Maybe we should just combine every thread in basketball since it affects next season. Except for the 2018 recruiting thread I guess.

No, that's silly. Feel free to move the original R Travis post to an appropriate thread in the rivals forum.

Hell he was more than that, he was already in grad school. He'll be granted a 6th year of eligibility because he missed the year due to the ACL tear.

Hell him coming in next year ensures he's at least a two years guy.

Outside of PG our likely biggest hole was a plus wing defender. Well now that hole has been filled. Akot reclassifying also helps greatly with 2018 wing recruiting.

Got it. So maybe Jeter was slightly overrated coming out of HS? He was a 5-star C/PF, with offers from Kansas, AZ, and Oregon. It seems most guys who rate that highly don't go on to become back-ups.
He was a 5 star because of his physical attributes. He has an NBA body and is explosive for his size.

He just doesn't have great skill and seemed to process the game slowly at Duke. 5 star physically, 2 or 3 star skill and IQ.

Akot reclassified from a 2018 recruit to a 2017 recruit, so he will be on next year's team as opposed to the following year.

Another words we just added another 5 star recruit to our 2017 class.

Hope so, because we're looking at quite an exodus if Akot is really good and departs: Ristic, Ayton, Trier, Alkins, PJC, Akot. Top 6 (possibly) gone.

One way to look at it: We're getting Ray Smith after all. A tall wing.

So is he leaving school early? How does one reclassify a year early and still meet all the curricular requirements that the NCAA supposedly care about?

Miller going for broke. Romer effect?

I can't see a world where Akot is a one and done with Zo and Rawle ahead of him, especially considering how raw he is. This is a guy with future lottery pick written all over him with his talent/measurements. He'll be here for more than one year. He's coming because Miller asked him to for one and for two to get a head start on development/being in the system for when he's a starter two years from now.

Ristic, Ayton, Zo, Rawle, PJC, Pinder, Denny are all gone after next season for sure. So yes we're having an exodus of the good kind.

Like most Canadians (Dillon Brooks included), he had already met all the requirements to enroll in college and meet all NCAA blah blah blah. He could've stayed in HS to develop a bit more if he wanted to, but Miller wanted him now and he'll further work on his development with live college time.

If Barcello isn't ready for back up minutes then Zo will likely handle the vast majority of back up PG minutes next year. Akot is a bit of a point forward so he'd help in the instances where Zo is at the 1.

He committed to Arizona in 18-19. He's now graduating High School early and coming in as a young freshman - eligible to play this fall. Scholarships all used up. And again - back up PG seems to be the only concern as of now. Barcello comes in like fire & they stay healthy - this team is as 'talent' good as any in the country. And better than just about all of them too.

I think it is a good move from Akot's perspective. If he waits to 2018, he still has a year in college to go. Why not spend 2017 getting exposure to higher level competition and see what happens?

PG - Alex Barcello
SG - Brandon Randolph, Dylan Smith
SF - Emmanuel Akot
PF - Ira Lee, Shareef O'Neal
C - Chase Jeter

Obviously there are numerous more recruits to be added to this namely a point guard, another wing, and a back up center. At the moment we wouldn't even have enough guys to practice 5 on 5. To answer your question though we'd have horses, but we're a good ways away from fielding a team still.

I would list our questions like this:

1. Is PJC good enough to fulfill the rest of the roster?
2. Post depth/is Lee ready to go?

The rest is just good and better. Akot has some real defensive potential, but you never really know what you'll get this early in his career. He and Randolph have sky high potential, though.

I really want Bol as well.

Add Williams , Cherry, and Bol or Bagley (I know likely TFerg route)

Then fill out roster w 2 transfers and u have 12 ships filled and a team ready to compete for back2back titles.

This is our team next year :

PJC
AT
RA
DA
DR

Bench :

Randolph (first sub, either for PJC w AT moving over or for one of the wings)
Lee (likely for DR at first whistle w DA sliding over)
Akot (will sub at the 3 and 4 a lot when we have an offensive group out there since he still needs work on that end)
Pinder (will be needed in rotation to give the bigs a breather. A lot like last year and maybe even more so w Chance gone. Hopefully he can develop a little game on O from 12 feet)
Smith (will get 5 min per game and will play a lavender role. Basically use him to space floor and if he's hot from 3 , ride it out, if not , not ur game. Luxury bench guy)
Barcello (remains to be seen if he can give us anything as a backup pg, if not, develop in practice , possible RS candidate if it's evident he's not ready in preseason and Trier can handle backup pg duties.
Denny : strictly garbage minutes or emergency foul or injury trouble (better not be)

Jeter : redshirt.

That is a loaded squad w depth. Just hope The Pg situation works itself out. The PJC theory will get tested this year as he has plenty of talent around him to succeed. His fragile body needs to stay healthy because it seems every year an injury sets him back a month or two. I actually have faith he can be good enough to fulfill this teams potential as a senior. And I think Trier will work enough on his ball handling and passing that he can get 10-15 burn at the 1 if necessary. I don't think Barcello will be ready but do think he will be big as an upperclassman.
