Obviously I'm a fan of Arizona basketball, so I know the details of this program more intimately than others, but I can't think of a team that has had worse luck the last 10 years...don't even want to go through an exercise of naming all of the nightmare-ish injuries and events that have happened to us, but it just will never fail to shock me with just how unlucky we are.
Arizona is not really cursed at all. Shit just happens especially in sports

Most programs feel they are cursed. I have had UCLA basketball fans tell me they have been cursed since wooden left. USC fans say they are cursed since Carroll left. Dodgers fans say they are cursed. Ducks fans say the same thing. Fuck UCI basketball fans told me they were cursed making the tournament foreve. And yes uci fans exist.

A guy with a bad back fell on his back and got hurt. Happens. Akot left the team early, lattinore did too. We lost in the elite 8 sadly, shit did that under Lute a couple times. Lost in the first round last year badly, yep check under Lute.

I hear the blue devils are short a few fans, maybe you could join them?
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

When was the last time UA lost four straight? 08-09 with our ASU, WSU, UW, Cal losing streak.

We are very short on resources (and talent) without BWill, hope this doesn't prove to be a "once every ten years" trend.

This is just the worst AZ offense I've ever seen. Chase Jeter is the only guy with any fundamental basketball skill. BW is getting there, and he'll eventually be a very good player. But beyond these two, this roster is garbage offensively.

Randolph really had some NBA moves in the OOC season. No idea what happened to him. Not even an average PAC player now.

With the off court shit and injuries, we're going to spiral from a 13-4 team that was going to win the conference and be in the tournament to a like 16-15 dumpster fire that won't even go to the NIT.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

OK. I still love the team for all the little reasons/players warts and all. The totality of the program is another matter. This is a hell of a shake down test. We'll know a shit ton in the end, for better or worse. I'm still in.

Randolph is shooting 31.8% from the field in the Pac 12 season (4-20 from 3 in the last four games). His shot looks flat and the ball rotation is ugly.

Dylan was horrendous tonight.

I personally like Robbins a lot from meeting him and would be disappointed to see him go. He is a great guy in person who understands his role in selling the U of A so much better then the last two idiot presidents we had. I literally disliked both meeting them right away. Now I hate his decision to step in and push for Sumlin to be hired but the guy is a massive sports fan too.

Remember he didn’t hire Heeke

Heeke should never have been hired in the first place as he was in way too over his head. He needs to be canned ASAP

Regarding Miller, I really want to see what he does with this current recruiting class and give him that opportunity to turn things around.

But honestly I am resigned to him getting fired and candidly getting more and more ok with it as maybe a change is just needed.

Who knows but can say this current team is awful now

There's going to be a separation between admin and Miller somehow. One of them has to go, because this relationship is DOA. Either way Arizona fans don't deserve this unending bullshit and need to put this god awful shit behind us. We can go for one more year with Miller, hope for the best, but long term this marriage is broken and a divorce is needed.

Yep. Absolutely. Never seen a worse offense.

This year was going to be like this, with what happened. Do have great class coming in, next year. But with the off-court stuff, who knows what's in store?

Heeke, fire away.

Miller...he has a program with the talent level curtailed by the FBI, has been hit with injuries and got the Phelps news dropped on him the night prior to facing undefeated UW. Short of working miracles, how could anyone do much better?

Robbins, people seem to genuinely like him. He is also facing these problems. I honestly don't know enough about his work to say much else.

These are trying times. With Heeke, I just don't see what the positives are that justify retention.

Re: 2018-2019 Arizona Basketball

Post by RiseAndFire »

Im just shocked shocked that the offense sputtered against that zone. Its almost like we are totally clueless against zones and have been for 10 years. So weird! Miller might want to look into that sometime in the next decade

I'll say this about the team: Miller missed a great opportunity to build them up after ASU. It is not often that our shooters make 50% of their threes like they did. They lost the game but they fought like Wildcats and shot well. This would be a good time to praise them and encourage them. But in his presser he blames Luther's defense and waves the white flag for them declaring they have no business being a tournament team. And he says this after putting Luther in position to fail by matching him up with Cheatham in man the whole game. Luther is not Aaron Gordon the lotto pick, he is Ryan Luther from Pitt and has his limitations.

But this bum will never take responsibility for any poor play, its always the players "effort", not giving "great effort" isn't it?

Cal lost to Yale, St Johns, Temple, St Marys, USF, Seattle and so on and the Cats get them at home on the 21st which used to mean something.

Game will be on FS1 too so that will cut down on viewership.

I love this team for life and will never turn my back completely, but I’m definitely more checked-out at the moment than I have been in 20+ years. I just see so little growth and improvement in this team from week to week. It’s too hard to watch entire games.

But I’m keeping my eyes on the big picture. Next season has to be a fresh start. I’m now wondering if it’s better that Akot left, just in the sense that I want as many new players as possible. I want Jeter and BW back. Maybe Doutrive. The others may need to go.

Let's hope Williams gets healthy along with Jeter before the Pac-12 tournament. If so, they beat asu before the tournament begins and then win four straight to make the NCAA tournament. I always say think positive because if you don't, you will fail. :)

I think this is where Miller’s hope is at. He mentioned the PAC Tournament after the LA trip. Get everyone healthy for that and make a magical run. With it being the PAC it won’t be to magical though, but enough to get a auto bid.
