I don’t see why we would. We are already one over the scholarship limit. Would probably be a grad transfer big, just in case Tubelis leaves. We would need depth in the front court.

I don’t know honestly. Will be an interesting offseason, albeit not as interesting as the last.

Is Ira still thinking of leaving? Don't think he will ever be a starter at Arizona.
The lesser Tubelis is the obvious choice if everyone returns, give him an PWO spot, assuming the greater Tubelis is OK with it. Of course out of state tuition is quite expensive, not sure how wealthy the parents are.

Maybe little tubelis is really smart and qualifies for academic scholarships?
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Once you are recruited as an athlete, you cannot receive an academic scholarship unless you medically retire. Not sure if you quit team what happens, but obviously your UA basketball playing days are over.U.P. I think the football program has a few scholies left. You can get a football scholarship and play on the basketball team, like Ortege Jenkins and Peter Hansen did. Put him on the football scout team! That will toughen him up.

I hope we get him and he stays 2022. Mainly, I'd like Koloko, Tubelis and Brown next year. I doubt Tubelis stays, so we just slide Boayke in for Tubelis in 2022.
I'm not sure the minutes will be there next year if we get those 3 back, because Boayke is a legit big dude who I'm not sure will be ready to play alongside another C out of the gate.

Why would any recruit reclassify to 2021? One ball, 200 minutes, and every player this season can come back next season, with all the new players coming in.

Also, he turns 18 in March. He's not super young for a '21 prospect and if he stays in '22, he'd be 19 and 1/2 by the time he enrolls.
So, it's not like he'd be that out of line age wise.

Arizona is literally incapable of recruiting the 2022 class at the moment. If you want to land him it’d have to be 2021.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 3:46 pmI hope we get him and he stays 2022. Mainly, I'd like Koloko, Tubelis and Brown next year. Not that we had a shot even bringing in Lloyd, but Chet Holmgren to Gonzaga.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: let's talk '21
I never understood anyone who thought that was possible. We were never in the running to begin with, so unless it was mostly Lloyd, we never had a chance.
With a prospect like Holmgren, I never believed it was just one assistant. That kind of prospect, it's all hands on deck. Also, I don't know why a hard OAD would come to Arizona with the current roster instability.

Because landing a hard OAD creates roster stability. Talent attracts talent. Things are starting to stabilize though a bit regardless (although not done).Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:18 amI never understood anyone who thought that was possible. Like you said though this that wasn't a Lloyd-solo recruitment, that was an all hands on deck approach. With that said there are numerous hard OAD recruitments where one assistant was absolutely key to the point the player would follow that assistant to the moon if that's where he went.

I'm talking from Holmgren's perspective. Why decommit from a stable Gonzaga program where he'll have a featured role to continue his presumptive #1 draft status to go to a program that's still putting a roster together?ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:39 amBecause landing a hard OAD creates roster stability. I completely understand why Arizona would want him, but not vice versa. He's clearly in this for one year and Gonzaga just sets up as a simpler, safer choice for his future.

I mean he barely committed today, so if Lloyd was that important to his recruitment, he probably doesn't commit today. I don't disagree with the rest, although my primary argument had to do with this statement by you: "Also, I don't know why a hard OAD would come to Arizona with the current roster instability."Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:45 amI'm talking from Holmgren's perspective. All I meant by that statement is Gonzaga sets up as a stable roster with a stable role for Holmgren. He's pretty well guaranteed to be a #1 pick going there.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 10:51 amI mean he barely committed today, so if Lloyd was that important to his recruitment, he probably doesn't commit today. He'd probably still be a #1 pick at Arizona, but I would think he'd have to wonder if the stability and role will hold. Right now, he doesn't fully know which guards will feed him the ball, or which bigs he'd play with.
If you're looking to be OAD, I'd think a stable situation where you know you'll be set up for the draft position you want is preferable.

Tyty in the top 15
Re: let's talk '21
So right now best case scenario is we likely lose Akinjo. But possibly keep Benn, Terry, Koloko, Kerr, Tubelis? Add Tyty (best case). And another transfer. We could actually still be good.

Curious who the other transfer is though. Assuming a pg or combo guard that will come off the bench to relieve Tyty or Kerr

You don't get that kind of one on one anywhere else. It's really humanizing to talk about your illegal payments with your coach and not some Nike or Adidas suit you've never heard of.

That would be something all right....The guy was absolutely awful for Kansas. There is the chance he turns it around like Quinton Grimes but all his stats are worse than Grimes. He had the lowest ORtg and the highest DRtg on the entire Kansas roster.

Re: let's talk '21
The running thought is that he'll head "home" to Oklahoma - either Tulsa, OSU, or OU - very tight with his family. Never offered by Arizona or Gonzaga, hasn't visited Arizona.
Would love to have him... the poor season at KU doesn't much scare me. Kid injured his back early in the season and then broke his finger his first game back - missed a third of his games in total. I think that combined with COVID and not having his normal safety net took it out of him.
6'5" CG who scored 25ppg and shot 47% from three in his final AAU season, former McD's AA and a top 20 recruit.

247 changed him to 2021 based on the thought he's reclassifying. He needs a lot of physical development either way, and I don't see an advantage for him reclassing to 2021 because he needs a year of weights and development no matter what. Maybe he wants to get that tear in college?
He hasn't actually reclassified, though and he's normally 2022.

Re: let's talk '21
He's supposedly going to graduate high school in China this semester so realistically he could be this class. I think he should wait and try to bulk up a bit but if wants to come to Tucson by all means come on down. Fanbo is a guy who will be an NBA player at some point in his career, don't know if he's OAD type talent but he will find a way to the association eventually. Him and Azuolas in the front court would be insane. We'd have some crazy athleticism and speed for big men, plus both can shoot. That'd be exciting

Let's keep loading up on big men as the game moves more and more to the perimeter. At some point you have to pass on the talent based on fit, right? I guess if he is 2022 it makes much more sense with Brown likely gone and Azuolas as well possibly.

I don't see him as physically ready to be a college contributor at this point. He has an good skill set, but not the crazy length or athleticism he'd need to offset his lack of strength.
I'd figure Azuolas is gone before he's ready physically to contribute. If he reclassified, I might not think he's a rotation guy until his junior year. He's a good shooter, but I don't see the rest translating until he matures physically.

Going to be interesting to see the Zags philosophy play out in a P5 conference where the teams and coaches know your players tendencies so well.
If we can be very efficient in both ends I guess it won’t matter but 8 straight weeks of generally top notch talent and preparation has to be different than what the WCC provided
