I think today's win secures our 4 seed. 3 still possible if we win out in Vegas

3 isn't possible, according to NYC's good arguments in this thread.

a 3 is absolutely possible still. but it is looking like we're pretty much assured a 4 seed now. a 5 is a longer shot if we lose tomorrow, a 3 is a slight possibility if we win the tournament.

win the regular season Pac12 Conf outright and the Pac12 Conf Tournament and AZ gets the 3 seed WEST Region

If Arizona wins the tourney, a 3-seed also gives the committee an out on the problem of what to do with Arizona and Gonzaga. The NCAA doesn't want to ship either team, and the committee doesn't want to give either a 5-seed.

And it keeps them on either side of the West bracket as well. If AZ wins out, this will happen.

and sets up a potential fun elite 8 game for a trip to the final 4 between the two if they can upset their 1 and 2 seeds respectively.

Good analysis, guys

FWIW: potential remaining opponents for Zona...

Stanford - Q2
or
UCLA - Q1

and

Utah - Q1
or
USC - Q1

We could use a couple of Q1 wins...

Still, I'd rather be a 4-seed against a 1-seed Kansas.

UCLA, Utah & USC are possible quadrant 1 wins. But we currently have 3 so 2 more would put us at 5. Auburn currently has 7, Tennessee has 5 and is probably the only #3 seed Arizona could surpass. Tennessee not winning the sec tournament and Arizona winning the Pac 12 tournament probably gets Arizona the #3, since the last 10 games don't matter. Also Texas Tech, WVU winning the big 12 tournament could push Arizona out because they would have double the quadrant 1 wins.

Would the basketball gods ever be so kind, though? I'd trade in my Honda Fit for a Toyota Yaris if Duke's path could run through Arizona.

well the committee has a history of repeating the past, especially past years failure, especially as a higher seed.

Duke has never made the Final Four from the WEST Region, if they play their way into a protected seed, they will always be in the EAST or SOUTH, however when they are not protected they are almost always going to be sent WEST until they concur that feat.

If Duke is the unprotected two seed of the four, they will be in the WEST, and if Arizona wins out they will be the protected three seed in the WEST, so it very well could happen.

mix in that Duke has lost the last two times in the Sweet 16 in the WEST Region - to Oregon in 2016 and you guessed it, Arizona in 2011.

Duke being a 1 seed is probably their best shot at heading West. There is no natural West team so the West 1 will be the weakest 1 seed.

Seth Greenberg said last night that Duke can get a one seed because Xavier and Villanova will beat each other. Does he realize that both Duke and Virginia cant win the ACC tournament?

If Virginia beats Clemson today and reaches the conference finals they are a lock for a 1 seed regardless of what happens in that game. Frankly I still think they're a 1 seed if they lose tonight.

What AZ fans should root for today:

SMU over Cinci
Alabama over Auburn
Temple over Wichita St
Miss St over Tennessee
Virginia over Clemson
Duke over North Carolina
West Virginia over Texas Tech

And of course:

Arizona over UCLA

When selection committee announced top 16

Auburn was a #2
Arizona was a #4.

Records since that announcement:

Arizona (5-1)
Auburn (3-4) including losses to South Carolina and Arkansas

Everyone has Auburn ahead of us but this loss should propel us in front of them... if we finish up this Vegas trip with W's.

This was big for our chances at a #3.

There's just very little wiggle room to move up. There's only one spot left.

1: Villanova, Virginia, Kansas, Xavier
2: Duke, North Carolina, Purdue, Cincinnati
3: Michigan State, Michigan, Auburn, ____

Auburn with 7 Q1 wins is pretty much locked in at #3. Conference reg season/tournament titles won't move the needle as much as 2 Q1 wins vs USC/UCLA will. Just look at UNC who has 9 losses and won't win either title but is a #2 seed lock or Michigan State who has 4 total loses, a reg season conference title but only has 2 Q1 wins so they get a #3 seed. Arizona currently has 3 Q1 wins, adding 2 this weekend could push us over Tennessee or Texas Tech.

I feel like this is right. I think losing tonight means we worry about a 5, and the default middle is a 4.

My only request is if the committee is going to take in consideration the fact that Notre Dame has Colston and Farrell back then please look at the fact that Arizona only has 3 losses when we have our rightful starting 5.

i agree, but before tonight the national bracket consensus had them as the #2 rated 2 seed. 2 of the 3 teams ahead of them (duke and xavier) lost. if you go off of how a good 40 national brackets have them listed going into today...they are by default a 1 seed now.

Texas Tech just lost. That was very good for us. But I think Tennessee is surely ahead of us.

But I do have us over Auburn if we win tomorrow night.... making us team #12.... #3 in the West

We do not want West Virginia beating Kansas though... that would screw everything up

Was it after Arizona beat UCLA tonight that Lunardi moved Arizona from a 4-seed to a 5-seed? Playing Texas Tech as the 4-seed and Virgina as the #1 seed overall?
