He was diagnosed with Osteochondritis dissecans while in high school that affects blood flow to the knee causing death of the bone and cartilage in the knee. He had surgery to increase blood flow and seemed to recover pretty well until last season when same knee swelled up again. The recovery time after his first surgery was 10 months. Due to HIPAA and FERPA rules, the UA is not stating what his recent knee issues are. Believe someone posted that they are resting the knee now, and will see if additional surgery is required, which means another 10 month recovery period and at least a medical redshirt year.

And like has been alluded to, BWill make take a medical retirement like Ray Smith, which will convert to an academic scholarship, freeing up an athletic scholarship.

Don't know what his parents feel about it, but if that was my kid I would want only good healthy for him.

I don't disagree he's a good passer and has good defensive capability. I use scoring PG not to say he's a bad passer, but that he's a potent scorer.

Today, I think a scoring PG is better than a traditional PG. I am really hoping he's able to play.

He was working the Sean Miller basketball camp last week as well. So clearly he wants to be here, here's hoping his body is willing.

I certainly don't, but I don't want to get my hopes up since there have been reports of Ray Smith playing ball at McKale.

How do I get to his instagram story? Not an instagram user, but found this https://www.instagram.com/thebwill2/" target="_blank

Here's a new grad transfer offer....

The fact we're adding a back up option at PG isn't likely a coincidence.

I posted the pic in the Brandon Williams thread, link below

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4954&start=200#p390716" target="_blank

As for Williams, it really doesn't matter if Williams is practicing or wants to play, if doctors tell him he has to stop, he'll have to retire.

Yup. Offering people without a scholarship spot to offer is not a great sign for Brandon.

I'm pretty sure Hazzard is our ball handler when Nico rests. You need a back up option to that though obviously.

Yeah if you need a point guard in what amounts to pretty much July pickens are slim. Mark Few beat us to the jump for the UNT guy, so here's where we are. Think of it this way, Barcello wasn't going to get many minutes at all if any this season, and this guy just fills that role. Doutrive returning fills a massive hole and there may be better news on the way in regards to one more addition to this class and the guy's spot he'd be taking wouldn't hurt anybody's feelings.

Totally get it. to lose a two year player like Barcello for a GT is such a sad downgrade. Would rather roll with talent.

Yes. Glad he came to his senses. I've always wanted guys to return rather than get replacements...like even Randolph and Smith--I want them more than a grad transfer, as I cannot remember a grad transfer that anyone was thrilled about. Maybe Hazzard will be the one...

Ultimately this is how I see it, the crux of the rotation will come from this group of players:

Mannion
Hazzard
Green
Doutrive
Gettings
Lee
Nnaji
Jeter

and the last spot in the rotation will go to either Dylan Smith or Puff Johnson if he does indeed reclassify and we land him. This would've been the same whether Barcello was on roster or not quite frankly. Now instead of Barcello this guy will fill that role. Koloko should redshirt, but that'll be TBD I'm sure. Baker and Brown provide great practice bodies.

I was very sad when smith had to retire, but BW feels worse for some reason. Maybe just the present overshadowing the past. Him recommitting to CSM and the program to him having a strong Freshman year and the prospect of teaming up with Mannion and Green in the back court. Just so disheartening for BW.

Smith for Puff sounds cool

So it's looking like

Frontcourt:
1. Jeter
2. Lee
3. Nnaji
4. Gettings
5. Koloko

Wings:
6. Green
7. Smith/Puff

Backcourt:
8. Mannion
9. Hazzard
10. Doutrive
11. Weaver/_____

Sit Out:
12. Baker
13. Brown

Man...losing Bwill is such a huge hit to this year's team. He was likely going to be one of our best 2 or 3 players. The ceiling of the team is just not what I was hoping it would be heading into this off-season because of him. Major bummer. Miller legitimately has the worst luck in the world, even though he is a witch of course.

2 star out of high school.

I trust in Miller, but Weaver's stats are not that impressive although his 3 point shooting and turnovers are OK. Only 38% 2PT last season, 36 3PT%, 63 FT%, 2.2 APG, 1.4 TO on 30 MPG for a 13-18 team.

He took so few 2 point shots it doesn't even matter, literally 85% of his shots come from 3. The guy is a 3 point shooter and a 3 point shooter only and he's only average at that. He can get some steals though, probably because he's small.

Such a bummer. Glad DD is coming back but we are going to be giving more than 25% of available minutes to some pretty big question marks.... DD/Smith/Hazzard. Not exactly a recipe for a FF. Loosing Williams steadiness and talent is a BIG downgrade. DD as a 6th man fits his previous play and makes sure he is accountable.

You and me both, you are literally better off playing 4 on 5 on offense with him on the court. No other player in the Miller Era has ever come close to playing 20 MPG with a sub 9 PER which Dylan has had the last two years. The scariest part of the whole thing is that for some reason Miller is willing to take his offense that results in more fast breaks the other way then points for his good half court defense.

Far be it from me to second guess the oracles that inhabit these here threads, but given the fucking day-to-day roster instability this summer, I'm a little surprised how it's presumed Williams is done *before* a formal announcement has come out.

If Dylan Smith is on the floor in a tight game with the ball in his hands, that’s a problem. That will mean this team is screwed anyways and it’s irrelevant if he hits a game winner to beat a shitty Cal team.

We have a full roster. There is only 1 reason why Miller is looking for a mediocre back up guard to play this season.

I think reaching out to a guard in the transfer portal when we are full and have nowhere else to go for an open roster position, mixed with the rumors and past history, seem to have people expecting the worst.

Amazingly, though...at the end of the day, we have one transfer (Alex Barcello). And that transfer makes total sense, from the usual playing time point of view encountered by most major programs.

I would venture to guess we are actually below the national average, or right at it, with actual transfers. We had a player leave for the pros too early (common issue with major programs). We had a recruit bail because of grades. And we had a lot of open space because of an unprecedented FBI investigation and incorrect media reporting.

Now, if BWill has to leave, that is unfortunate. Awful, really. In that respect...medical issues causing retirement...we would be way out front or behind or however you want to phrase that.

But the actual "players transferring out of this place" indicator that would indicate dissatisfaction with the program? We have had little of that, and the one case that actually made it to the portal (Barcello) is totally understandable.

We have, actually, had an overwhelmingly positive reaction by recruits and transfers wanting to come here.

The instability (short of medical craziness) is directly borne of the last two years. It seems we are stabilizing with a roster of kids who want to be here. I can't think of better indicators that the world is not going to end for Arizona Basketball than the exuberance of high level players to sign on for this coming year and beyond.

We have a full roster. There is only 1 reason why Miller is looking for a mediocre back up guard to play this season.
Why beat around the bush, then? Is Williams just delaying the inevitable? Seems weird that they wouldn't just address this directly. Publicly thank Williams for his contribution to the program and university, express compassion for his misfortune, and wish him the best going forward whether at UofA or wherever he continues school.

LOL

Beachcat wants the program to address something. LOL

Grow up dude. There is zero chance they will say shit, especially in regards to the health of a player.

STFU and stop the drama.

They'll only say something *after* Williams has, which is why I asked if he's delaying the inevitable.

You ask a question that nobody can provide the answer to. Again, STFU

A week ago, Doutrive was officially done at AZ, and there was no reason to expect that to change. Today, Williams is presumed done at AZ, but nothing official. Things that seem finalized and effectively settled sometimes aren't.

Who's the 3rd scorer on this team if Williams is out? Nnaji? Hazzard? Lee isn't necessarily going to light it up offensively, Jeter is reliable and consistent but he isn't a main scoring option. I'm hoping all the positive things I've seen from Nnaji come to fruition, hopefully he can actually shoot from the perimeter and not just win a 3pt shooting contest in an all Star game.

The defense is now weaker (at the perimeter without Williams and 5'10 Hazzard (most likely imo) as the starting two guard and Mannion isn't necessarily. We're lucky Green is here. strong defensively. Adding to my defensive worries is the extended 3pt line, which means hedges and switches will have to extend even further than before, are we going to see Jeter 25ft+ away from the basket - and killed like we saw w/ Ristic/Ayton if our guards can't recover?

We should win with defense, rebounding & outside shooting.

BWill has every right to keep this quiet until he knows exactly what he has to do. I'm guessing he really, really wants to be able to play basketball. His body may have other plans. He deserves as much time as possible to come to a good conclusion about his future (on and off the court)
