Would SJ be the most talented player we've ever had to postpone going pro when he would've gone in the lottery?

Have we had any freshman do that before? DWill wasnt a projected 1st rounder freshman year right? He wasnt a lottery pick until half way thru his Soph season if I remember correctly

Mike Bibby as a frosh?

Sean as a junior?

I would guess both those guys are single digit picks if they came out a year earlier than they did.

Miles Simon. If not lottery, he would have gone a lot higher if he left after 1997. After that run, he would have been in the first round at least.

But yeah, it doesn't happen much.

He probably could. If he plays on the football team that opens up a scholarship on the basketball team. Costs the FB program a scholie, but they have 25 new ones per year, 85 total. Not just 13 total like basketball.

Stan needs some guidance on how long to make a tie...

He should probably only buy XL's, and he is too young to go with the double windsor... hopefully Doc hooked him up.

The double windsor is always apropos. Even at a young age.

Why? He had a fantastic senior season but didn't win a championship. If that dropped him from at least a 1st round pick to mid 2nd round pick, I imagine the scouts who scouted him didn't do much scouting.

Still, the point is well taken. Scouts are prone to get caught up in the hype. Winslow moved into a possible top 5-6 pick from the teens largely because of his play in the tournament. Last year, Hollis-Jefferson was projected as a mid-first-rounder after an impressive tournament, now suddenly after another year of experience, he is projected to go lower. Simon's reputation and stock was red-hot after he lead AZ to the title -- it is conceivable that he would have been a first rounder after that.

Hitting a hot streak at the right time makes you a hot name. Tyrus Thomas, Kemba Walker, heck, Sean May was a lottery pick. Some of those guys (well, one of those guys) had success in the NBA, but all vaulted into the lottery with big NCAA tourney performances.

Miles returning gave the NBA more film to see his limitations. Namely that he was not that quick, a tad short to be not super quick and not a deadeye shooter. Sometimes, mystery is good for a player's stock.

Also, 1998 NBA scouting was not what it is now.

The double windsor has been a no-no for a while now. Think it is more of a case of the older generation not keeping up with the times rather than it just being an older man's knot.

Soon he is going to be a rich man and his teammates will point him in the direction of a tailor and all will be well with the tie knot, tie length and that atrocious belt.

Tell that to Merril Hoge and the tie knot the size of his head.

The four-in-hand. The double windsor is what I was taught as well and I wore that about a year into my first professional job. The standard width tie is also out in favor of the slim/skinny tie.

I'm up to speed with the slim tie fad, which make a tight double Windsor not as fat.

Question: indentation or no indentation below the knot? I prefer indentation. Get of my lawn?

It was fun playing dress up the first few years, but I envy you. I have developed a dress shoe fetish, but outside of having an excuse to wear those, I am about done with wearing suits, ties and dress shirts, and slacks. Sometimes a man just wants to roll out of bed, throw on some jeans or chinos and a polo, and go to work, especially once you have a family. Probably why 95 percent of the time I am wearing basketball shorts and a tee when I am not working.

I'm on the same page with you on this one. This might as well be a discussion of how to properly wear your powdered wig. Ties are a worthless item of clothing that really need to go the way of the Tricorn hat.

Ties as you know them didn't exist until at least a hundred years after wigs and tricornes were popular.

Smile and frown.

Ditched the tie several years ago. Just wear slacks and collared shirt. Wear a sport coat if I need to "dress it up." Bunch of metrosexuals in this thread.

Now who's down with the sweater vest? This guy!
