OK then for Oregon or Washington. Both should be top 10 by then

Stanford looked really good against OU last night. They whipped them wire to wire.

Did you watch USC lose at home to Temple? They look to me exactly like they have looked every year under Enfield.

Oklahoma is a barometer of good?

They were picked to finish 8th in the Big 12, which only has 10 teams

Stanford got off to a 17-2 lead and never led by fewer than double digits. I'm not saying OU is a powerhouse, but Stanford nailed them.

FWIW, Stanford was picked to finish 10th in the pac 12.

Ultimately it might not mean much, but so far the conference hasn't embarrassed itself like it has in the past several years, not even close as a matter of fact.

Seems like the Pac is due for some good years...in football as well as hoops. I get the feeling we're seeing the start of that this year in both sports. We shall see

Oregon just stole victory from Seton Halls firm grasp...were down 19 at one point...speaking of points...Pritchard is good...he's sorta the Altman version of TJ ...lot of grit and savvy with a bunch of barely competent parts around him, I don't like him (and Oregon as a whole is still one of the dirtiest teams in sports, at one point the bench tried to trip the PG for Seton Hall as he ran by)...but you have to respect his determination and the fact that he is experienced and does not really panic like a typical Pac team...

Other than UCLA and one of the lower teams the Pac has not been typical post apocalyptic shabby this year.

I think his ability to beat people off the bounce is understated. He simply is smart enough to realize he would be going into “charge” country in college as well as challenging shot blockers protecting the rim. If I was a GM I would have no hesitation drafting him if I needed a PG

Mike Schmitz did a good job breaking down Nico’s game as well (a better job, I think).

The one note that he shared with Nico that I thought was most insightful and important was that Nico has been reluctant so far to take one more step when driving to the rim and finishing closer to the rim. I think it’s likely that Nico is making a calculation that he doesn’t want to get stuffed at the rim and would prefer the easy floater, but on film you can see that he’s undervaluing his ability to get to the rim (he’s either got the bucket or the foul). Likely just an adjustment that he’s making to the college game - you can see Nico developing game by game (getting more comfortable).

If we see more of Nico getting at the rim rather than settling for the floater (which is of course a very nice floater) I think the “limited athleticism” tag would fall off. The video evidence of him getting beat by his man on dribble drives is something he needs to work on, though I understand the desire to stay out of foul trouble and let the big man come in to protect the rim behind him.

Yeah, thought that was a great point as well. Lot of young guys struggle at the rim because they take off too early, too late, or don't know how to utilize their body to absorb contact to throw the defender off timing and then separate with a burst on their last step.

At the end of the Florida game Lyons got the mismatch and took advantage. He may have had the balls, but Nico took on the entire defense and kissed a running hook shot off the upper corner of the backboard, finding a Newtonian angle not predicted by analytical geometry.

I will say this. He never seemed to get that freshman "scared" look about him. You know the one freshmen can get when they have their worst game ever. Not nico though, just kept firing away no matter how badly he bricked every single shot from near or far.

That was some serious high volume shooting. Didn't get to the line, and he shot 15%. If a point guard shoots the ball 20 times, do we even realize how many points he should tally?

When it comes down to it, it's mid-December and maybe Nico Mannion doesn't suck as bad as I say he does. Maybe his teammates will learn how to help and recover through an entire defensive possession. It's actually more likely than not.

He never got to the line. That’s a pretty good indicator of his shot selection for the night. But that missed open layup toward the end was good except for the part about the missed open layup.

Honestly, if we’re looking for a pair of Arizona point guards past this Christmas season, Nico so far looks part Shakur, part PJC. Shockingly overhyped, IQ-deficient, glowing in isolated games and helpless in others. There’s no way this continues, but maybe it does. Defending his 15% on high volume shooting involves a level of Yorkesquefanapologism I never cultivated.

I accepted Mannion's poor shooting vs Baylor due to the effects of injury and missed practice.

I just do not understand last night's disaster. two horrible shooting performances against the only two ranked opponents cannot just be a coincidence. Was it a case of the "yips"??

I don't think the defense explains it at all - most of the missed shots that he has routinely been making all season. Many of them were bad misses (offline, etc.), not what one sees from an excellent shooter on a cold nite....

I think his game suffered in the second half largely because the defense was not respecting his shooting, and defending the pass primarily... He began pressing early in the second half, and his effectiveness significantly declined as a result....

Yes, he's a frosh, but his AAU career involved many games against supposed top competition.

So far, his college "career" is defined by these two games, and the conference season will be trying to dig out of, or further into, a "hole"....

I guess we live, and die, on the one-and-done roller coaster....

Arenas had pretty horrific games against Wisky and Duke in the tournament, but I don't think was quite that bad.

Dickerson and Bibby against Utah were close.

JG definitely shot us out of games his senior year.
