed to be a 4 game series with another game coming up on Tuesday is beyond me? That's how you set yourself up for random losses. The scheduling that makes me want to rampage is we scheduled a two game matchup against Creighton on a Monday/Tuesday and have ASU on that Friday-Sunday. Absolutely asinine!
Re: 2022 Season
Talk about taxing the arms. What is that, 8 games In a little over a week?
Are they trying to shorten the season in some way? We all play 56 games but I think we start conference play in a couple of weeks? Seems like college baseball has done something with the schedule
I looked at our schedule and we have teo 5 day road trip coming up. We play Pacific sandwiched between @Cal and home vs Stanford.
Then we have another 5 day road trip. The crazy one is we go all the way to Omaha to play Creighton before returning home on the weekend to play ASSU.
Who worked up this schedule? It is very idiotic and really makes it difficult to try and get a top 8 seed

Re: 2022 Season
Nah this isn't a shortening the season strategy and this schedule was put together by Chip and his staff. If Chandler Murphy gets healthy and is able to pitch 6 innings then the mid-week game strategy is ok, but right now it's brutal. That Creighton roadtrip comes after a 3 game Utah road trip too and like I said they have ASU just 2 days afterwards. That's a ridiculous set up and I'm not sure why they signed up for it. I know the staff likes true freshman Eric Orloff and thinks he can get a mid-week starter too, but man, it's just not a great strategy.azcat49 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 1:43 pm Talk about taxing the arms. Re: 2022 Season
Refresh my memory but didn't many of us think we were going back to "mediocre status" once Johnson bolted and took with him a few of our studs?
I know it's still early but looks like this team is pretty good, no?

Re: 2022 Season
Did Orloff start the GCU game? If so I can see why they like him. He was hurt by the Turley errors and a couple of bloop hits.
This team should be a threat for Omaha but it’s down the road we worry about just trying to get to the playoffs.
Saw Stanford beat Arkansas this weekend so they are really tough as usual

Re: 2022 Season
I think Choo's concern was recruiting, not between the lines. I mean Chip was an MLB manager and won a WS game as acting manager.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 8:20 am Refresh my memory but didn't many of us think we were going back to "mediocre status" once Johnson bolted and took with him a few of our studs?

Still lots of talent left from JJ but if Chip doesn't recruit hard, especially in Cali, things could slip.

Re: 2022 Season
Nah, this year was always going to be a solid year. Jay only took two major contributors with him in Jacob Berry and Riley Cooper and the rest of the remaining contributors stayed. It's a question of the future, which all comes down to recruiting. This year's team is at least built to make it to the Super Regionals. After this year though it's all one big question mark, especially when Jay Johnson is still fucking landing the top talent in the state of Arizona to that garbage bayou over there and he took the vast majority of 2022/2023/2024 Arizona commitments with him.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 8:20 am Refresh my memory but didn't many of us think we were going back to "mediocre status" once Johnson bolted and took with him a few of our studs?

Yeah Orloff started the GCU game and the issues with that game had very little to do with him as you said.azcat49 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 8:23 am Did Orloff start the GCU game? If so I can see why they like him. He was hurt by the Turley errors and a couple of bloop hits.

Cats are in the 8th inning and are tied with Dixie St 0-0. Not a typo as both staffs are dealing. Quinn Flanagan had a great outing for us and we have only given up 3 hits so far

1-1 going extra innings. Had a guy on third and Splain hit one to the power alley in left that somehow they caught.

About to lose a series to Texas State at home, because our hitters love swinging at pitches they have zero business swinging at.

Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: 2022 Season
Cats lose season opener to CAL. 3 run lead entering the 9th. Kept the same pitcher in who game up 1 hit, 2 walks, 1 HBP, 1 passed ball, and 3 wild pitches. CAL walks off with the win. WTF! You can't keep a pitcher in the game who can't throw strikes. Period. Don't care if he's your horse. This loss is on Hale. Very disappointing.
