I love how phoned in the final shirt feels.

I think that’s Rem Bakamus, Director of Player Development. Also, I think he’s like 30, so not a kid unless you’re an old dude. ;)
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

That’s awesome. Love RJ so much and his broadcast last night was hilarious. It’s like he spoke for all of us don’t you think?

For me there is no better fucking ambassador for Arizona basketball.

Excellent question Ari. More and more I get the feeling this team just loves to compete. Our bad stretches, when they happen, seem to only last 2-3 possessions.

We don’t get pushed around anymore. That’s why Pastner’s comments - and I’ve heard him say the same thing 4x about how Arizona will react against a grind it out/ punch you in the mouth team - is not applicable to this team if you watch them game after game. We’ve got some warriors.

This team seems to have a killer instinct that the last two Arizona teams did not.

That’s not to say we can’t come out flat or go through lulls, but this team in particular seems to be aware that there’s a direct line between their effort and their results.

Dominance

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

Regarding Pac titles, a few points are pertinent. The whole reason number of titles is mentioned is to quantify Arizona's dominance in the league. To begin with, we ranged between mediocre and terrible for our first few years in the league. So it makes sense to compress the dominance into the most recent 40 years after we hit our stride to see its true impact. Also, apparently the "15" titles comes from ignoring the co-championship with Oregon St in 1989, with the league not recognizing one over the other, although we won the tournament title that year, which should be an adequate tie-breaker to count it in any event. It also omits two NCAA-mandated "vacated" titles in 2017 and 2018. Regardless of any piety about that, 18 titles in 40 years is a better reflection of the story of dominance. And regarding head-to-head with UCLA, over the past 40 years, we lead 47 to 41 (including a 7-5 record in Pac-12 Tournament games.)

Arizona's Pac Titles
1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017*, 2018*, 2022, 2024

OK knuckleheads, since we have rules I'm not gonna go there, but the true golden ticket to the latter half of our season is on deck. Maybe after the Conference Tourney I'll bring the receipts ..........

......... maybe not.

Formative relationships are unique. They blend teachers and students together in an interactive virtue that literally is transcendent. Just one of the artifacts I love about our program culture is that the player(s), with both love and absolute respect, call their coach/mentor/leader/boss/icon-of-their-college-career-creator ....... Tommy.

This is special. It is precious to me.

Exactly. Pastner's energy is fun but was he even watching the same game we were watching with that comment!?

Did he see the way the UA ignored the refs and flopping and foul trouble and kept on attacking? Did he see the way our bench came in and even raised the level of intensity to dominate and close out the first half?

His halftime speel made me wonder if he was appealing to the East Coast Network of preconceived notions about Arizona.

I realize the "correct" thing for an Arizona basketball fan is to act out the final reel of Dances With Wolves with great anguish over any loss, but I'm not feeling it. Yeah, Kentucky beat Tennessee and some will claim clairvoyance and say we blew a chance at a 1 seed. Maybe. Or maybe we were already locked into a 2, or maybe it all depends on various teams and their respective performance in their tournaments. So, after Washington did us a great favor, and we won the game most our of fans wanted the most at Pauley, and we had another Pac-12 title year already painted on the upper deck wall at McKale and the top seed in Vegas ... we had a letdown in a debatably-significant last game at Historic South Central. I believe their parade starts at 11 am tomorrow at Figueroa and Jefferson, but they can't finish above 8th place in a year when many picked them to win it. We won the conference. Again. Our season will be remembered by how we do from here on out.

Unless of course this team didn't really care to put in the effort last night. Not saying that's the case for sure or anything, but best believe if the Pac-12 title was on the line last night then the effort wouldn't have ever been in question.

IMNSHO, the Pac-12 title was in their possession.

If a #1 seed was not enough motivation, one can only ask: "Why the fuck not?"

I'm not so sure that "motivation" was the issue last night. Let's hope not! Teams that think they can turn-on/turn-off motivation aren't gonna win a 6-game single elimination tournament.

USC, at full, uninjured personnel is clearly a team that is MUCH better than their record. They played great defense, frustrating out perimeter players, and Arizona's response was poor. And, the more frustrated they got, the weaker their team play became - a perfect formula for upset - just like last year against Princeton.

We win the regular season title and 3 of our 5 losses come from the #10, #11 and #12 placed teams. This has to be some kind of record.
