So noon tomorrow. Wondering if Okie St will pitch there #1 guy as I saw an article they were going to throw a freshman. They have some rope and could hold him off but man, you are rolling the dice. Not like they are that much better performance wise than we have been.

Need Raymer and Gibby to get the bats going and maybe the noon time will allow our guys to see the ball just a little better. Really oved following these guys in JJ's year 1 and just don't want it to end yet

I think the baseball run kind of points out the silliness of the arbitrary fan bitching about Sean Miller not making a Final Four while we celebrate the CWS. It is funny how different sports are. People are killing Sean Miller because, after taking a crater of a program, and getting to the Elite Eight 3 of 5 years, he didn’t actually get to the Final Four.

In college baseball, the big deal is the College World Series…which is the Elite Eight.

So it is all about what piece is marketed. We allow marketing to make our common sense lines of success? It is harder to advance to the final eight in D1 basketball than it is D1 baseball…the northern schools are just barely a blip in baseball. Yet, because the elite eight in baseball is the (trademarked and spoken in deep voice for impact) COLLEGE WORLD SERIES, it is a success. In basketball, the marketing is the (reverent tone) FINAL FOUR. So making the final 8 in basketball, while ostensibly harder, is looked down upon because you didn’t win one more game and make it to the logoed and trademarked marketing phrase Final Four.

Another way to look at it…success is when the vendors pop up and start selling t-shirts on the street corners of Tucson. That is a Final Four in hoops and a CWS, or final 8, in baseball. Yes, the ultimate is to advance and win the title. That is the same in each sport. But that magic spot where a coach has done his job differs from sport to sport, and it is arbitrary and really based on marketing rather than reality. In football, it used to be making a major bowl. Football is a different beast, so each program has its own level of success, but the new 4 team playoff has taken away impact from making a major bowl. Making the Rose Bowl was the penultimate experience for a PAC/Big 10 team. Now, you can be like Stanford and be a bit of a failure because you only made the Rose Bowl. That is a moving target, though, and isn’t the same as my first comparison…the ridiculousness of attacking Sean Miller for not winning one more game just to make it to a marketed round when our baseball team is miraculous for the same level of success in an easier league.

They're having the freshman pitch against us. Their ace will be available against Dalbec in the second game if we win.

Glad to see that. Seems foolish if the ace isn't on short innings. Win it before the pressure mounts. Seems like they are trying to set rotation for the championship series. I agree with it if you otherwise are throwing short rest, because you get 100% in game 2 and maybe an ace in the CS game 1. Otherwise, it seems like flirting with disaster

And winless against non-national seeds. And including the supers, the only victory by an ACC/SEC team vs anybody else was LSU winning one vs Coastal. ACC/SEC is a huge 0-fer from the supers onward.

Coastal Carolina eliminated Texas Tech. So TCU/Coastal Carolina and Arizona/Oklahoma State final 4 with TCU and OSU with the inside track to the finals.

This actually makes some sense. If OSU thinks their ace against Bannister is a toss-up, then they might as well save him and go with their ace against Dalbec if they feel that gives them a big advantage in the second game.

At this point, I'm not sure anybody feels better going against Dalbec than Bannister. Both have been so good lately. Seems like OSU is trying to set up their pitching for the championship, but it could really backfire for them.

Probably an advantage that they have seen Dalbec at least. With Bannister against a frosh, very good chance we force that second game.

I agree, OSU seems a bit cocky about this game. By delaying their #1, should they lose they push him back a day in the championship series if they get that far. If he went today he could have been a game 2 starter at worst.

In 12 Lopes brought Heyer back for the pre round clincher and saved him for a game 3 which we didn't need. Like Wyo said, you got to get there first. Go cats!

Watching the game at work on espn3. No announcers and they are using different camera angles, including the ump camera.

Wish Dalbec would get hot with the bat. He's almost too patient as he takes a lot of fastball strikes and then ends up chasing the off-speed stuff low in the zone.

Hope it's nothing serious for Bannister.

If we we today, I thought we'd throw Ginkel tomorrow, but that ain't happening now. Perhaps Dalbec on what i think would be 4 days rest? Otherwise Ming and a committee? Hopefully it's a problem we have to deal with.
