He's already supposedly turned down offers to go overseas.

Yes, your inability to use search engines like Google or websites like ESPN does make it difficult to get your idiotic questions answered.Beachcat97 wrote:So I guess Randolph wasn't chosen. My question turned out to be harder than expected.

P.S. There were higher rated guys than Randolph who were not selected.

Good point. Maybe we need a BeachBruin thread for all the idiotic stuff you post before using a simple search engine. You're doing it wrong. You were supposed to follow this up by warning everyone to stick to Ayton talk.gumby wrote:When is our next game? Who is the opponent? Any chance Trier will be playing?

PS: Since Randolph is not a McD AA, and clearly not elite, I am pretty sure we will have no chance at beating UCLA next season either

http://www.espn.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/ ... t?id=16645" target="_blankJeff Borzello, ESPN: What’s the background on how you came from the Bahamas to here?
Ayton: Age 12, my mom put me in this camp called Jeff Rogers Basketball Camp. There was a few guys there that knew the directors of the Balboa City School, they were telling them all about me. And their director called my mom, his name was Ryan Stone. He said “Hey, I want to give your son a scholarship, this is a new program we’re doing.” They flew us out. It was a big opportunity for us to get out and really get that opportunity to play. And not just play in the United States, but to go to school for free. And the journey started from there.
JB: And what was the reason you left Balboa [for Hillcrest Prep]?
Ayton: We weren’t playing no one, to be honest. There wasn’t that much competition. I said it was about time for me to get to a higher level.
JB: Do you remember the North Carolina game?
Ayton: I just got in the game. I had just turned 16. I came late too, before the tip-off. I remember apologizing to the coach, and looked over and saw coach [Roy] Williams. I was like, “I know that dude, he looks familiar.” Saw these big dudes step on the court.
JB: You didn’t know who you were playing against that day?
Ayton: One of my friends from Balboa passed away, he drowned that day. I was just like, man I’m just gonna go play. This is crazy. I was just playing. Rebounding, doing what I gotta do to win.
JB: That video is on YouTube. Have you watched it?
Ayton: It’s everywhere. My dad sat me down and we watched it. That was a crazy game. They were stacked, but we beat them. Hopefully they remember me.
JB: Was that around the time you realized, "I’m pretty good at basketball, I might have a shot at this thing?"
Ayton: After that game, I just went home and played [NBA 2K on Xbox]. It was off my mind. Then the articles started coming out, talking about "the legend of DeAndre Ayton."
JB: Are you definitely going to college?
Ayton: Definitely. No overseas. I don’t even know what’s over there for me, to be honest. I’ll be my mother’s first child to be going to college. That’s her dream. So of course, let’s do it.
JB: Are you worried about qualifying?
Ayton: The NCAA cleared it from my junior year. I don’t know why [questions about my eligibility are] still out there. It’s gotten to a point where I’m used to it. Like seeing traffic every day.
JB: Why Arizona?
Ayton: It was my mom’s decision, to be honest. I really don’t want her to keep flying in and out to see games, I don’t want her to miss any games. it’s right next door, let’s do it. She really likes [coach] Sean Miller. We all want to make history with Sean Miller and to be part of the Wildcat family. Get him to his first Final Four. Big opportunities like that.
ESPN: For a kid who is ranked No. 1, you had a weird recruiting process.
Ayton: It was horrible. It was the worst. Everyone said I was going overseas. In eighth grade, people saying I’m not gonna be able to play. It was worst recruiting segment of my life. I didn’t really appreciate it. All your friends in your class, they’re always talking about their recruitment. But you have nothing to say. You don’t even know who’s interested in you. There’s just rumors out there. You don’t hear from those guys. Kids have calls coming in and out, I didn’t have that. I didn’t really look forward to getting phone calls and text messages from coaches. I’m not really all up in the hype. I don’t deal with the social media like that.
ESPN: So it was just Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky?
Ayton: The top schools in the country. It’s the top schools. Other than that, I didn’t know about the colleges. Throw the top three in there, and let’s try to work this out.
ESPN: Why did you commit early [in September]?
Ayton: Wherever I go, it doesn’t really matter to me. I’m gonna do my best and try to get to the top level. That’s why I throw the top three in there. Wherever I go, just try to prosper from there. Trying to figure out history and who’s going where, I don’t think it matters, to be honest.
JB: Are you going to be one and done?
Ayton: That’s the plan. We really don’t know, to be honest. I might stay two years. I never know. But the plan is one and done. But I’m not gonna go to college and try to rush through everything. I want to get a good experience.
JB: You’ve expanded your game since the past couple of years. What’s the biggest thing you’ve improved on?
Ayton: My leadership. To be honest, I haven’t had no help my whole basketball career. By help, I mean I’m always that dude that goes 100 minutes per game. Never steps off the floor. I have to always keep people on their best, A-game. When they make a mistake, I say, just brush that off. I’m not gonna get on them like, what the hell are you doing? Just slow it down, you know what you can do. When the pressure comes, just square up, do what you gotta do. Listen to the coach, stay positive the whole game. We gotta play as a unit, stuff like that. I was really quiet, not quiet, but negative in some way. I’m arguing with them, but they didn’t really know that. I slowed it down when I’m talking to people. Figure out who can take the negativity in a good way and change it to a positive, and who you need to encourage.
JB: What made you want to make that switch?
Ayton: Everybody is watching my every move. Everything I do. If I come a minute late to practice, or a second late, or I’m still tying my shoelace when coach says to huddle in, everybody is watching that. So I try to set an example. Let people know this is the right thing to do. Listen to coach, don’t brush him off.
JB: What do you think separates you and makes you the nation's No. 1 player?
Ayton: I know I’m No. 1. I don’t really look into that, but I always have myself as the underdog as well. I’m from the Bahamas, we have a lot of pride in what we do. When it comes to business, we don’t care, we just want to get the job done. We don’t care who we playing, or what's in front of us, we’re going to get the job done regardless. No matter what we have to do, we’re going to get the job done. Being No. 1, I always have myself as the underdog. Whoever my matchup is or whoever they’re hyping up, I say, he’s the No. 1 player and I’m the underdog. It motivates me to really go hard at him and not think about what people are saying in my ear.
I compete all the time. Sometimes dudes get tired. One dude I looked up to about that, when I played him, was Thon Maker. Thon was my biggest matchup. Me and Thon had the same game. I never met someone who runs the same speed as me on both ends of the floor, offense and defense. And Thon has a motor and that’s why I build a motor as well. I have a high motor. Most people say I don’t have a motor but I really do. So if you see me lacking, I’m really restoring energy, to be honest, at the right times. I can really shoot the ball consistently. I’m very mobile at both ends of the floor. I can guard any position. I guarded wings in the EYBL in the two early sessions. I can play the wing to be honest.
JB: What other NBA guys do you compare yourself to? Obviously Thon is one of them.
Ayton: All the face-up bigs. Thon, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Karl-Anthony Towns. [Kristaps] Porzingis. I really like Porzingis. He’s the one that really shoots the 3-ball out of all of them. I can see myself playing like him.
JB: How many people are you going to have at the Battle 4 Atlantis next season when Arizona plays in it?
Ayton: That’s gonna be huge. They’re selling tickets right now. It’s gonna be standing room only. They’re talking about it now. Standing room only. I can’t wait.
