not surprised
Re: Craig Victor to transfer
I wonder what happened between Sunday and today. Can't imagine he would've played if he knew he was transferring.
“The reality is that the hardest games to win are over teams on their home court. Teams that don’t play those games can spin it however they want, but what they’re saying is, ‘We don’t want to lose in our non conference season.’" - Sean Miller

Think he just missed a tutoring session.
Never understood transferring midyear. You have to give up a whole years' eligibility to play half the year after sitting out the year.

Re: Craig Victor to transfer
It makes sense that he is transferring. With Bash back this year he wasn't going to get many minutes and then next year could be even worse for him with Anderson and possibly Rabb. Would have liked to see him stick it out and earn some minutes down the line but I don't blame the guy.

Not surprised, only by the timing. Could mean:
1. Ryan Anderson is tearing it up.
2. Word of incoming recruit.
3. Somebody is staying (unexpectedly)
4. Misses gumbo.
5. But won't miss gumby.

Exactly, why leave now especially when you can be part of a potential Final Four team in just a couple of months.
Unless that wasn't an option?

Wrong board, wrong team. Basketball is not a team filled with transfers from other schools. Every now and again but hardly a staple. As for transfers out... We have had a few, and will have more. It does not seem to happen with quite the frequency they did under Lute - and we certainly aren't Oregon. As for the news, very disappointing but I wish CV the best.Machina wrote:University of Transfers
Machina should transfer to another board following a program of underdogs and misfit toys. That seems to be your peeps... And that is not Arizona Basketball.

Is it an immediate transfer or at the end of the season? He will have sit out a full year either way right?

Re: Craig Victor to transfer
Well, not being an insider (nor subscribing to any insider info website) this comes as a surprise to me. He's looked rather promising at times on the court and I could definitely see him blossoming into quite a productive player in the future. Guess he just had it in his head that he was a top-level guy and should be starting/playing more. (indeed, espn says it's in search of playing time: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... ch-playing )
Is anyone able to shed some light on if there was any other factor? Did he clash with/not like someone on the staff? The Tucson feel as a whole? Anything else or was it just as cut and dry as he wanted to see the floor more?

If it's about not getting playing time this year, he's being silly.
If it's about not getting playing time next year and beyond, then he's probably being smart.

Re: Craig Victor to transfer
The timing makes sense. He can be ready for conference play a year from now.
He's got some nice skills and a smoothness about him, and he'll be a solid pickup for a lower-profile program with lower expectations. He just doesn't have the size, talent, and (it would seem) work ethic to earn big minutes in the system going against top level college players in practice. He was going to be a 4-year role player for Arizona. I just hope he goes to a program that he can thrive in, and not make the mistake of going to another program where his chances to be more than a role player aren't any better.

I didn't get that at all. He seemed like an old school junk yard dog. He's only a freshman, add some meat, he would push around fools left and right. I don't think he is lower-profile program talent. Re: Craig Victor to transfer
Let's not knee-jerk this.
He doesn't want to wait and buy into the "process" and that's fine. Some kids get a rude awakening when they finally see what a real big time elite program is all about. He's probably concerned whether he will really get a lot of minutes either this year or next considering how stacked we are right now and who will be coming in next year.
It happens, but should have no real impact on what SM is trying to achieve.

Re: Craig Victor to transfer
I agree with you completely, but I think the issue is that times have changed. You and I look at this kid and see a possibility for something along the lines of Eugene Edgerson, who blossomed in a high profile program. But that's when Lute Olson was building his legacy based partly on his ability to find and develop diamonds in the rough. According to him, he never once won a recruit that UCLA wanted. Eugene probably wouldn't have had the same opportunity in a program that's recruiting at this level. And unlike Eugene, Craig Victor may not be prepared to wait 2-3 years. He can be a big fish faster at a lower profile high major.Bosy Billups wrote:I didn't get that at all. He seemed like an old school junk yard dog. Here are the current PER's for the regular rotation players at Arizona (with minutes played):
24.7 Rondae Hollis Jefferson (356)
23.8 Craig Victor (58)
23.7 Stanley Johnson (394)
19.2 Parker Jackson-Cartwright (147)
18.6 T.J. McConnell (405)
18.4 Dusan Ristic (114)
17.5 Brandon Ashley (412)
17.0 Gabe York (314)
14.2 Kaleb Tarczewski (387)
12.3 Elliott Pitts (203)
There shouldn't be much of a question as to why Victor elected to transfer at this time.

Re: Craig Victor to transfer
Would've loved to have Victor and PJC in a Cats uni in their 3rd and 4th year as some veteran leadership. At a program such as Arizona you have to expect a transfer a year and if this is it then this is it. At least it gives the staff a good amount of time to strategize on their "big board" for that position and how they want to move forward from here in terms of recruiting from HS or an experienced transfer.

Craig Victor has the opportunity to be infinitely better than Eugene Edgerson. Victor received the minutes he should be receiving on this year's team. It's unfortunate for us he is leaving, because I think he had the opportunity to be a significant contributor during his career. But not right here, not right now.
I am sure the right new coach would see the light and such problems would be avoided. You and Machina make quite a pair.

He'll got to LSU and team up with Simmons (if eligible). But that's his hometown.
Too bad, moved to Findley, Pasternick put in a lot of work, was excited to be a Wildcats, and then poof.
