I never even thought about that. As a cheap ploy, Miller should declare the entire Zona Zoo walk-ons, kicking them off the team as soon as they don't show up for a home game.

Not if you're listing scholarship players they do not.
So, for my own education level. A team is allowed 13 scholarships? How many walk-ons? What is the max number of players allowed on a roster?
13 scholarships is the max allowed, there is no limit to the amount of walk ons you can have on roster.

But only 15 total can travel, which seems odd sometimes when you see injured players on the travel squad. Maybe a free trip home for those from LA or wherever. But walk ons get so few minutes in away games anyway, so no big deal.

I really like the idea of recruiting Euros. Unless they are really good, like Lauri, I suspect they will stick around longer without entering the draft, or transferring. I am beginning to think that, overall, Euros are more suited for the college game. Perhaps it is because I don't see them in the AAU circuit.

Transition year. Build off this year to be able to win big the following year and years beyond that.

All we need to see is growth and progress throughout the season. Just make the NCAA tournament to get them some experience that will pay off big for the future.

Although the conference is looking wide open this year, probably for ASU if they keep Christopher from the G league and return White, Martin.

Thanks, Greg. It would be surprising if *all* of Oregon's early entrants returned, but it's reasonable to expect one or two back.

As someone noted upthread, Pac is wide open next season. Unless ASU gets everyone back.

Me too, because another cancelled season or even half-season starts to form a recruiting bottleneck in 2021.

As it stands, that roster is an assortment of Option A/Option B guys at every position.

I've posted it before, but this reminds me a lot of the '85-86 season under Lute, when younger players like Joe Turner, Kenny Lofton and Rolf Jacobs started exhibitions and early games only to give way to the Option Bs (John Edgar, Steve Kerr and yes, Sean Elliott and his freshman year knee injury) as circumstances took their toll.

That's what I think a lot of the "Arizona is cursed"/"the Cats have the worst luck" fans overlook--too many recruiting classes, especially with the OADs, had no other option, no program players to push the preferred recruits at those spots.

But what this roster makeup looks to present now are some default Option As and a lot of Option Bs on the table who could take over a position if they develop faster.

At the 1, for instance, we're all hoping Brandon Williams, best-case scenario, can start and take the majority of the minutes until Akinjo can arrive and get comfortable.

Jemarl Baker inherits the 2, but he could be pushed by Terrell Brown or Kriisa.

Dalen Terry looks to be the new blood at the 3, with Mathurin as insurance.

Ira has earned control of the 4 spot, but if he is not effective in more than limited minutes, that opens the door for Batcho or Gorene.

Jordan Brown is the heir apparent at the 5, but a sophomore Koloko could develop ahead of him.

That sort of competition was never an option at Mannion's or Green's spots. And the team looked frankly the worse for it when one or both of them had off nights.

BTW, IMHO that final schollie will go to Kory Jones for his final season, with Mains and Weyand forming the cohort of walk-ons to complete the 15-man traveling squad.

I wasn’t aware that Elliott had a knee injury his frosh season. He wore a brace, a heavy one at that, throughout high school after an injury well before his senior year.

I remember that, he said he wore although he didn't need it just for more confidence.

There were some questions about the extent of the injury the non-conference portion of his freshman year and how much he actually needed the brace.

He played one game, against San Diego State, without it in 1985. Scored 32 points. There weren't any concerns in the program about the knee after that.

I thought he injured his knee in high school, actually playing soccer.

I also think I heard all the painkillers he took is what caused his kidneys to fail and required the transplant.

I'm just happy to be done with OADs for one year. Losing three in one year might be business as usual for Kentucky and Duke since they just load up with five more McDsAAs. We don't have the ability to do that year after year, which is fine. Neither does Villanova. Neither does Gonzaga.

Unless I am misinformed, there is no vaccine and no good treatment for CV-19.

Unless a miracle happens, why would not the second wave of CV-19 repeat itself like what happened with the Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918?

Is Robbins just hoping that it will go away by itself?

One of the things that's driving creativity in preparing for things like a 2020 college basketball season and other sports is the recognition that time is limited and we can't just hide, whatever the challenges are. Some entities are built for adaptation and helping solve enormous problems for the people they serve. U of A has no political party affiliation.

I saw what Robbins said on the news, and I noticed he added (paraphrasing here) "Come June we might have to forget it, but for now we're planning to reopen in August."

So it sounds like he's planning for the best case scenario, but appears to be open-minded enough to know it might not happen. Since he is a medical doctor, I'm hoping he'll make the right decision in the end.
