2015 softball season thread

The last couple of years has not been up to Arizona softball standards, but this year's team has a good chance to get back to the College World Series. The offense is going to be explosive, led by Chelsea Goodacre and Hallie Wilson. Would not be surprised if Chelsea leads the country in home runs. Kellie Fox, Mo Mercado and Katiyana Mauga will provide power in the line-up.

Pitching has been a disappointment the past 3-4 years but this year the Cats have depth. It will be interesting to see who becomes the #1 pitcher. I believe Nancy Bowling or Michelle Floyd have the best chance to become the ace. Waiting in the wings is freshman Trish Parks. A wild card could be San Diego State transfer Danielle O'Toole. She was the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year last year and I have not found anything if she has to redshirt this year or not. If she is eligible for this season, that just makes this team even better.

Here is the 2015 schedule:

Fox homers and the Cats are up 6-1 after two. I think this could be Candrea's best offensive team, even better than the 2001 team.

Cats go dor the sweep today. Bowling starts and throws one inning and Phillips pitches the second. I wonder why Michelle Floyd has not pitched yet? Anyone know if she is hurt?

Cats beat Wright State 22-1. Even though the competition has not been that great, the pitching is ahead of what it was last year. I knew this offense was going to be really good. Parks is off to a great start.

It would be excellent to return to the national scene in softball. I have always found it to be one of the most entertaining of the "minor" sports, along with soccer. Quite frankly, it is more exciting to watch than baseball, and I am a baseball fan.

Plus, it is really fun to have one last sport to follow into the early "summer" (not seasonally, but by temp and end of school year). I don't think Lopez has a CWS run in the BatCats this year, so Candrea's squad is the team to watch.

Plus, dudes dig the long ball...and we seem to have that covered

Cats lose their first game of the year, falling 5-2 to Kentucky. Trish Parks took the loss. Cats then played #3 Oklahoma and won 5-4 on a Kellie Fox walk-off homer. Michelle Floyd pitched 5.1 innings of shutout ball and got the win. Nice to see the Cats beat former Cat Shelby Pendley.

yeah, that wasn't a good day.

worst loss in school history I think is what I read.

I hate to say this, cause usually I'm the guy who thinks we always have a chance....but....this year, I don't think we have a chance.

I'd imagine we have a good shot at going to some team's hosted Super Regional and losing there. It all depends on who we match up with in the regionals of course.

They are not guaranteed a regional, need to win more series. Next year this team won't be as powerful on the offensive side, but they will have two new starting pitchers who should be an upgrade.

Oh, I wasn't meaning to imply we're going to host a regional, was simply stating that I doubt we'll be hosting a Super, and thus would go on the road and most likely lose to a pretty good team. I think the team has enough to win in a Regional though, and even with sometimes streaky hitting, I'm sure there aren't too many teams out there who would love to see us as their regional opponent.

Kellie Fox had 5 errors in the game and only 4 of the 15 runs were earned. Probably need a sweep this week to have a chance to host a regional.

Hopefully next year Taylor McQuillin and Danielle O'Toole can bring some stability to the pitching staff. I wonder if Floyd will want to stay on the team and who knows if Bowling will be back, she took a leave from the team earlier due to personal reasons.
