Since he is mormon and from UT and his final two appear to be Utah and BYU, the location and faith seem to have a lot to do with his decision. Also, has it even been decided if he is taking his 2-year mission? If he is, I'm not sure that Arizona would have wanted to commit to essentially a 2024 kid anyway.dmjcat wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:37 am According to this article Colin Chandler has dropped AZ from consideration

Interesting that article says the Porsche dealer was from Louisville not Lexington.
Honestly, seems like giving a kid a car like that would be more of a liability than a good advertisement.
Are these NIL deals deductible at all?
It would be funny if Weitman (sp) gave his kid a car and wrote it off as advertising under a NIL deal.

You could make the argument, not sure the auditor would agree.
Arizona State might have the most surprisingly anemic history in men's basketball of any program that you might think is better than it is.

Re: Let's Talk '22
Realistically I'm not sure how many guys we can take in the '22 class - we're likely to get hit with scholarship reductions for that class and I know the talk among the coaches is to try and bring back as many of the current group as possible, along with Dylan Anderson. Add in whoever Lloyd has cooking behind the scenes and finish off with a transfer if need be - that's all we can take unless we lose more than 4 guys.
Given how young and talented the current roster is, and the restrictions of recruiting with the IARP still pending, the above seems like the right course of action. We can reload in 2023 based on a clean slate from the NCAA and a couple of seasons of good play from HEAD COACH Tommy Lloyd.

Whenever the NCAA hammer drops, there's going to be short-term impact on our recruiting, so it's reasonable to expect the '22 or '23 class is going to be fairly depleted. But I'd expect us to bounce back quickly.

His name is likely future transfer, at least for that position. Koren Johnson is a very good player, but there's a reason Arizona hasn't recruited him since even before Sean Miller was fired.dmjcat wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 6:39 pmYoDeFoe wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:02 pmGood lord nodmjcat wrote: ↑Fri Nov 12, 2021 12:10 pm Perhaps we have a chance the 2nd time??

What Choo said.
Based on the IARP results and the roster movement at the end of the season, we’ll have clarity on what we need and opportunity to replace via the portal (with a non-headcase dude).

It's hard for me to use an Arizona comparison because guys like Rick Anderson and Radenovic were 4's and Anderson is a 5 who I'm 50/50 on how well he'd do as a stretch 4. A Grant Jerrett who plays with more verticality?IndianaZonaFan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:25 am Who is a decent comp for Dylan Anderson? Just curious about what role he will play.
I have an easier time in non-AZ players. Guys like Jessie Govan and Ryan Kelly come to mind. Bigs with a decent J who weren't super mobile but also not stationary, heavy interior guys. Anderson needs a bit of physical maturity to find his college niche.

I love the Ryan Kelly comparison, especially since he started off slow at Duke and was great as an upperclassmen. That's literally the route Dylan is likely to go here.Spaceman Spiff wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:23 amIt's hard for me to use an Arizona comparison because guys like Rick Anderson and Radenovic were 4's and Anderson is a 5 who I'm 50/50 on how well he'd do as a stretch 4. Re: Let's Talk '22
In part I picked those two because I have trouble seeing Anderson not needing a year or two to change his body and adjust to the college game. He has potential, but right now I doubt he's physical enough to bang with a true big or athletic enough to cover a quicker big. Offensively, he has a decent J, but it takes a second and his post game is mostly just catch and dunk or flip, which won't work in collegeChooChooCat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 11:53 amI love the Ryan Kelly comparison, especially since he started off slow at Duke and was great as an upperclassmen. Govan wasn't a regular starter until his junior year either, which is close to the track I figure Anderson would be on. Anderson needs a bit to work on himself physically and figure out how to do what he needs to do on the next level.
When I watch his HS vids, I see potential but also a lot of stuff that works on high schoolers only. He could use a year or two moving towards what will work vs people of similar physical gifts to him.

Re: Let's Talk '22
Yeah, Frye was a post threat here and became a spot up shooter in the NBA. I don't really see Anderson as either right now, honestly. He shoots well, but not like a Lauri Markannen who's a sniper. His release isn't super quick, so that will be an adjustment. His post game doesn't seem to have a ton of variety, and Channing had a nice jump hook at Arizona.gronk4heisman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 12:18 pm His game more resembles Channing Frye's NBA game than his time here at Arizona.

He did. Admittedly it's highlights, but Anderson shoots 3's and some dunks and layups, but I didn't see any midrange or pullup stuff.Postmaster wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 6:03 pm I was thinking Frye had a good 15’ shot by his senior year.

Channing really adapted in the NBA. His 3 point attempt rate was 0.014, 0.026, 0.022 and 0.124 his first 4 years. After that, he only had one year it was less than 0.500. He went from basically taking zero threes to that being the major facet of his game.

How many players do you think Lloyd will take from the transfer portal for next year?

Re: Let's Talk '22
My biggest question is can Lloyd be as good as Miller assembling a complimentary roster? I thought Miller was a genius in doing this. Look at the issues at Memphis to see how just recruiting talent doesn’t work

Great point, azcat, and I’m admittedly a Miller fan.
We’ve seen the “pieces don’t fit” effect all over the place - Duke, UK, ucla, definitely memphis (even when pastner was there). It’s impressive when a coach can build a roster that can form cohesive units, and not just clusters of star players that don’t work well together.

With Boswell likely committed already and likely to reclassify to '22, here's how next year's roster is looking like..
#1 Kylan Boswell
#2 Dylan Anderson
#3 Kerr Kriisa
#4 Oumar Ballo
#5 Adama Bal
#6 Shane Nowell
Could test the waters or leave if they have a good tournament:
#7 Azuolas Tubelis
#8 Dalen Terry
#9 Christian Koloko
#10 euro ???
#11 _____ grad transfer most likely
#12 scholarship sanction most likely
#13 scholarship sanction most likely

Re: Let's Talk '22
Forgot about them, so we'll have no spots left if 3 pro potential guys return and get the scholarship hit.
Unless one of end of the bench guards from this year decide to leave.
Tubelis leaving could very well free two. Koloko I'm not sure if he gains anything by coming back unless he's going to start hitting 3s. Terry could have a hot tournament and has the size and measurements that someone would take a flyer on him.
Having an open spot for someone else will depend on those 3.

I was actually expecting Boswell *wouldn't* reclassify, but perhaps Choo can enlighten us.
And I expect Larsson to start next season. I'm expecting our starting lineup to be:
Terry
Kriisa
Larsson
Tubelis
Koloko
If Koloko leaves, put Ballo in there.

Not entirely sure Boswell reclasses though we know Tommy would love to get him here young and give him a season to develop before turning him fully loose the following season.
Secondly though: we won't take two scholarship reductions in the same season, and we've already taken one this season.

If we allocate all our scholarships by the summer (we will), the NCAA isn’t going to force us to drop two guys on scholarship after the ruling inevitably comes late summer/early fall. The following year, yes they will. That season though, no. We can utilize 13 scholarships for next season if we want. I’m unsure if we do, likely depends on Koloko.RondaeShimmy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 11:30 amForgot about them, so we'll have no spots left if 3 pro potential guys return and get the scholarship hit.

With Koloko, I suppose it comes down to whether he can legitimately improve his stock with one more college season. He is not a lotto pick right now. Might he become one by the spring of '23? Kinda think his ceiling is mid to late first round.ChooChooCat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 11:42 am

If I had to guess, I'd say this is CK's last season in Tucson.
