Tickets for both events go on sale Thursday morning at 10 am, which is weird to me because most people are at work. I guess this way they wont have to worry about the sever overloading on a Saturday morning?

Also both events will be streaming on ESPN+.

I did my best shopping at work! But I sat at a desk all day. Besides, everyone has cell phones unless you work in a manic environment and don't have time.

If it worked out that we'd play Gonzaga in the Atlantis title game, that would be 8 games against Top Ten teams on our schedule:

1. @ Kansas
4. Houston
5. Gonzaga (Bahamas)
6. Baylor
6. @ Baylor
7. Iowa St
7. @ Iowa St
8. Duke

It's going to be really crazy playing so many games against top 10 teams in the reg season, with most against teams in our own league. I really can't think of a year where we played 5 or more games against Pac teams ranked in the top 10. Maybe during the 90s when ucla and Stanford were both good??

I just checked - the Phoenix showcase tix are sold via ticketgrifter/ticketmaster. Cheapest tix are $20 plus $17 in fees. I will probably still go, if my friend is willing to drive the hour it takes to get to Glendale from Tempe.
I will see you there, or I will see you on another time

A new game to add to the non-conference schedule.

IU/Mich State is arguably a bigger rivalry than IU/Purdue.

And Illinois/Mizzou? It’s like he just broke out Google Maps to make this up based on proximity.

As Andy’s waistline expands, his IQ dips.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?

My god that list.

Utah/BYU for football as well? I mean might as well put AZ/ASU then if that's how we're doing this.

Katz may be entering his "Vitale phase," where he no longer actually pays attention to what he's covering and just writes whatever comes into his head.

What about UofM / MSU?

I know I'm from Michigan but it's bigger than many of those, plus the obvious one, Zona / UCLA. That's up there with Louisville and Kentucky.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

I grew up in Michigan, and really don't remember any basketball rivalries. Unlike football, where the UM/tOSU game was the biggest sporting event in Michigan for the entire year. When I was there, UM dominated MSU in football and it really wasn't a rivalry.

I sure remember this short basketball rivalry, MSU v. ISU.

Even then, I hated frickin' Larry Bird. Doofus from French Lick.

Basically they're utilizing the crown jewel of their schedule to sell tickets to other games. It sucks, but it's business and pretty standard. There's always Seatgeek and the like to get tickets just to the Duke game.

I remember in '85 & '86 how season ticket holders were upset when Lute added a premium donation to the cost of a season ticket...

The issue is that Fox and ESPN share the basketball rights, so they have to pick and choose what games they want. Negotiations take time. If only ESPN owned the rights this would've been done long ago.

Well here's another reason. Some games are going to be on CBS Sports Network now.

Ironically, even though it's pretty obscure, CBS Sports is probably at least as available as the Pac-12 network was. But, it's a little frustrating to wade through what seem like pretty last-minute media negotiations for basketball media coverage when we're already one-fourth of the way through football season. I get every Dodger game, so I'm happy to pay for cable and don't need that debate. But the little shell game of service and content providers clearly colluding to hold obsessive fan types up for more dough for a tiny handful of games isn't terribly new, but it's still more than a little disgusting. I've got plenty of streaming channels, so if it turns out to make any difference, I'll add Paramount, which owns CBS (the old studio conglomerates own the over-air broadcast networks) in order to get CBS Sports. But, if it turns out to be a handful of blowout non-conference games and/or just a few lesser conference games, maybe there won't be too much reason to care.
