I was at one of the last 5 concerts the Dead did, it was awesome.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I expect Walton would have been there for the Dead, so same answer.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 6:13 amIncorrect, or shall I say partly incorrect.
When the Grateful Dead played there.

Parlay that number with the money line which has to be at least +175 I would think

For the game at McKale, we were only favored by 1.5. Everyone has the Bruins pegged as comfortable favorites here.

We haven’t won at Pauley since 2017 and they have the nations longest home court win streak of 24. It’s time!

Re: UCLA rivalry
We’ve also beaten them 3 straight dating back to last season.
Re: UCLA rivalry
This game will be decided on two things:
1. Turnovers (if we are 10 or less we win)
2. Rebounds (win the boards, win the game)

Re: UCLA rivalry
Thing I expect to change:
1. Singleton had zero points in the first game.
2. Ced had zero points in the first game
3. Kylan had 2 points in the first game.
4. UCLA had 18 offensive rebounds (if they do that again we lose)
5. UCLA took 18 more shots than Arizona (if they do that again we lose)
6. UCLA will press more to create TO's to get easy buckets for their offense.
I think people forget that we held UCLA to 44 points with 2 minutes remaining and turned the ball over a bunch at the end.
Wild card determining factors will be if we can pick up early fouls on Bona or if Ballo gets called for walking,3 sec.

Let’s also remember UCLA missed a lot of shots I don’t expect them to miss in Pauley.TheCat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:02 am Thing I expect to change:

Having said that the Bruins are not a great scoring team (79th in FG% and 125th in pts per gm) their defense is better than ours and our defensive rebounding has been spotty lately.
Assuming they let them play today (haha, we will see) it should be another low scoring game and whoever controls the boards probably wins.

Re: UCLA rivalry
Having beaten ucla so many times over the years (and don't get me wrong, it's always great), I find myself caring a lot less about today's game than I normally would. Increasingly, all I want is a FF (or ideally a national title). So while it would be great to ruin their perfect home record and make their 7th year juniors' last game at Pauley a loss, I'm really looking forward to what happens in two weeks.
Re: UCLA rivalry
Despite what felt like total domination by Arizona in that game, I think the analytics in that game had UCLA with some quality shots that just didn't fall. I suspect you will "see them play", but UCLA shoots the same amount of FTs on the road as they do at home, which is about 16 per game. Arizona shoots nearly ten more FTs at home than on the road. If Arizona can pack Pauley more than they usually do, it could help close that gap from the normal ten in their splits. Selling out games like Arizona and Cal have been good to see from a fan perspective. We've also been turning the ball over a lot more the last couple of weeks, which has been uncharacteristic.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 11:16 amLet’s also remember UCLA missed a lot of shots I don’t expect them to miss in Pauley.TheCat wrote: ↑Sat Mar 04, 2023 10:02 am Thing I expect to change:

I expect whoever takes the early lead to hold onto it. I don't think "playing for seeding" is as big of an emotional issue as playing for your postseason lives, playing in a one and done situation, or playing for the title. It also sounds like an uphill battle to pass all of the teams from the middle part of the country for seeding purposes.
I will just offer congratulations for your win now!

I really feel like this is going to be another great game in this amazing rivalry.
I am sad to see it coming to an end

Re: UCLA rivalry
Neither team shot well in the first game. UCLA wont shoot as bad and I don't believe we will either. Rebounds will be the key. If we win the boards I believe we will win the game. If we have careless turnovers it will help their offense which can REALLY struggle at times.
Hope it is a good game and that both teams stay healthy.

The “stay healthy” part is all I really care about for AZ today. This team can win a few games in the tourney, but we need the whole roster.

Re: UCLA rivalry
I really doubt it will. Just keep scheduling home and home OOC series.

This is a very important year to win the PAC because it will be the last time we play most of these teams and the end of the conference.

Re: UCLA rivalry
I hope we play them in Vegas again to make up for not getting them in Tucson this year.

i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

Re: UCLA rivalry
I dp wonder if our ADs will try to schedule ooc games with UCLA or any other PAC 12 teams regularly or not. It will be a shame if we go a decade or something without playing them

Re: UCLA rivalry
Considering UCLA has to travel even farther than we do in conference, you'd think they'd want to play us OOC as much as we do just to have a good quality opponent you don't need to fly halfway across the country for.

Re: UCLA rivalry
Fuck the LA schools, just play neutral site games at the Lakers arena or the new Clippers arena Balmer is building from now on. Don't need them to play there (football should also consider a neutral site "big ooc" game there).
Usually they'd be in Phoenix or in Vegas but just put them in LA or SF.

We have a coach who's into a badass OOC schedule. Let Mick come to McKale if his kiddies are burned out on flyover time.

Wow. We really own the head-to-head right now? Pretty sweet if true.
Re: UCLA rivalry
I would rather be an AZ fan. We have so much more fun and dominate in every category except FF (they have one more), and NC.Beachcat97 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 9:39 am Wow. We really own the head-to-head right now? Pretty sweet if true.
oh head to head pretty even.
UCLA boring Pauley Pavillion, just has not been as consistently good as AZ.
