Fans tend to be part of a continuum; teams/coaches/programs tend to fall within a spectrum. My hatred of Wiscy persists whether Miller or Lloyd is coaching, but Lloyd resets the spectrum and I should be able to reckon the team qua that spectrum and not qua myself. When it comes to Wildcat basketball I pretty much suck at doing that.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 6:48 pmThat’s a lot of things to digest…dovecanyoncat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:48 pm There is the thing, and then there is the way the thing makes me feel. I have a touch more distance on the thing this time around, and I hope to be a better judge of our thing. It's especially tough with Wisconsin but it serves as an excellent indicator and confirmation of objective reality. In the end it's better that Wiscy is scary good right now. Our thing should respect that and know how important it is.

I’d add Kansas 2003 in the E8. Final game for Walton, Gardner and Anderson.
Re: Arizona/Wisconsin
Well, I guess that its a fan’s prerogative to carry and nurse grudges. I don’t engage in that so much in college basketball.
Since not a single coach or player on the present team was involved in any of those prior contests, I guess that its not as big a deal for most, if not all, of them. Those past pains still hurt, but, for me, don’t relate all that much to the here-and-now.
I’m really excited about this week’s game because its our first defense of our #1 status, and Wisconsin is playing really well and getting a lot of attention. By any measure, its a BIG game.
A win will thrill me! A loss would crush me! A dominating win would put me in a state that only a few fellow sports fan friends would understand. But the history vs Wisconsin doesn’t actually affect any of that very much.
But it’s “BTFD!!!!” all the way!

I didn’t realize our record against those pasty cheese-cultivators was so heinous. Now I definitely feel this is a must-win.

I want the entire game to be one exquisite, seemingly unending skullfucking, beginning at tip off without foreplay, and culminating without cuddling, punctuated throughout by the sound of cranial fractures echoing up toward the McKale crowd from a lake of Badger vitreous fluid mixed with orgasms contributed by our entire bench.
But that's just me.

Objectively, Wisconsin has a good shot in this game. They've already beaten good teams, and they've won 6 straight.
I still think our depth and speed give us a slight edge, but they have size and shooting.
Should be close the whole way.

We will definitely get Wisky's best shot. However, the crowd will be electric. The emotions are going to be really high for this game. It is be deafening at McKale.
Re: Arizona/Wisconsin
I don't disagree with you but we are ranked #1 and are playing on our home court. It should be a great game for basketball fans and I hope CTL keeps scheduling these types of games. I want our defense to be so withering the refs have to use the 2h whistle to keep the Badgers within 25 points before 3 technicals by the Wisconsin and a bench-clearing brawl close out the game. Santa, I've been good.

Ain't happening. Interestingly Wisconsin is 3-1 against us in the NCAA tournament. They literally own us. They have good shooters and we have average at best ones and they're better defensively. That will be the difference today. Honestly I think Wisconsin wins relatively easily today. They match up with us very well. I could see a 75-65 type finish. Reality check incoming.EastCoastCat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 08, 2023 6:35 am I really really want to see one of our "spurt of death" runs on Saturday.

One interesting stat is pace of play.
https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-baske ... s-per-game
Possessions per game
8 Arizona 78.1
348 Wisconsin 65.8
Need to take advantage of this
Rebounds
1 Arizona 47.4
233 Wisconsin 34.3
