Cats are a top-5 team. Guess if the men's program goes on probation, the women will be the team to watrch.

Adia Barnes is going to have so many options in the backcourt. McDonald and Pellington in the backcourt together will be explosive.

So glad Aari made the right decision. :)

Who would have thought Adia would wake up the sleeping giant that is AZ women’s basketball. Who knew the next Sean Elliott would be in a mighty mite package. So exciting. I do hope She realizes all her dreams as coming back is more of a function of the disparity of pay between the men’s and women’s game as anything else. We the fans benefit for sure

Ostensibly yes, but maybe it’s for the best to keep him busy with crossword puzzles or whatever he does to occupy his time.

Officiating

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

First of all, a big congrats to the women. Ranked in the Top Ten themselves, and they pick up a win over a top ten UCLA team, absent our normal home court advantage. I was out and about on Friday night, so I listened to the game on radio on the way home, where I was finally able to catch the last 5 minutes or so on TV. The Arizona radio PbP guy, Derrick Palmer, was extremely outspoken about the officiating, which is a problem in every sport in the Pac-12. He was going nuts about the one-sided calls. I didn't really notice anything egregious once I got home, but if anybody watched the whole game, I'd be curious on what that situation looked like. (Meanwhile, I bumped into a couple of the UCLA gals at the Starbucks on University on Saturday, so I wished them good luck in their game today at ASU.)

Nice Road Win At Colorado

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

The Cats got off to a slow shooting start on the road, and Colorado jumped out to an early lead, before Arizona chipped away at it and eventually took the lead. Colorado was banging and grabbing like mad and kind of banking on the refs assigned to their home court not calling all of it, which was a good guess. Conversely, at a few key moments down the stretch with Arizona clinging to a narrow lead, the Buffalo women got some phantom/gift calls to shoot nice easy free throws to fuel their comeback. Fortunately, it worked out and the gals got out of Boulder with the win. Hopefully they can complete the mountain schools sweep at SLC on Sunday.

They did lose at CU last year - I was there. Aari didn't play and Kate had a horrible game which was later attributed to her diabetes.

Mountain Road Sweep

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

#6 Cats dismantle Utah to complete the sweep and go 6-0. Next up, a Wednesday tussle with Idaho at McKale, followed by the Bay Area schools after the break. I've got to believe the New Year's Day game against #1 Stanford (rematch of our win last year at McKale) will at least be on Pac-12 Network.

Is it March yet? This team gives me the same feeling as some of the men's teams that had a good run in the tournament.
