2024: The Last Pac-12 Tournament

Post by TheCatInTheHat »

For those going to Vegas, the tournament is March 13-16. Arizona certainly will be in the top four seeds that get a bye, so their first game will be on Thursday,. March 14. If we're the #1 seed, we'd play at 12 noon. The 2 seed is at 6 pm, the 3 is at 8:30, and the 4 plays at 2:30. All Pacific Time, and Arizona will be in sync with that as of March 10. The Pac-12 Network will carry all early games until the 8:30 game on the 14th, which will be on FS1. Pac-12 will carry the 5 pm semi on the 15th, with FS1 carrying the late game at 7:30. The championship game on the 16th at 6 pm will be on Fox TV.

The bracket is out.

The UA will play the winner of Washington-USC........which I assume will be USC of course. Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats have 4 days
to figure out how to beat the Condoms

Lakers schedule:

Mar 13, 2024 @ Sacramento

Mar 16, 2024 vs Golden St. in LA

We could get another LeBron sighting if it's U$C. Short flight to Vegas.

USC is much better now with their guys all healthy. But UA was super sloppy yesterday on top of tons of players being cold.

Was really hoping asu would be in the 8 9

So between the P12 network and FS1, no one outside of diehard fans will see the games until the championship.

Hopefully UDub wears SC out. But then again, after that nationwide embarrassment, the Cats might actually care to win this game.

To think that USC at full strength couldn’t beat us and win the tourney is loser thinking. They have two NBA guards and a talented roster when healthy. They will be very motivated and can play very lose.

Of course I think we should win, after all if we can’t beat even a motivated USC team, what chance would we have with UCONN or Houston. That said, I expect a very tough game with the Trojans on Thursday

I think it's a good test for us and may be good for our tourney run. If we can't beat USC, depending on match ups, how far can we expect to go?

OTOH I wouldn't be surprised if USC win the Pac12 tournament

I couldn't care less about the Pac 12 tournament. We're playing for absolutely nothing. I really don't care about regular season conference championships either. Nobody cares! Especially in a crappy conference where we still managed to lose 5 games to the most horrible teams. UCONN has won several national championships and I'm certain that in most if not all of those seasons they didn't win their own conference. But because they're in a better conference they're always more prepared for the rigors of the NCAA tournament and hence get better results. Arizona will lose more games every year in the Big 12 but they'll be better prepared as a result. This year will likely end with another first round exit. That's the reality. My money is on whoever UA plays in the first round. Might as well profit off the predictable pattern of failure.

My bad. I misunderstood. I see tons of losers wanting to lose early this week. Again my bad

It will be tough but I think Cats are better

No vegas this year. Wanted to bad but just couldn’t make it happen.

Really tough luck we get the co preseason favorite likely in the first round. They are a load when healthy.

I do believe we will play very inspired and give great effort so I do think with our best we win but it will be a nutcutter

Last year was fun, as the 'Vengeance Ride' tournament to take care of ASU and UCLA, especially with lots of UCLA fans there. This year, I doubt that many of them will show up. And ditto for 11th place ASU. We may get a revenge game right out of the box if USC beats Washington with lame-duck Mike Hopkins. Or, the UW team may rally with the Jake Taylor speech in Major League. It would be great to finish up 3-0 in the Pac, but our name is already in the history books for 2024, so the consolation would be getting ready sooner for (I assume) Salt Lake City. In any event, we're DONE with road games to DTLA, Westwood, Palo Alto, Berkeley, Corvallis, Eugene, Seattle, and Pullman. Don't particularly care to see any of them again. If we do UCLA, do them (yes, it's intentional) on a "neutral" court in Phoenix/Anaheim with neutral refs from out of the region. (The same Pac-12 refs we know and love so much from around here will no doubt scurry to do both LA teams in the B1G.)

Ideal path

First round don't care. Either one more win on Washington who was a good rival for a whole or revenge on USC

Revenge on Washington State Saturday

Let's just let the bench guys start and get ready for the tournament that matters.

It's obvious that our starters are tired and need a bit of time to rejuvenate.

USC defeats Washington. We'll get our chance at revenge at noon tomorrow.

I'm going to off myself if the perimeter action is the same: their guard dribbles around the high screen and into the paint/elbow bchased by our guard as our big drops back and our guard gets trapped on the ball handlers butt.

It's another one of these weeks this season where we can only hurt our tourney seed, not help it. Beating USC and UCLA does absolutely nothing for our seed position.

I'm so over the Pac.

Also, did losing to USC effectively knock us out of contention for a 1 seed? I'd think a Pac tourney title coupled with Tennessee and UNC losses could still get us to the top line.

Crazy ass shit with Cal/Stanford. Cal was blowing them out by 18 at one point, but then went ice cold and now the game is going to OT.

I was surprised it was as crowded as it was for a noon start on a Thursday. You're correct about the upper level being almost full and entirely Arizona fans. And like you said, the only empty seats I saw in the lower section was seats for the other schools. Great turnout and it got pretty loud in there too.

I haven't missed an Arizona game in the tournament since it's been here in Las Vegas and this was as big a crowd as I've seen for a 1st round game for the Cats. Making it hard to find cheap tickets for the game tomorrow. Hopefully UCLA loses and their fans sell their tickets.

UCLA would be leading if they had a real coach. Chucking 3s is not the best way to catch up, Mick.

For the perception of the conference going forward, it’s probably a good thing to get them in.

Since the PAC splits NCAA tourney revenue evenly after expenses, the more teams that get in will benefit Arizona financially so yes.

But then again, since much of the tourney payouts are in future years, WSU and ntOSU will really benefit, and I'm good with that too.

I was really rooting for OT and UCLA tried to make it happen, but the shot just didn't fall. Oh well. See you when you dump Mick, UCLA.

I’m just waiting for that patented west coast bias the PAC-12 carefully cultivated over these many years to get all our bubble teams into the tourney.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
