We're Up: College basketball season starts now

Post by Longhorned »

Monday after the Superbowl is always the start. Before that point, it's just a few lunatics who pay follow college basketball. Today is the first day that the nation starts paying attention, and over the next two months this is the most visible and talked about sport in the country, the manifestation of "madness" itself. "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." This is our time.

Today, the world wakes up to find Duke as the darling of the college basketball world. Who's this "Virginia" of which these polls and bracketologies speak? Ah, looks like Duke beat them, so it's really all about Duke, right? And Kentucky is undefeated? That's because they haven't played Duke! And wow! it looks like it could be Gonzaga's year to establish itself as King of Everything. UCLA looks hot - don't count them out! Welp, that's it.

From the latest ESPN college basketball headlines, Duke is so awesome that it's emotionally draining even for Duke to be so awesome:

I imagine that if we only beat Georgia Tech by 6 at home, we'd drop to 12 in Gary Parrish's rankings.

UA could be one of the giants that could fall, losing to a team ranked 5 spots or so lower: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/giant-k ... could-fall

Duke #3 is teams that could beat Kentucky: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketba ... t-kentucky

That's only because they haven't played Duke. February is Duke time. Duke owns February.
