Just give the last 2 to long term walk-ons. Scholies are only year to year.

okay fairgronk4heisman wrote: ↑Thu Jul 01, 2021 4:49 pmSounds like a unintended postseason ban as well, but I am not that high on our current backcourt.
I think the current backcourt fits really well with what Lloyd is looking to run at Arizona - he kept these guys for a reason - and we're unlikely to find a ballhandler in the portal who would be a good enough fit to take away a starting spot from one of these guys. I'm admittedly high on Kerr and Larsson as primary ball handlers with Kier and Terry available if needed. And then between Larsson, Kier, Mathurin, Terry, Nowell, and Bal we should be fine at the two and three.
We ought to be in the top five of the conference and the top 40 in the country - which would be enough to make the tournament. Not saying we'll go far, but I don't think there's any reason to believe this team can't win the 20 or so games it'll take to make the dance in an improved Pac-12.

Re: let's talk '21
We've talked about this first sentence but the rest of the quote is awesome:
“I’m not gonna bring in somebody unless I think that they really add to the mix here. There’s been a lot of changes in these guys’ lives this year and so I’m trying to be really mindful of that. And for the guys that came back to Arizona and the guys that decided just to come here, I want to do the best job I can delivering on the opportunities that we’ve talked about.”
For all the folks who've preached "development >> one year rentals" - this is that in action. Great way for Lloyd to engender himself to these guys as a new coach parachuting into this team - give them the opportunity to grow on the court instead of recruiting over them with one year rentals.

I'm really liking CL so far. One of my daughter's in laws is Kevin Pangos and even though I have never met him, according to my SIL, Kevin talks about CL with glowing praise. Hopefully we will be singing his praises soon also

Would be a really nice get for our front court.
Not sure if we have a chance.

Our front court will no doubt look attractive to Garcia. Tubelis, Garcia and Koloko would be very strong. Ballo looks like he has long way to go before he gets significant minutes.

A fair amount of inconsistency in the play from all three of our FIBA participants, but that's to be expected in this format (young players, minimal practice time together, minimal scouting).
Nice mixtape of Tubelis's play here, including an early block on Benn (#11 for CAN):

And here is Benn giving lowly Japan the business:

So are we to assume we are getting Aiken back?
If so he fills a big void we had. I feel way more confident in this squad with him on the roster.

No insider knowledge on whether he's coming back, just my thoughts that I'm not sure he'll be more than 10-15 mpg.IndianaZonaFan wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 4:19 pm So are we to assume we are getting Aiken back?

That said, it's a 10-15 mpg we could really use. I've harped on how we're paper thin, and Aiken would give us a smaller 4 without having to play Terry or Mathurin out of position. Aiken's offensive game is not great, but you think 10-15 minutes of D and rebounding would help if he just doesn't take bad shots.
I don't think his ability necessarily moves the needle a ton, but he does bring D and rebounding and he does so at a pretty big position of need.

Great for our depth. Welcome back Kim Clay Aiken.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

Re: let's talk '21
Very glad to have him back on the roster. Very much need him to be a dirty work player and chill on the three point attempts - last season dude shot 70% at the rim, 50% on 2pt jumpers, and only 30% on his threes but took more than half his attempts from three.
I’m very hopeful that on a much better team with a ton of scorers, he can take some better looks from deep and more importantly take max 40% of his attempts from behind the line.
Wildly efficient from everywhere except for the place that he loves to shoot from.

His offensive solution is simple. He should shoot layups, dunks and wide open, in rhythym threes. He should not shoot anything else.YoDeFoe wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 6:09 pm Very glad to have him back on the roster. Take Russell Westbrook, who's shot between 3.7 and 7.2 three point shots a game for the last 8 years and only had two years where he made over 30% of them.

I know nothing about the schools programs or requirements for entry for entry.
Im just a white dude from snow country in the Midwest.
How did WSU pass on this young man. He has obvious intelligence, work ethic and accomplishments. This is so astounding on so many levels.
Glad we have him!!!!!!!!!!
I was bummed when he decommitted after the botched Robbins and heeke coup.
WSU is absurd.
Maybe one of the questions for entry was how big would you have made the Seattle autonomous zone, and he didn't include Oregon, California, Idaho, and Nevada.

It also could have been that the program was full or something along those lines.
Or WSU is all in on Reuben Studdard.

Offensively, he scores twice on basically the same move from a baseline out of bounds play. That quick face to the left won't be there nearly as well on the college level, but he shows he can be quick, decisive and get to the rim strong.
Not so much on a dump off. He takes one and double clutches, missing twice instead of srawing a foul. On the upside, he tips it in a third time and stays after it well.
He has a show and go move off the catch that will he called a travel by Pac refs 100% of the time. These refs don't and he draws a foul.
Tough to evaluate on D. He shows well off the pick and roll but never really gets challenged by the dribbler. His recovery is ok, but not as quick back to his man, which leads to at least one open 3.
He rotates late and doesn't rotate into a solid block out and gives up an offensive board at one point. This is small stuff, but just what needs to get sharper.
Above comments are through 18:25 on the video. I didn't time stamp for them, sorry.
Right after 18:25, he makes a good move for his first J of the day. Solid balance and release on the shot.
Around 19:55, a defensive possession begins I'm not hyped about. You see him relax off ball twice. Second time, he's easily screened for a layup. This has been recurring so far. He gets a lot of people crossing his face off ball.
Next possession down, he shuffles his feet off the catch. Again, this is 100% a travel in college. He does finish with strong work on the glass.
Next defensive trip, around 21:30, he gives ground too easily and requires help.
Ok. I've watched as much as life will permit. Overall, you can see his has good (I won't say elite) physical tools. Has a developing offensive game that looks strong, but he needs to clean up his feet off the catch. Defensively, he needs to be much more active on the weak side and when challenged so as not to require help.

Now, it's a monument to why I think a player from Creighton might need a little more offensive development before he does damage. Which is so unimportant, it probably requires negative integers to measure.
