The multi-year agreement makes Jockey the exclusive apparel partner for the Pac-12 broadcast team and analysts,
I wonder what Bill Walton is going to say about that. No more tie die shirts?

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
That should help get us top notch recruits with all the camps and tourney's they run. This just set the conference back 5 years. Hopefully it can be overturned. What a f'n joke.

Isn’t he a lame duck president with no authority to make major decisions anymore until he is out?
Better question - Can’t we just fire him now and escort him off the premises?

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
Maybe I'm being naive, but this just means Jockey will have some "brought to you by" plugs and commercials during Pac-12 tourneys and the broadcasters will wear Jockey shirts right? It's not like schools in the conference have to do anything with Jockey, at least as opposed to their own sponsors.
Strange given the timing (and the brand), but I'm not seeing how this is detrimental, at least without knowing our other options, unless Nike says "F the P12" because of it. Who was the Pac 12 apparel sponsor previously?

Not like anyone watches or can get the Pac-12 channel outside of some diehard fans.
Which means I just canceled Sling TV this morning since my watching season is over.

Wait, no red and blue undies?
Re: F*ck Larry Scott
Can someone define what this actually means? Is it a simple sponsorship of the PAC-12 network or what? I know Jockey has been trying to break into athletic wear also. If it is athletic wear then the Pac's goose is cooked.

Hey Larry, why not Fruit of the Loom or Victoria's Secret? Maybe Lululemon Athletica wants to get into the act.

Does this change when the announcers are back on the court?
I mean everyone runs around in their undies on zoom calls, but bill walton sporting a pair of boxer briefs at the announcers table might get pac 12 games even fewer eyeballs, if that's even possible.
Gonna have to make sure that table has a skirt in front of it!!

It won’t affect what teams and coaches wear. Just Pac-12 Network and Conference personnel.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
To me it's an optics problem. We are an athletic conference with an apparel contract with a non-athletic brand. And not only are they an non-athletic brand, they're known for basic crappy underwear that your grandfather used to wear. Their biggest innovation in the last 50 years was introducing color to what were just tighty-whities and finally getting into boxers.
Larry might as well have inked a deal with Wonder Bread to be the exclusive food provider to the conference.

Let those mouth breathing conferences like the SEC, ACC, Big12, and B1G worry about silly pursuits like winning football and basketball championships and generating millions in revenue for their member schools.

Are either of those good choices? I mean anyone is better than Larry Scott, but I'm hoping for more than just better.

So the candidates are from Cal, with the worst stadium deal in the history of recorded man, and WSU, who has by far the worst facilities in the PAC, and today would not even be allowed in the PAC?

Heeke’s wife seems like a nice lady, but I saw her sneeze multiple times at a men’s baseball game a couple of years ago. Pretty sure she’s allergic to Tucson.

Oliver Luck would be an incredible upgrade over Larry Scott. I appreciate that Nevarez has the nuts and bolts background in the conference but Luck is clearly the kind of leader we need.

When asked how the conference chain of command would work for campus-specific issues (i.e., would the liaison have final authority, or the commissioner), one source said: “I have no idea how it would work.”
Always an encouraging sign.

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
God. A real commissioner can hire whoever he/she wants as an expert in media deals. But the chain of command still has one person at the top of the org chart. I really hope this is just leverage in negotiations with Luck. I dunno, I guess I'm stupid, but it seems pretty basic to start a search with the #2 person at the best couple of conferences and maybe a handful of the very best ADs. Or you can hire a search firm you can blame if it doesn't work out. The problem, as always, is with the presidents. They want to have their cake and eat it, too. And they can't punch their way out of a wet paper bag.
Re: F*ck Larry Scott
Sounds like the UA president got involved...
But seriously, it sounds like all of the Pac-12 presidents are incompetent when it comes to sports. Seems like more of the we are going to do it different and fail again model. I pretty much expect that the hire will be terrible. At least this way I can never be truly disappointed.

Re: F*ck Larry Scott
I am half joking when I say this, but, screw the PAC12. Defect and join the BIG12. I just don't see the PAC12 making a rational decision on who the commissioner should be. It's seems like a grander version of the Robbins and Heeke show right now.
Edit/Update...
I had never looked at the broadcast deals that the BIG12 has in place until now. They seem to have it together as far as how they structure the conference coverage and payout. Allowing the schools to monetize the media rights for some of their events without having to split the pot amongst the other schools is the way the PAC12 should have been all along. The BIG12 is the only conference doing this too. Some of there member schools are killing it as far as revenue goes. This seems like a no-brainer to me.

I think that you have all forgotten who is making these decisions, these are the highest minded, most educated people the left coast has to offer. There is no end to the level of innovation, forward thought, and collaboration that they are capable of.
Money you say?

I would say hiring Scott was a little out of the box. Keeping control of the Pac12 networks instead of partnering with an ESPN/FOX was outside the box. I guess I just see it the other way from you, maybe we need some more inside the box thinking here.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 4:38 pmDunno, this one sort of reeks like we're thinking outside the box because inside the box options have failed.DrWildcat wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 10:44 am Sounds like the UA president got involved...
