You were not kidding when you said the place was a dive. I swear it looks like they grabbed a dozen guys off the street to play us and brought their own refs to keep it close.
Would have loved a pic of Ray Smith dunking. That kid needs to start the last game his Sr year at the U. He can stand at the mid court stripe and first time we get the ball call a TO and get him out of there

I went back to get one and they cut the replay feed early and so the did the facebook stream. Some little kid was shooting on the hoop and Smith grabbed the rebound and went up with 2 hands for the dunk and hung on the rim. Still got it!azcat49 wrote:Would have loved a pic of Ray Smith dunking. That kid needs to start the last game his Sr year at the U. Nice pics. I'm sure the players appreciate that halfway across the world, there are still Wildcat fans at games.

Re: España
Thanks man. And there's no doubt they noticed and appreciated that. And because of the refs and the fact that it was close early and somewhat chippy, we were pretty loud for most of the game. It was awesome to see.Spaceman Spiff wrote: I played in nicer middle schools in the mid-1990's. Next game is going to be on blacktop.

Some of my thoughts from the game:
1) This team can shoot. It's going to be a really fun offensive year. 3pt threats all over the place and that's without PJC even taking one tonight.
2) Randolph is really impressive. In the first half he made a step back at the top of the key and I turned to Ramon and said "this kid's a shot maker" and he just gave me a look like "DAMN". He competes on defense pretty well and I think he has a lot of room for growth if he buys in and plays with intensity. Seems to have good vision too, although if I remember correctly needs to tighten his handles up a bit.
3) Ira Lee is a monster on defense. He had two (non)goal-tendings that were clear blocks that he came out of nowhere to pin on the glass, and the place was going nuts (partially because of the block and partially because of the refs).
4) We have some above the rim rebounders (and that's without Rawle who is also that) and while Ayton needs to figure out how to be in better help position on D, when he decides to go for a rebound look out, it's his. Trier, Randolph and even Smith should contribute well on the defensive boards, while Dusan is most certainly still a below the rim rebounder, but I thought again he looked more aware of where to pass the ball and am really encouraged by that.
5) I thought Parker played really tough defense and didn't receive any calls when he had the ball in his hands for the majority of the game when he deserved some. Someone mentioned how he lost the ball in the lane and got called for an offensive foul, which we all thought was hilarious besides how awful a call it was. I asked Parker's sister when was the last time he got called for a charge knocking someone over and she said "I don't ever remember it...probably like 5th grade
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
6) I really like Alex Barcello. I think he's got IT. I don't know when that will turn into serious productivity for us, but I believe if he sticks it out and stays here we will love him. He definitely needs to learn the defense but his instincts are just excellent on both sides of the ball. I held off on asking Ramon what he thought, because you could tell when he was in that he was a bit more serious and focused and I didn't want to mess with the vibe.
I actually found myself pointing out what I thought the right pass was in the moment and both PJC and Barcello delivered the pass I was looking for almost every time so was very pleased with that as it is definitely easier to see from the stands than on the court. Same goes for Trier when he had the ball in his hands. I think we might be very good at limiting turnovers and that's going to be huge for this team with all the weapons available to find easy looks.
I like the fact that both Dusan and Ayton have the ability to hit the elbow jumper, and I really hope we play some high low with them because I think it could be deadly.

This team we played was barely beat by Clemson not too long ago, it took a buzzer beater for Clemson to win.
Re: España
This team hung very well in the first half. There are lot of teams on our sched that won't do that to us.
Apparently the team we played Sunday was missing several key players so they scrambled to find bodies

I was actually excited to see Arizona go shirts vs skins. Alkins and Randolph may have felt a little homesick for the blacktops of NYC...dcZONAfan wrote:No not seriously. If Sean Miller ever left...there are a lot of legit fans here. I talk to casual fans in real life who are just realizing DeAndre Ayton exists.

Update:
A van has ploughed into crowds in Barcelona's Ramblas tourist area.
Spanish police say several people have been injured in a "massive crash", while emergency services are urging people to stay away from the area around Plaça Catalunya.
Reports from the scene say people are taking cover in nearby shops and cafes.
Reuters news agency reports that emergency services have requested the closure of local metro and train stations.
Marc Esparcia, a 20-year-old student who lives in Barcelona, told the BBC: "There was a loud noise and everybody ran for cover. There were a lot people, lots of families [at the site], this is one of the most visited sites in Barcelona.
"I think several people were hit. It was horrible, there was panic. Terrible."
He said he was now taking cover inside a Starbucks coffee shop.
