Yeah this isn't looking good. Big swing and a miss on both Washington and Kaluma. Completely different reasons but this has been a rough couple days
I said what I said and I mean it.
Re: let's talk '21
I know Creighton is on the upswing but it feels pretty weird to lose someone to Creighton. I mean fucking Creighton? Really?

I'm not one to overreact but I'm officially worried about the recruiting ability of this staff.

His girlfriend is a Tucson native. She will be going to school 4 hours away at Mizzou. She could visit Tucson as often as they’ll probably be able to see each other in the cornfields.RondaeShimmy wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 1:28 pmFucking wizard

Don't know if it's true, but I heard his girlfriend goes to Creighton.

At least we were only recruiting both kids for about 5 weeks only. Imagine if we'd had waited all year.
Re: let's talk '21
So will JB be back?
Re: let's talk '21
I think this fan base took for granted just how hard Miller worked in recruiting.

You can't lose recruits to racists. You just can't.
Not a good look at all.

Thinking the same thing.... and betting CTL is realizing that reality right about now too. This sucks- time for intense-sleep at the office- effort. (And I’ll really worry if I hear its already at that level and we still keep losing....)

What sucks is that international kids don't help in landing the American kids.

this one definitely hurts but I really think we need to stay patient here and see how this off-season finishes. at the end of the day, it’s clear to me that this is a developmentally focused staff that doesn’t necessarily need to bring in top top tier talent to win games.

Thinking back to the early Miller days, it's nice to get back to this honeymoon-can't-lose-everything-going-our-way momentum.

Re: let's talk '21
We all knew the uncomfortable question was: Who wants their player/kid to go play for a head coach they've never heard of with no head coaching experience?
The next uncomfortable question is: How does this unknown head coach build a name and reputation without recruits?
But I do think this is a great experiment for a storied program to take on.

Re: let's talk '21
Tommy Lloyd hasn't coached a game yet and already fans are disappointed. How about wait and see what he does with the players he has and see if there is improvement. One of my knocks on Sean Miller is the teams overall never seem to improve at the pace they should over a season. You might see some players improve, but the team, as a whole, not so much. Also, recruiting season isn't over. I have faith that the Cats will find a viable PG. Patience is the key at this time.

We’ll land some guys who will fill the holes, but of course neither will be remotely as good as Tyty or Kaluma.

Lloyd showed that he could successfully recruit prospects to play for Mrk Few. So far he hasn't shown - at all - that he can recruit prospect to play for Tommy Lloyd. Any smart prospect really should see if Lloyd can be even a moderately successful head coach before committing to play for him. JMO

Neither? So 2 players lined up?ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 3:47 pm We’ll land some guys who will fill the holes, but of course neither will be remotely as good as Tyty or Kaluma.
Hopefully they are JC or grad transfers so they won't be around for 4-5 years sitting on the end of the bench when Lloyd can pull in elite recruits, although 4 year glue guys are always useful.

So no bump from his hall of fame induction? Bummer...
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: let's talk '21
This seems totally fair to me right now, and honestly Lloyd probably needs a season of actually being the top guy for him to have the right mojo to recruit well.BBQ wildcat wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 3:52 pmRationalize much?goslingswagg wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 1:52 pm this one definitely hurts but I really think we need to stay patient here and see how this off-season finishes. at the end of the day, it’s clear to me that this is a developmentally focused staff that doesn’t necessarily need to bring in top top tier talent to win games.

Tommy seems like a good dude and we know he's had success recruiting, but he's not a big dog yet. The recruiting pitch that he spoke about during his interview with Brian Jeffries made my stomach drop when I heard it: "Coming to the University of Arizona is an opportunity of a lifetime, it's an opportunity of a lifetime for me and its an opportunity of a lifetime for them, and I think if we do it together and kind of wrap our heads around it and our arms around it and make a hard push I think great things can happen for the program and the individual."
That is not "WE ARE ARIZONA" that is "by golly I sure hope this works, wanna try with me?"

Well we just lost out on two starting caliber players in as many weeks and now we're sitting at 10 scholarship players with no identified prospects left on the board.azgreg wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 7:22 pmNo shit. The sky isn’t falling, it’s this season’s ceiling that just came crashing down.

Re: let's talk '21
Yeah, it is like a 5 hour drive; 3 hours to Kansas City, and another 2 to Mizzou. Creighton has had some success lately, but it is hardly a premier program. That said, AZ only jumped into the recruiting process for Kaluma for 5 weeks, give or take, so it isn't a devastating recruiting loss in that sense (AZ got in the game really late). Still, it is AZ basketball, and the optics aren't good that a kid chooses an inferior program. Ideally, Lloyd would have reeled in one of these late-period recruits for some momentum.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 1:36 pmShe’s a Tucson native. Re: let's talk '21
This. I hear the call for patience, and how we should appreciate a new coach who convinces a number of existing players to stay. But there's a context here. This isn't about what Lloyd can do given the challenges of taking over. It's about an administrator who fired a coach without cause... a coach who was developing a team with exciting potential in spite of said administrator's yanking the postseason, so that said administrator could bring in "his guy." This is the context for impatience. It's not another "sky is falling" moment after a disappointing regular season loss. It's about throwing away what was, and for what? So that we can exercise patience?YoDeFoe wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 7:26 pmWell we just lost out on two starting caliber players in as many weeks and now we're sitting at 10 scholarship players with no identified prospects left on the board.azgreg wrote: ↑Sun May 16, 2021 7:22 pmNo shit. The sky isn’t falling, it’s this season’s ceiling that just came crashing down.
And let me know if anybody else here feels this - and don't get me started on football - but the worst part for me is how this outsider comes in, fires our basketball coach in connection with nothing tangible whatsoever, and then he literally tells us to "Bear Down." Is there anybody hear who feels like this is a little much?
