This board didn't exist last season, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling for this season.
How are the 'Cats looking this year? I haven't been following very closely.

hopefully we outperform our preseason picks. we barely even got any votes and were unranked. last year was hugely disappointing.

Hamlin came in and got the save, striking out five batters in two innings. Right now I would give him the closer job over Troupe.

Katzenfreund wrote:Cats pummel EMU 16-3 in game 2 of the series. Redshirt frosh Robby Medel showed some promising pitching over 7.2 innings, giving up five hits and one run.
The 9th inning saw the debuts of Matthew Troupe, who returned from March 2014 Tommy John surgery, and frosh Handsome Monica behind home plate. With Monica catching like a champ, Troupe's balls loaded up the bases but Coach Lopez didn't let him finish and pulled him after throwing it 21 times. Next guy in line was freshman Kale Morton, whose first appearance on the mount turned out to be a quickie of only six pitches, with two EMU runs blasting through. Finally, Lopez made Monica catch the balls of a third guy in one night. Redshirt freshman Rio Gomez got the job done and the Cats received a break until tomorrow 12:00 p.m. MST.
Scott Kingery and Bobby Dalbec both homered, with Dalbec's rocket flying all the way across center field. Once again, Kingery led the squad with five hits, three runs and three RBIs in six ABs.
After hitting only .288 as a team in the 2014, the Cats showed some improvement in that category, going .488 on 21-43 hits.
Game 3: Sunday, Feb. 15, 12:00 p.m. MST

It will be interesting to see how much Troupe can contribute this year. His problem has always been control issues. I think he would be best used as a long-inning specialist. Pitching will determine how far this team goes. Offense should be just fine.

I wonder how the new balls are affecting the sport nationwide. UCLA, in four games this season, has already matched last year's team home run total and has outscored its opponents 50-13.

Dalbec has some nice power.
Does he still come to the plate to TNT by AC/DC?

Taking 2 of 4 from the #10 team in the country is not too shabby.

Scored two runs without a hit is pretty telling on Rice's behalf. Newman was safe even if the catcher held onto the ball but the ump was going to call him out.

After losing two out of three to Utah two weekends ago, the 'Cats swept a three-game series at Stanford last weekend for the first time in school history.
Talley with a 3-hitter on Sunday.
Sitting at 19-6, 4-2. Hosting 18th ranked Oregon this weekend.

I was worried after the collapse with Utah at home. Nice rebound though in sweeping Furd.
EDIT: just checked and our game is the Friday night game on the PAC channel

Awesome. One good thing going on I suppose. 21-6 and 6-2 in conference. Would be nice to get back to the playoffs this year.

Maybe we have something this year. Lopez really worked those pitchers hard and I mean hard in the off season. He said he was not going you have a repeat of last year and it looks like he won't.
We definitely can hit. I think we lead the nation in batting average

It helps we played one of the weakest non-conference schedules in existence. We don't really play big ooc games anymore to load up on wins. Our rpi the last few years suffered because of it and is probably why we missed the tournament in 2013.

It's nice how team has turned it around since the debacle against Utah. Hopefully Talley's injury is not serious because they can't afford to lose him.

How many programs can boast of having their football, basketball, baseball, and softball teams ranked in the same year?
