The Wear Down
It is real.
Of the 12 coaches, Rush picked the one whose fans have the deepest passion, the longest memories, the greatest lung capacity and … did I mention deep passion?
Re: The Wear Down
Twas true. Four on Kaleb? Four on Ashley? Five on Ristic? Meet Matt Korcheck!
Throw it DOWN!!!!!
Throw it DOWN!!!!!
Right where I want to be.
Re: The Wear Down
It was very obvious tonight. Stanford played like garbage the last minute just throwing up shots that weren't even close.
“The reality is that the hardest games to win are over teams on their home court. Teams that don’t play those games can spin it however they want, but what they’re saying is, ‘We don’t want to lose in our non conference season.’" - Sean Miller

Re: The Wear Down
These lame P12 Refs really weaken the conference IMHO.....Tonight was absolutely atrocious with the poor calls and the ticky-tacky ones. Really ruined the game for the spectators.
Luckily we were able to adjust at the half and close this one out.....would have been really hard to swallow a loss in this one when it was so obvious who played the better game. I hope there is some sort of review on the officials.....how frickin' embarrassing on a national stage.

If the games are called like this in Vegas I will need bail money.

Re: The Wear Down
Anyone know the difference in foul calls between halves? If you adjust out the tactical fouls by Furd at the end, my guess is fouls were packed into the first half. Given the wackiness of some of those calls and the views espressed by the TV announcers, it almost seems as if there may have been a halftime text to last night's supervising official.

We just kicked Oregon's ass coming down the stretch of that game. They were winded and folded. We were fresh and kicked into another gear.

Re: The Wear Down
I was at the game and about 8 to go it was just sad. I couldnt help it but I felt sorry for Oregon. They had just folded up and quit playing on either end of the court.
Re: The Wear Down
If Miller keeps using 9 every game, even in the second half, this team is going to be very difficult to beat. If our starters are rested with reasonable fouls with 8 minutes to go in the game, I like our chances against anybody in the country. Including Kentucky.
SJ is unstoppable on the offensive end. TJ is right there as well. When these guys drive to the basket, they either get lay-ups, short jumpers, or other defenders have to help. That opens up easy shots for our other guys. With York, Pitts, Ashley, and Ristic (!!) hitting from 3, this team is really rounding into form. Their defensive intensity is through the roof. Enjoyable to watch.

Re: The Wear Down
word! We have a very solid 9 man rotation that doesn't lose much when the subs play. PJC, Pitts, York, and Ristic would start for most teams in the Pac-12. And Korcheck would see PT for any other school.Catstatic wrote:If Miller keeps using 9 every game, even in the second half, this team is going to be very difficult to beat. Re: The Wear Down
The altitude difference from Tucson to SLC is like when Ucla goes to Tucson...2000 ft isn't that much. Man what a game...so many story lines.
Re: The Wear Down
Eh, not so sure about that. I ran two to three miles at the end of every practice in southern arizona. I'd go home to my parents place in Utah (30 min from SLC) for winter breaks and would run so I would still be in shape for the spring season and wouldn't be barfing upon my return to practice. Best shape of my life and I would be sucking wind after one mile in Utah. I am certain the game in Boulder helped somewhat as a bridge to get the guys acclimated to the higher altitudes, but it is a noticeable jump.Gilbertcat wrote:The altitude difference from Tucson to SLC is like when Ucla goes to Tucson...2000 ft isn't that much. Regarding the wear down, I don't think it's close to the same level as last year, for obvious reasons: we are down two elite defenders in NJ and AG. Everytime we are down early in games, or even in the second half, I have learned to not panic and let things play out. In my mind I am always thinking we will figure a way to win. That is largely attributed to the Wear Down thread at the TOS. With that said, we did not wear down OSU, ASU and UNLV in our three losses. Obviously not the only reason we lost those games, but I remember watching all those and telling myself, the wear down is coming, and it was us who looked worn down and ineffective on offense, not getting the key stops, etc.
Re: The Wear Down
Tucson us at about 2200-2400 feet. Salt lake is about 4400 feet. Not much of a difference. Just drive like 4 miles up the mt Lemmon highway and that's the same.
i was going to put the ua/asu records here...but i forgot what they were.

My buddy is in vegas and at half I texted him to go big on AZ in the second half because of the wear down. I hope he listened.

Per the radio: Xavier with 1 made basket in the last 9 minutes.
It's long past time to bring this back to the court, let's do it with a small update:

To be fair no team could withstand the barrage of fouls that Bradley had called on them tonight. 32 with 4 minutes to go

Re: The Wear Down
The fouls helped slow the tempo and disrupted our rhythm. We had to deal w the same nonsense they did. That may have have been the most overofficiated game I have ever seen. Virtually no physicality or contact was allowed

Game was over at half time when the cats were down 3. No way fsu could keep that shooting up and we all knew the wear down was coming especially with early minutes for Comanche and simonTheGreatCatsby wrote:Called it at halftime.
