That's actually not bad. 1.3 points per possession is really good. Less than 1 is bad.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

31 points in 29 possessions is lower than we need to be great, but if you remove that 2 in 8, it's 29 points in 21 possessions, which is great. So it would seem the real issue with their zone was the initial disruption (which I believe coincides with their run to go from 56-55 to 67-57).

The sad thing is a 3-2 zone is pretty simple to attack. We just played it horribly. U flash Lauri high post , if he's got room bury the 15 footer all day. PJC at top if they are sagging move the ball. Have Kobi/ Rawls crash baseline for possible oop if D collapses on Lauri if they hang back u reverse ball until u get Lauri the ball in post. When shot goes up send 3 guys at boards every time. Sometimes 4. W ucla usually 3 tho cuz they will make u pay.

Instead the baseline guys never crashed , just stood there looking for the Bruce Bowen short corner 3 and hesitated and got trapped.

And I agree , if Dusan isn't gonna dominate on boards go have a seat and hope Kobi and wings quickness leads to more boards.

Zone in the West Bracket

Most of the other high seeds in the West use zone, with two exceptions. Hit our threes and we won't have to worry about it.

STRICTLY MAN
St. Marys - "struggled against So.Carolina State's zone". hmm sound familiar?

Maryland - strictly man to man, struggles against zone. Ive seen this before somewhere

SOME ZONE
Gonzaga as we know zoned us in the loss to them where we shot 12% from 3 with Lauri 0-3

FSU - plays zone regularly and are tallest team in NCAAs

West Virginia - plays zone regularly

Norte Dame - plays zone regularly

Xavier - plays zone regularly

VCU - runs a mix, struggles against zone

Bottom line:
Keep up the great 3pt shooting and its hakuna matata all the way to Phoenix

I'll pass this along to Coach. He's lost otherwise.

You should definitely forward that to Miller. I'm sure he would be interested to know that making a high percentage of 3 point shots would assist us just in case he was deciding whether or not to instruct the team to try to make our shots.

In both the semis and the final of the Pac 12 tourney we handled the zone easily, forcing both UCLA and Oregon back into man. I can't say I'm all that worried about the zone anymore, tbh

i know its so obvious right - just hit threes! Thats basically our strategy with zone-phobic Miller. The team has proven inept on how to break a zone if the threes arent falling. No adjustment is made to say, push tempo and beat the other team down the floor (transition, what's that?) its just "do what we do" and #300 in tempo.

Its a shame we we dont' have any athletic guards/wings that can fly down the court

he knows where the elite eight is and that about it. Top 7 classes for 7 years straight and hasn't beaten a top 3 seed since that one time way back in 2011. Not the best Tourney track record

Except that is exactly what we did vs ASu and at Vegas..ran and got into early offense to beat the zone.

Miller's ncaa tournament winning percentage compared to active coaches is only behind K, Calipari, Pitino, Roy, Larry Brown, Izzo, Self and Howland. Who have about 50 final fours between them. I'm not worried.

There was the situational zone at the close of the Butler game. I'm not sure that counts, though, and I'd have to rewatch that final play to make sure that's what stymied our offense.

Otherwise, a zone is a nice white flag against Arizona. It may condemn you to losing, but It limits possessions by eating up clock if you don't have the personnel to defend the paint m2m, so you could lose by less than you would have otherwise. There's victory in there somewhere.

So it was November 25, 2016. In a game without Trier...where Lauri played only 21 mins before fouling out...and where Az led by 5 with under 3 mins to go...

Is this why the zone is supposed to keep me up sleepless?

Also, zone defense is not what worries me about any team...especially uCla
That Xavier zone kept me pretty sleepless last night.

The offense was so ugly down the stretch. Trier, thankfully kept us in it but it was also a curse, as near the end of the game the entire team just hoped he would make some more magic happen. We would've been better off the last 2 minutes just passing it around and let the defense tap their heads each time to burn clock. Instead Trier shoots long Js and contested shots while X made their comeback playing real basketball and fuckin stole one from us.

This one hurts (as most do). The final4 tix I bought almost a year ago on blind faith are close to being put up for sale. This was set up perfectly for us. No Sam Dekker or NJ charge call to blame this year. We choked.
