Lonnie Walker cancelled his Kentucky visit. He'll likely give Nova one more chance to sway him, but right now he's leaning hard toward being a west coast wildcat.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

I read that his family is torn. Some want him to stay close to home while others understand the opportunity of getting away and what Arizona offers from a development standpoint.Bangkok Wildcat wrote:That's very cool....What's the biggest factor in his decision? Looks to me like he finishes everything around the rim with his left, but he shoots jumpers with his right. He might be ambidextrous. Not sure I've seen that before.

I live near Reading, PA, and I actually teach at an Alternative Ed. school in Reading. It is a really crappy city to live in, tons of gang activity and drugs. I really hope, For Walker's sake, that he does leave and gets out of that. Would love for him to be a Wildcat!

Hi - new here. Looks like a nice little Wildcat community, hope y'all don't mind me adding my voice.
Re: Villanova, I was reminded recently that their facilities are out of the 1980s.
Their arena seats 6,500 and looks like a high school gym. Pretty sure their training and practice facilities are lagging as well.
So when we talk about renovations and upgrades to our facilities and how that benefits our recruiting, this is a prime example. Villanova is talking about renovating their arena, but currently Lonnie Walker can choose between this: http://aviewfrommyseat.com/wallpaper/mc ... 185735.jpg" target="_blank
...and this: http://www.pdc.arizona.edu/images/McKale-Slider.jpg" target="_blank
It's nice to have that built-in advantage.

Nova does play a lot of games at the Sixers arena, but even then, there's a big difference between going to the local pro arena and having one sitting in the middle of campus. Between RJ and McKale, Arizona has facilities that match anyone in the nation. Even Kentucky and UNC, we're right there.
It's especially important because we don't sit in a fertile recruiting ground. We need out of state recruits to compete. Miller can sell Arizona as a basketball first community, and everything from facilities to our fan support speaks to that.

FWIW Coach K of Utah was just on media day talking about how excited he is to have an upgraded practice facility, hinting how it would help him recruit.

UK and KU have the leg up these days with their resort style dorms for their players. I imagine we'll have to step up to match at some point. UK started it and KU just matched.

Ive been on the Allen isnt a PG train for over a year now. He needs to play off the ball and be allowed to use his strengths to his advantage.
Kobi isnt ready to play PG yet, and it was pretty clear in the scrimmage. Allen looks like the back up PG by default right now, but Kobi is going to need to share the floor with Allen (like he did in Red-Blue) if he plays any sort of PG role, at least early in the season.

Simplest thing is to have Kobi play in tandem with Kadeem or Alkins, because they're both strong ballhandlers. It's the functional equivalent of training wheels.TucsonClip wrote:We all know about Miller's coach speak, but who else is he going to play at PG?84Cat wrote:

From what I've heard from Miller and the internets, coach hopes the PG spot is PJC and Kobi, with Kadeem as needed as a backup but primarily our SG (also shared with Kobi).

I agree with Miller on Allen needing to play off the ball. However, Kobi isnt ready to play the point. Miller's comments about him playing two positions and his Red-Blue lineup mesh with what Ive seen of Kobi in the scrimmage.YoDeFoe wrote:From what I've heard from Miller and the internets, coach hopes the PG spot is PJC and Kobi, with Kadeem as needed as a backup but primarily our SG (also shared with Kobi).

I watched one of his videos and his release didn't look low, but he has poor mechanics for a guy who wants to be a threat inside and outside. His shot preparation was bad and he takes a ton of time to get it from the shot pocket to release. Can get away with it in high school, but yea.prh wrote:Buddy of mine went. Just read one of his scouting reports which noted his low release and in the pic above the report, his release looks good. Said scouting report notes his mechanics "change by the day" so that would explain all of this. Your buddy was right about his motor, I picked up on that really quick and his scouting report discusses it too. He looks like the star high school player who is playing a quick pickup game at lunch with his friends but doesn't want to exert too much energy because he has a game that night.

I'd mentioned the SI article right before Ayton commited, but that one also talked about him being casual about running. I don't really think that's particularly unusual for a big time prospect. Stanley had Miller get on him for consistent effort. Really physically talented guys can get away with so so effort in HS easily.
I'm still more worried about overseas and eligibility.

If pressed to choose only one, I wonder what most would prefer: Trier is eligible for this entire season or Ayton actually plays at AZ next year?
Re: let's talk '17
Tougher decision w/o McCoy in the fold... but would lean Trier for this season. Bird in the hand. win now, worry about next year, next year.Beachcat97 wrote:If pressed to choose only one, I wonder what most would prefer: Trier is eligible for this entire season or Ayton actually plays at AZ next year?
Re: let's talk '17
Trier now, and not even a tough decision. Next year we will (probably) have Dusan at Center with Chance backing him up/playing the 4. Lee incoming, Smith likely returning, and there is plenty of time left with the 17 class. Focus on the now, you can always adapt later.Beachcat97 wrote:If pressed to choose only one, I wonder what most would prefer: Trier is eligible for this entire season or Ayton actually plays at AZ next year?

I'd take Trier this year over Ayton next year, if we could only have one. And yeah, it's not even close.
Sorta think AT being eligible could be the difference between merely getting to the tourney and perhaps getting to the second weekend.
