If that's even remotely true, we're in for a long slog this season. Can't do much in today's game without at least one dependable 3-point shooter. Most good teams have 2 or 3 guys who can do this.

Right where we should be to start the year. I’m very excited to see how we stack up with Wichita St (and Michigan if we win the first one).

If we beat Wichita St and Michigan, they're going to name a campus building after Lloyd.

Huh??

Oh I’m just poking fun at our (my own included) eagerness to see this program kick ass again. If Lloyd delivers in a major way in year one, he’ll be the toast of Tucson.

Jedd Fisch was the toast of Tucson two months ago.

Instead of trying to lick the sphincter of whoever the next abject failure is, we should maybe venerate those who have actually won and have their programs on the right track.

Just because Tommy Boy wins a couple games with Sean Miller’s team doesn’t mean anything. If you’re looking for a coach to canonize and admire, Adia Barnes is the one who deserves it.

Okay, guess I'll head over to the thread for the women's team, then?

I think the bball program and the FB program are way different, and so are the coaches.

Anyone hired by Booby Bobbins is automatically assumed by me not to be able to coach their way out of a wet paper bag.

Tommy Boy is going to get his shot to disabuse me of my prejudice real soon.

I get that, and I can respect your stance.

I have a buddy who is a huge Zags booster/fan and he said that he’s an official Arizona fan as well now, just cause of Tommy. He said he loves Few, but that it is a huge loss when Tommy went to Tucson.

“You are gonna enjoy the hell out of this season” was his quote this weekend.

Well we've been abused enough already so it is officially time for the disabuse to start!!! Nov 1 starts the Tommy Lloyd disabuse campaign and hopefully we will enjoy the hell out of the season.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Greedy goals for season:

-top 2 Pac finish

This is a key year. If Tommy has success (not championship contending success, but shows he can coach and win games), it will stabilize some of the unknowns in terms of perception from a recruiting standpoint, and should open the door to Arizona caliber players once again committing to the program.

I loved when T.O. said that Pelle Larsson is a PG who didn't turn the ball over last season.

But generally I really like what Dauster does and think he deserves more eyeballs.

Clearly they had no idea on the second pod cast. Saying Omar is a monster and Pelle does not turn it over was completely inaccurate. I have higher hope down the road for Omar simply because if he learns the game he is physically a monster. I do think he can play spot up minutes for Koloko and we better hope Koloko isn't a foul a minute guy like he has been in the past.

As I have said over and over style of play will be critical for recruiting.

What no one has ever asked is about the secondary break our coach that worked with Roy may have brought with him. No mention anywhere and if you are going to run it is a great weapon to have.

To me, your “reasonable goals” are minimums. Those are things I expected of Miller this season and he was fired so we could have better on court results.

My minimum goal for any coach hired by President Bobby Fuckface is to win one game.

Just one fucking game.

So far that’s been a tall order…

Our soccer coach has won 3 games so far so there is that. Although we have are having our worst season since at least a decade which seems to be a theme.

When every coach these clowns have hired has fallen flat on their face, the realistic thing to do is expect the same until proven otherwise. In fact it is insane to think otherwise based on history.

But we've got a new coach and a solid roster. I'm so ready for some college hoops.

oh good god stop the in-fighting.

Miller did so many amazing things at Arizona its natural for die hard fans to still be a little perturbed at the way he was let go, and annoyed at the almost comical way the administration has ignored all his tremendous accomplishments as if he didnt exist, filling his void with a career assistant coach....sorry HOF career assistant coach.

ive said on here many times im excited for the change, excited to watch a new style, and generally excited for a new voice, its time, IMNSHO.

however, i fully appreciate and understand the wait and see approach - the one thing im most happy about that was caused by the departure of Miller is the subtraction of James Akinjo.

his vacancy immediately ups the overall vibe and provides tremendous opportunity for Mathurin and Tubelis to take the team over - their style and personality fits the new head coaches system much better than the aforementioned.

We were told this change was to help us improve and reach our potential. That is how it should be judged. I like the way Tommy dealt with Goodwin and I am hopeful but the proof is in wins and losses as well as style of play.

agreed, it's pretty remarkable...the boards are not fun places to go to right now, feels like half of the posters have already made up their (feeble) minds on Tommy being a bad hire...season can't come soon enough. it was very clear to any rational Arizona fan that Miller's time had come and gone, and imo Tommy was the best realistic hire we could have made this offseason - Onward!!

To me, your “reasonable goals” are minimums. Those are things I expected of Miller this season and he was fired so we could have better on court results.
This "if he doesn't achieve right now what Miller could have maybe achieved" mentality is a great way to stay mad.
Glad someone said this. I've never seen this degree of angst from AZ fans.
agreed, it's pretty remarkable...the boards are not fun places to go to right now, feels like half of the posters have already made up their (feeble) minds on Tommy being a bad hire...season can't come soon enough. it was very clear to any rational Arizona fan that Miller's time had come and gone, and imo Tommy was the best realistic hire we could have made this offseason - Onward!!
Totally. And I may be in the minority here, but I think it's exciting that this new coaching staff is comprised almost entirely of key figures in Gonzaga's rise to elite status over the last couple decades. Few is clearly the main piece, but it takes a team of coaches to really build an elite program. I'm excited to see what Tommy and his guys can do.

Agree with most of this, but I will miss Akinjo who had no fear when playing and taking the big shot. I hope that someone steps up to take over that role, and I can see Kerr being that guy.

I don't think anyone has made up their minds that Tommy is a bad hire, it would take someone with a feeble mind to take that from what has been posted. Questioning the motives of the move, the awful recruiting so far, the ability of this administration to make a decent hire, etc. is normal with a move like this when there has been little good news to silence those questions since the hiring. The season starts in a few weeks and at that point people can start making real opinions on the hire.

I’m hoping we can get to the postseason as the last two “what if” seasons were so deflating

I think the NCAA tournament is a reasonable expectation for this team. It's always a little dicey with a new coach, especially one with zero HC experience, but that doesn't change the expectation, imo.

Just one fucking game.

So far that’s been a tall order…
Our soccer coach has won 3 games so far so there is that. Although we have are having our worst season since at least a decade which seems to be a theme.

Fair enough. If your reasonable goals are different, let's hear em.
Top 3 in conference
Finals of conference tournament
S16
85 points a game
No losses to lousy schools.
No crying at pressers unless you have a net around your neck.

As an aside, I’ve been to every home football game this year.

One month til the Vegas trip!!!!!!!
Got confirmation that I will have help with deliveries that week, which was a hurdle!

Thank God for Ron bailing me out again.

Now all we need is to not get Covid'd out or have something stupid happen.

Got a bunch of new bright red shirts for the games.

Been since the Stanley Johnson year since I've been to a game.

So excited!!!!!!!
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.
