I do not think we want him back from what I have heard, he is not at the same level and the scholarship would be better used somewhere else.Merkin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:25 pm Sure beats Pastner and Damon, along with no chance JeT and Miles.

Now we should know pretty soon who is transferring and who isn't
Re: Tommy Lloyd
My expectations for Basketball are to
1. Win the pac12 season title.
2. Be decent in the pac12 tourney.
3. Make the NCAA tournament.
4. Make it to the sweet 16.
Everything else is gravy.
Goals:
1. Go undefeated at home.
2. Best ASU both times.
If you make a FF or win an NC, great. If not, that's okay for me, assuming your consistently doing 1-4 above.
I guess now I have to add a 5th. Don't get us banned from postseason play due to an FBI investigation.
So it's a pretty fair bar for a program of our tradition.
My goals for football
1. Best ASU.
2. Don't get us banned from post-season play.
That's all. I don't care if we go 1-11. I really don't. Just beat ASU. That's all that matters. Stoops always said "it's just like any other game" like he was the Zen master. Like we were a national title contender and ASU was a blip on our radar. In football that's all we have. It may be small thinking, but it's what it is.
Anywho, if anyone has contact with this guy, you can let him know the expectations. And let the football coach know too. Thanks.

I just hope the kids give Lloyd the chance to re-recruit them.

Well then shut the door! Lloyd can start recruiting Akinjo back for one then.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
Do we have any info or guesses on what this means for the current roster? Do we know that any of the players have relationships with LLoyd? Perhaps they are so annoyed about how the firing of Miller was handled that they will leave anyway.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
What are we going to call him? CTL doesn't sound near as good as CSM.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
I would think all the players will give him a chance to at least share his vision and and a lot will depend on the assistants. If they were so pissed about Miller being fired they would have transferred already.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
I don't. Robbins screwed Miller and the players by lying and saying Sean Miller is our coach.
They deserve to do whatever they want. F*** Robbins, I won't bear any player ill will for leaving. He already hosed them on a month plus of potential movement time if they wanted to.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
Just saw it on Sports Center and ran here to check since I know ESPN is full of shit.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
ACL. Assistant Coach Lloyd.
If he goes on to do great things, he can credit Agent Zero with the motivation.
Readers will remember Hibachi took the 00 jersey because people said that's how many minutes he'd get in the NBA. Then lit it up. Then called Lloyd uncredentialed.
So it would be nice to see it come full circle when Lloyd gets into the HoF after taking Arizona to 10 NCs in a row.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
Risky hire. Remember when UCLA hired an assistant with no head coaching experience? See Lavin, Steve. How did that turn out again?
Still, if Lloyd can recruit top Euros to Spokane, WA, he can get those kids to come to Tucson, AZ. No offense, but Spokane, especially in the winter, is not a place I'd choose to live in.
I also like the offensive sets Gonzaga runs. Up-tempo with a lot of pro-style movement. If I'm Akinjo, and I'm not guaranteed to be drafted in the first round, coming back to Arizona and running Gonzaga's sets are an attractive option. Especially if we can convince Tubelis, Mathurin, and Keriisa to come back as well.

At least we'll play at a faster pace.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
Yep, finally.
Really curious to know if he was their guy all along why did we have all of this extra drama? Did he have second thoughts? Or did dumb and dumber try a last ditch effort for Muss and it pissed Lloyd off so much they had to court him again.

Pre-2019, Arizona and Gonzaga's offensive rankings are startlingly similar in adjO. Like separated by 2-3 spots every year type similar. For what that's worth, I guess.
Re: Tommy Lloyd
I am intrigued. I am also still upset about Miller being fired, and wonder how much more we had to pay to walk Lloyd back from the ledge, but at least I see potential in this hire, something sorely missing from the line that seemed to form behind him.
If he is as successful as Miller, I'll be thrilled. If he exceeds that, well...I'll be even more thrilled to be wrong.

Finally!!!!
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

And if he sucks, then we can fire him in 3 years and not feel bad, then hire Damon after he gets pacific into the tourney!!
Not what I'm hoping for. Just saying, easier this way.

Miller's team are almost always efficient, but slower tempo obviously (Adj-T)Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:46 pmOut of interest, I looked back on KenPom.RondaeShimmy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 3:41 pm At least we'll play at a faster pace.

Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
Not my 1st choice but happy with the hire.
Would have preferred to break the bank and pursue Musselman or Pope as a backup.
With Lloyd we will see a pro-style spread offense with screens and hard cuts........which the players should like.
Should be a program that seeks to develop players instead of being a pit stop.......fewer OAD's
Good international recruiter
Familiar with the West Coast and PAC12
Defense will be a question.
How Lloyd handles sitting in the Captains chair will be a bigger question
Welcome aboard coach

Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
So, we'll have less talented recruits? I'm not convinced the place exists any more where you can develop talent and still have high level talent.
Also, you have to be careful not to develop talent too well (Nnaji, Lauri, Mathurin). If you develop them too well, they leave.
I mean, Gonzaga's had their fair share of OAD's. Holmgren, Suggs, Clarke, Collins, etc. Transfers as well.
Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
So on the one hand Lloyd and Few built Gonzaga together. On the other hand, this is basically hiring Gonzaga's Rosborough. We could have hired Arizona's Rosborough and we didn't. So, here's hoping this guy is able to handle the helm.

Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
Rosborough was not a recruiter. Lloyd is. He was considered one of the best assistant coaches in the country if not the best. It will be interesting to see how he turns out. Of all the applicants for the coaching position, I believe he was the best choice.

4 Sweet 16s and an and additional Elite 8?
There is no downside to entering the portal this season. It's a free year.

Re: Tommy Lloyd
Lavin got to the S16 or better in 5 of his 7 seasons at UCLA. So I'd say it turned out better than some people remember. He also recruited like a mutha. Got Baron and Watson and Kapono and a bunch of other future pros.

Our focus should now turn to getting rid of Heeke and Robbins. Regardless of how this turns out it has been a real shit show. I hope Coach Lloyd is wildly successful and will always follow my Cats but absolutely no financial support till these clowns are in our rearview mirror with the car in reverse. Good Luck coach.

Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
To field (court?) a competitive team next season, we really need Mathurin, Akinjo, Kriisa, Tubelis, J Brown and Koloko at a minimum. The more we subtract from that group, the further we'll fall in the standings. Granted, I have no idea which recruits/transfers Lloyd is about to pull out of his hat, but it's awfully late in the recruiting cycle.

I could support and wish Lloyd good luck when Robbins and Heeke are gone. Before that, he's (fairly or unfairly) a puppet.TheCat wrote: ↑Wed Apr 14, 2021 4:22 pm Our focus should now turn to getting rid of Heeke and Robbins. If/when Robbins/Heeke leave, it will still suck how Miller got done, but it won't be on Lloyd. Before they're out, every bit of support that goes to Lloyd benefits Robbins/Heeke.

Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
I have never before been less enthused about UA's two major sports. Two coaches without a single win as a head coach. And, just for the shitty way that Sean Miller was treated, I hope both of Robbins's hand picked coaches fail miserably. Then maybe UA can start anew with a new prez and new AD who will be able to build us back better.
Re: Arizona Head Coach Tommy Lloyd
Out of the realistic candidates, Lloyd seemed like the best option. Yes, there is some unknown but I’m hopeful.
