So Phelps' lawyer is lying that there were never even any allegations made against his client?

Is that plausible under any circumstance in this case? Explain how.

No, Dave Heeke simply wanted Phelps out because Phelps didn't kiss enough AD ass, and Brent Blaylock still thinks that is reason enough. That Phelps can "just find another job"--a rationale for termination frankly just as boneheaded as Heeke.

Lawyers lie about many things. If they were doing so about this, there would be at least a hint of counter-evidence.

There isn't, and hasn't been. Dave Heeke just thought he could allow departmental politics to supersede due process. And that's dumb. Really dumb.

Its not looking good. Solid case against him:
Sean Miller was taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and booked on murder charges.

No way that's the same Sean Miller, the bail is only 1 mill. That would be the bail for me. Csm bail would be like 40mil
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I hope we’re all clear about how much worse the NC State violations were compared to what a Arizona is implicated in.

NC State coaches spent years directly paying and providing benefits to DSJ’s family to secure his commitment. The associate head coach has alleged in court that the head coach twice handed him envelopes of cash to pay to DSJ’s people.

Direct payments
Ineligible player
Multiple coaches involved
Years of bad behavior
Head coach involved

It’s a bad bad bad scandal. ESPN is predictably... quiet.

Unfortunately, under the new NCAA evidentiary rules all of the evidence/testimony from the trial can be used against the UA.

Lastly, the NCAA now says it will accept information established by other administrative entities. Translation: Whatever comes up in court (or in law enforcement investigations) can be used as fact in NCAA investigations. The enforcement staff was previously required to corroborate information and hope other entities – like, say, the FBI or U.S. Attorney's office – were willing to share information the NCAA could use as source material. Now they likely can use that material, plus information like testimony under oath, not as a genesis of an investigation but rather as elements of the investigation's findings.

ESPN ticker now saying the Auburn to receive a notice of allegations regarding the Basketball scandal.

Well that’s team number two now.... Four to go supposedly. I thought Arizona was a given as the top high profile teams with major violations? I guess we will now have to settle being the third team to be notified now, but with lesser violations. Oh well.

The ticker also shows Arizona, Creighton, Kansas, Louisville, LSU, and USC being schools also involved with the scandal. Thank heavens Arizona comes first on most alphabetical list, otherwise ESPN would look pretty foolish in their reporting.

Even Vegas probably has odds of Arizona being last of that group to receive next notice of allegations.

That presumes that because it was used as evidence, it establishes a fact. Evidence and fact are not interchangeable terms.

Why would ANY school sanction itself over the actions of one rogue coach?

Should the basketball program have stripped itself of schollies for two years because Ben Lindsey got drunk a lot and cheated on his wife, while basically going all Mackovic on the program for a year?

The program is not the problem here. Book was. So why should innocent players and coaches voluntarily take the brunt of punishment?

Sorry, but zero sense made there.

Also, does anyone listen to Vitale anymore? I mean isn't he in his 80's at this point? Dude needs to stay in Florida and just go to Rays games.

Was just having lunch with an older gentleman in the Bay - Cal alum, Arizona fan, well heeled and well connected - who balked at me saying Miller is fine.

“I know AG’s dad - Miller is audacious and aggressive.”

We got into the nitty gritty of the current allegations and he acknowledged they might not bear fruit (for the anti-Zona cops). But his point was “goddamn, y’all go hard and it’s not surprising you’re getting slapped.”

Not especially revelatory but maybe insightful. He had Pasternak’s cell and personal email and acknowledged that he envies, as a Cal fan, our ability to maneuver.

Isn't that just how you win in recruiting? In the FBI wires, one of the overarching themes is that the best recruiters are also the most aggressive.

If the game is the same, the winners are just the ones who do it well. Michael Jordan was an audacious, aggresssive basketball player.

EXACTLY...no NCAA violations in working your ass off to get recruits...it will definitely piss off people like "Tad is a Boil on Pac 12's ass" because they refuse to put in the work and then bitch that others are cheating...

Everyone seems out to get Miller...but he raises the intensity of the entire game, isn't that what we want?

Mark Few is the absolute exception, but he knows his limits and recruits foreign players and transfers, but I bet he works hard in THAT metric...

The good coaches are relentless, the bad ones are whiners.

All the blue bloods are aggressive, hard-working recruiters. The unspoken subtext of that comment against Miller is that he "doesn't play the game" the way the other media darlings do.

He will never charm ESPN. He will never bow down and kiss the ass of Vitale or his cognoscenti. And he makes no apologies for it.

My kind of coach.

Even Coach K realizes he has to work to get top recruits in the current environment.

Add to that the fact that you can’t sell Arizona targets on being on national TV all the time, or playing at an hour when anyone west of Denver can stay up to watch, or playing in the tourney a couple of hours or less from campus, or playing in a conference that gives a shit about anything besides how shiny their offices are, and it’s no wonder CSM has to kick down doors to put together top teams.

If only our football staff came to the same realization...

I wonder if the NCAA is picking on the smaller schools now, so when it comes to penalizing the big schools, they will come down harder on them?

Re: Bribery Scandal - FBI Probe - Book Richardson Involved

What DePaul did was worse per the NCAA guidelines and regulations than what Arizona did. I have thought for a while probation would be the punishment.

Here is what we know dispite the lies from many in the media

Ayton cleared twice
FBI found no wrong doing with Miller Ayton or Alkins
Pasternak never offered Bowen money to come to UA. Bowen Sr was told by Dawkins Pasternak was offering money, but when this was happening Pasternak was already gone from UA I believe
Dawkins and Richardson were liars and have been proven to be. We have know this well before on Richardson before September 2017
Dawkins and Richardson only worked with each other for a few months during a summer
There is no clear NCAA violation for directing kids to a certain agency or adviser post playing days
Lack of institutional control will be hard to punish UA for harshly as there was no proof Miller knew any of this, Miller had plans in place of what to do when issues arise, and no clear ncaa violations occurred unlike UCONN, NC State and DePaul
Mark Phelps had nothing to do with this and ESPN lied about that yet again
