Best part if that happening would be:

1) moving to 7-0 in conference
2) improving our seed and RPI
3) Integrating Zo seamlessly
4) having BC disappear from this board

While I so like the first 3 I think #4 provides the greatest value to me at least

Simon was actually suspended...Zo wasn't. That's the difference. Zo was cleared bur waiting for the med to pass through his body...that isn't technically a suspension, as he was cleared of wrongdoing.

They just "want to make sure there is no advantage gained".

Simon was fully suspended. So Zo is allowed to travel with the team and once he is clean, return. Simon was not allowed to travel with the team. He paid his own way to travel to roadies like the UNC game in Springfield, which Lute's pointed to as a sign of leadership.

Zo wasn't traveling originally, remember? I thought the story was UofA appealed due to the circumstances and being so thin and were granted an exception.

What I'm wondering is whether Trier may be more integrated upon return than Simon was.

Isn't it reasonable to expect it'll take a few games for everything to click, now that our roster is complete?

Yeah, I think, to a man, everyone here expects it will take at least a few games, but but more likely more than that. It's a bigger challenge to integrate into a defined system playing against opponents with defined systems in late January.

My attitude. Gonna take time to integrate and coordinate. See: Miles Simon in 1997. Plus, he hasn't faced these new rules on D. Quicker whistles. Homestand against the Washingtons up next. Should be some room for error/adjustment in those games.
The main thing for me is that this game doesn't feel as important anymore. Knowing that the team is going to have a higher ceiling means that a loss isn't a direct measurement between these two teams and Arizona may peak towards the end of the season.

Of course and Triers presence may even take the team a step back in the short term until everyone gets comfortable in their new roles

That's exactly where I'm at and why I'm not nearly as apathetic about this game as I was prior to the Zo news. We could lose by 20 today and I wouldn't care. Cohesion and momentum heading into March is all that matters. We're a final four contender as constructed now.

I don't think Simon practiced with the team, and even if he did, CSM's practices are a lot more organized and reflect real game situations than Lute's were by most accounts.

Yep. We get them at our place, too, and by then, we should be hitting full stride.

A rivalry game is a rivalry game, but Trier's return is far more significant than today's outcome. It's the best news this program has had since the Ayton commitment.

I can't see how he'd play less than 20. He's not out of game shape or returning from injury.

I have a feeling the staff don't have a set time in mind for him. They'll put him in with the first sub and make decisions based on how he plays (defensively more important than offensively). I would think 15 minutes would be the absolute minimum unless he completely blows it defensively. Best case scenario would be 30-33 minutes behind only 1-2 guys.

Miller's big talking point after USC was (parphrased & not using names), once Trier's back - a couple guys are going to be sitting a lot more than they like until he feels they're giving maximum effort throughout the entire game. I expect him to come out guns blazing & play a lot this afternoon.

I think this is a game he naturally flourishes in. Miller wants to slow down UCLA defensively, but wouldn't turn down Trier getting out ahead of a transition defense and driving to the bucket against two defenders.

I didn't catch that comment from SM, but hopefully that has a huge impact on the rest of the team. I hadn't considered that much, that it's easy to letdown in the 2nd half when there's nobody to take your place. Now, everybody better keep the intensity and defense up all game long or you're out (where's that Kevin Parrom get out gif when I need it?)

Play him until he gets tired. He may not fully be in game shape, but he's probably not in bad shape.

I think the primary contribution Trier will bring to todays game will be in Kadeem having the defensive game of his life...

Think about it, lone Senior, he has had to step in and carry the team on his shoulders many times this season and he has done incredible work in that metric, but with an additional/second year-player stepping into the line up Allen will not feel the burden of making those critical shots all alone...he can zero in on defense like never before because a portion of his load will shift comfortably onto Trier...

I suggest Lostmy Balls will have the most frustrating game of his college career today...when Allen is on D and maxed tot he core he can shut down anyone.

With the addition of Trier to your line-up, I am raising the ceiling for this year's Arizona team from Sweet 16 to Elite 8.

You were very clear before that the Sweet 16 ceiling wouldn't budge with a possible Trier change. Now you say this without Trier having played a game. So what changed?

EVCat wrote: Actually, yeah...yeah, I do.

He passes the test. He was clearly one of the best, if not the best, player of his era long before his head started growing. While he may have achieved longevity and balloon stats through use, he was HOF bound regardless. The HOF has no "decent person" clause. PEDs weren't written as illegal in the game for a long time...it was a crime if you obtained them illegally, but that was outside of baseball. And there wasn't a moment in his career when he and maybe one other person (usually Junior) weren't clearly top 2 in the game. His bulk didn't help him become so amazing with the bat in his hands that pitchers started walking him in "never walk" circumstances...his hand/eye coordination was just that good. The PEDs got him what? A few feet? HE is a clear HOF based on everything he did up to and what he did during that wasn't impacted by steroids. And he did not spend but a tiny sliver of his career even in a questionable position related to the rules of baseball.

A lot of the steroid hunt is ridiculous. An amphetamine is much more of a daily PED. Steroids, even HGH, require you to put in the work. They need to be outlawed in sports like football because, well...they hit people. Baseball, they provided a freak show. I am more of an 80's NL baseball fan, and prefer the return to singles and stolen bases and pitching. But the sideshow only hurt the precious baseball stats that a few hold near and dear. None of that is reason enough to keep clearly a top 5 player of his generation out of the HOF. These hypocritical old fools on the sports radio mics who are actually mad they didn't get paid like the young guys talking shit about everyone from the "steroid" era yet these guys were supplied uppers in bowls in clubhouses to make it thorough double headers or just a day game because, rather than cycling and lifting weights, they were out drinking their ass off the night before/entire off season. Ultimate PED...speed...and they point fingers.
.
Take it from someone who played college ball with five different guy (3 were position players) who juiced, we arent just talking a few feet. Looking at the fall and spring seasons, I would estimate steroids added 15-20 to a semi-solidly squared up fly ball. Two of the three (both middle infielders under 5'10) could barely reach the warning track in batting practice and our countless scrimmages, yet in the spring they probably hit a combined 12 HRs in games. All three were all conference and I doubt any of the three would have made it clean. Keep in mind, this was from one 5-week cycle of sustanon. With continued use, stacking, access to the best trainers and other supplements, I can only imagine.

Look at Bonds. How many players at age 35 have not already hit their decline? Not many. How many players hit 35 and have their best seasons, let alone historic seasons. If you take the all time single season leaders in HR per AB, Bonds is in the top 20 five times, all over 35: 36 (1st), 39 (5th), 38 (7th), 37 (8th) 35 (18th). He is only in the top 100 thereafter twice 29 (34th) and 28 (92). Barry Bonds is what happens when one of the best players get steroids. He was hitting homeruns further than before, I remember the average was in the 15-20 foot range from an article years back. Add to the fact that he was doing that at ages when he would have otherwise been loosing power, I would bet you 30-40 feet would not be out of the realm to consider as a total gain.

And no, steroids dont make u hit better per se, but think of the old saying "shorten up with two." With two strikes u shorten up to increase chcance of contact to avoid atriking out. When you shorten your swing and/or dont swing for the fences, you increase chances of contact and squaring up a ball better. So if you know you are getting an extra 30-40 feet from juice, you know you can cut back quite a bit and become a better hitter and still have enough strength to muscle one out. Alternatively, the harder u hit the ball the less time fielders have to make a play + home runs are always a guaranteed hit = higher batting average. Its a huge advantage. It turned one of two best players of his era into a God the game had never seen and did it when he would have struggled to hit 30 HR in that ball park in his twilight.

I disagree with your assessment. Zo has been practicing with the team during practice. It is not an injury where he has to reintegrate. Do I think he will have to shake off some rust? Yes. Maybe a half, maybe a little more. But next week I figure him to be at full strength.
