We are about to go into the 2021 season with our head football and basketball coaches having a combined head coaching record of:

In Bobby Robbins's eyes, it's a historic first for an Arizona president to have hired undefeated coaches in both football and basketball.

First and foremost fuck Robbins, an absolute nightmare of a School President.

Two, the only name that even remotely makes this an acceptable outcome is Scott Drew, that is it, period.

Three, Robbins will probably hire Wyking Jones.

Fuck

The same way Roy Williams became the head coach of Kansas.

Hate to break it to you guys, but the man is infinitely more qualified to become our head coach than Damon is. Nobody else is a realistic option due to monetary (Muss) or sanction reasons. Lloyd is a quality coach guys, don’t be fooled because you can’t wrap your head around not hiring a head coach.

How quick with this wrap up? Lloyd or whoever it is has some work to do to in convincing current roster to stay.

Damon's job isn't safe at Pacific. Being more qualified than Damon is like 2/3 of D1 coaches.

Lloyd, I'm sure he's a fine assistant coach. I'm of the mind if he does well, he could produce results like the guy we just fired. He does average or worse and we just took a step back.

Lloyd is a big time hire imo and makes the firing of Sean Miller justified (albeit the way it was handled was a disaster). I’d feel a lot less confident in the hiring of Damon, and probably would have preferred another year of Miller with this roster as opposed to him.

Tommy Lloyd has only ever coached at one place.

I googled “Tommy Lloyd turns down” and couldn’t find even one article about how he was up for another job and turned them down.

I can guarantee you he would have had his pick of a bunch of mid major and likely other high major jobs this off-season and in prior off seasons, but he won’t be pried away from his head-coach-in-waiting situation at Gonzaga without a top tier job opening. Hopefully we are that opening that would convince him to leave.

Look, he might be a good coach.

But it's like considering a good local appellate judge for the US Supreme Court. Sure, one time Sandra Day O'Connor made the jump from midlevel Arizona appellate judge and did well.

The reality is that stands out because it's a one time success story and most times, that person isn't going to be in the universe of being considered. 20 year career assistant to top ten job isn't a normal, reasonable decision by the school.

Roy Williams is the one example from 32 years ago when this worked out well. In the 32 years since, no one's considered it. You can't convince me Lloyd is the first really good assistant to come around in 32 years and this is the generational opportunity where it actually works well.

Because he totally blew up all his recruiting connections on the west coast which is a big part of why UCLA canned him.

There are dozens of reasons -- and one of them is that Ben Howland is not a popular choice.

His style of play will make Miller look like the Showtime Lakers.

And I doubt Howland could ever repair the recruiting damage in SoCal.

Lloyd is Robbins' first choice. The interviews are for perception only -- to appease the fan base that former players are being seriously considered. That's why the info is leaked that Stouds and Simon interviewed yesterday and today. If Lloyd declines to come -- then Robbins is fucked and will spin the story that Stouds was his choice all along. The reality is that Musselman should be the guy -- but Robbins' doesn't have the $$ are the ability to pull him from Arkansas.

Hopefully just a courtesy interview, esp for Miles. Just have very little hope Damon can keep things going here. Like someone noted, he is a below average recruiter. Arizona does not recruit itself any more.
