Arizona's incoming freshman Stanley Johnson fits the bill, and he may be the best two-way player to hear his name called in June.

The 6'7" wing from Fullerton, California, is a strong, dauntless competitor who offers multidimensional offense and stout defensive versatility. He won a record four California state titles at Mater Dei High School, as he constantly showed the knack for adapting to fill his team's needs.

It's going to be insane. I was looking at the matchup with Gonzaga and its going to be fun watching him make Gary Bell's life a living hell, and of course pretty much everybody else on the schedule. Wish he could switch and guard Ski Booker, I don'tl ike that guy.

Can't wait to see this team running at full speed. Don't think scoring will be a problem. Miller thinks 4-5 guys will be in double figures. When they tighten up on defense, don't blink.

Rondae will get the smaller guard defensively.

tough to body up and block out this yrs AZ team in the man to man let alone out of the zone -- I foresee a lot of second chance points.

I have to think that most opposing coaches are going to challenge their players to stop their man. Zones from teams that run man will be a sign of defeat like Duke last year. Man that was sweet.

Many more shooters this season. TJ should have fun finding the open guys. I'm guessing Rondae's summer work will pay off big time. Stanley J has the potential for making things happen. I can see Miller smiling now.

Business, or more exactly finance should be required classes for these soon to be millionaires.

His offensive skill set is going to be fun to watch. He's on of the more physical players I remember at UofA since maybe Fendi, but obviously way more talented. Sort of reminds me of James Harden *barf*

Kevin Calabro, former voice of the Sonics, had an interesting comparison: Truck Robinson. SJ is better on the perimeter. Truck better on the boards and inside. Both beasts with a lot of skills.

But it’s not all about the numbers. To Miller, it’s also about the way he’s getting those numbers.

“A lot of Stanley Johnson’s plays are happening more through the confines of team play,” Miller said. “You expect a freshman to continue to grow and understand what we’re doing here and implement himself into it. That’s a credit to Stanley for learning and working.”

“I feel on this team if you’re locked in on defense, balls will come to you,” Johnson said. “When I play locked-in defense, offense comes a lot easier.”

Actually, they did come to him and his teammates. Late in the first half, Johnson picked off a Michigan pass and turned it into a dunk. As a team, Arizona turned 12 Michigan turnovers into 17 points.

Defense, turned fun.

“When we start smelling blood like that, we start to keep kills (three straight defensive stops) coming, keep stops coming and when we get out and run we’re at our best,” Johnson said. “I don’t think many teams can get back fast enough with our size and shooting to prepare for our offense if we can get stops on the defensive end.”

Johnson has helped Arizona hold its past four opponents under 40 percent shooting and generate a defensive efficiency mark of 88.9 (points allowed per 100 possessions) for the season, which is ninth best in Division I. Arizona allowed 88.5 points per 100 possessions last season, the best rate in the country.

“We’re a very good defensive team,” Miller said. “I don’t know if we’re along the lines of last season — last season we just took that next step. But we’ll see. Maybe we can develop into that. We don’t know yet. It’s still mid-December. We have a lot of different players contributing and they’re contributing on the defensive end.”
