Seem to recall Ced Dempsey did the UA no favors when he was on the committee. Just the opposite.

Terrible choice. Another sport that nobody will watch and that adds nothing to campus life. Going to take a few hours in the evening and go watch the triathlete competition on campus-or anywhere else?

Not that I cared for Heeke, but Robbins is really showing his true colors for this. He's going to fire a lot of other people for his blunders.

Scheer seemed like Barnes would be the best candidate moving forward because of her relationship with boosters as well. If the athletic department is in financial trouble, it’s not like they are going to shell out big money to steal another AD

Lots of speculation and very little in the way of facts to determine the proper course of action here.

I'll repeat what I said when the $240M first went missing.......The ABOR should bring in independent accountants and audit the books for everything. If it was the CFO's fault, then fire her. If Robbins knew all along then fire his ass. If Heeke did wildly overspend then fire (wait a minute, that already happened).

Bottom line the ABOR had better conduct a very thorough independent audit of the UA's books. I would not trust anyone at the UA. But if heads will roll it needs to be the right heads, not just someone who is unpopular with a lot of professors.

Based on what??? Yoiu don't know that an outside audit was conducted, and by who. And if the audit shows the CFO royally screwed up and then covered it up then she should be fired.

I doubt that cost $240M

If I was going to take a guess at where the $240M went I would look at all of those tower cranes & construction activity occurring on the NW side of the campus. Construction costs can, and easily do, blow out in spectacular fashion.

I don't know that it was Heekes fault. Hard to believe that the athletic dept. lost $240M.

I just want to see an independent audit with NOBODY from the UA involved. For all we know this audit of the athletic dept. was conducted by the same incompetent idiots that lost the bulk of the $240 and they are throwing Heeke under the bus to save their own ass.

Thats why I want an ABOR lead independent (with full public disclosure) audit. Find out who really screwed up and hold them accountable.

For those that don't live in Tucson the UA has been engaged in a number of large construction projects (mainly centered around the NW side of the campus). These projects are very large and costs lots of $$$$$.

Its really not that complicated.

If you are president of a company and $250 million dollars goes "missing" 1 of 2 things must be true:

1-You knew about it which makes you complicit
2- You didn't know about it which makes you incompetent

Take your pick, but the outcome should be the same either way

I obviously can't speak for the UA, but at the California university I worked at, Campus Housing used no state funding for their construction projects.

Being a landlord on a state campus is a very lucrative business.

When my son went to Cal Poly before the pandemic, he paid $1050 a month for a private bedroom and a shared bathroom in apartment. However, they did get cleaning done weekly in the common areas.

Not saying that these construction projects are part of the UA's money issues, but I would be surprised if they were.

Just a side note, academic recruiting for the best and brightest students is really a lot more effort than people think. Campus apartments is a big draw. Another of the biggest investments a campus can make is a recreation center, and even these use student funds, no state/academic funds.

Cal Poly and UA both have world class recreation centers.

There isn't any UA money in the NW side projects unless it's hidden very well, and I don't believe public entities can do that. At one point they might have sold the land to the developers, but that'd be it. North of Speedway by the AME building is a UA structure though (not student housing), as is the recently complete phase 2 of the Optical Sciences building near the library.

UA has also built a lot around the DT Phoenix TGEN campus.

Partially agree. #1 should get him fired. #2 should only get him fired if there is a reasonable expectation that he should have discovered the fiscal mismanagement going on under his nose. There are a number of things that coulc have happened:

1) The CFO could have screwed up and then covered it up
2) Some mid level accountant under the CFO (in charge of those construction projects) could have screwed up and then tried
covering it up as long as they could
3) The UA Engr/Construction dept. could have screwed up and then covered it up
4) We might have someone in the administration embezzling funds
5) Some combination of any or all of the above

Thats why an independent audit is required (with complete public transparency) so the right people are held accountable.

Scheer is the one that said it was no big deal. I posted that it was a big deal and it probably cost us a football coach and now an AD. Waiting for the audit but Robbins will save his own skin first.

You may be correct. But I still believe that the "lost" money is in construction projects. Here's a current list of construction projects
and there are some VERY expensive ones going on:
