Okay, you hit the most important point. When you're at the game, all you have is the noise of the crowd, your own screaming, and all the nonsense you hear immediately beside, before, and behind you. So what do you want for the audio feed on TV? Steve Kerr aside (who doesn't do it anymore), most color commentary is awful, irrelevant, and distracting. For once in your life, be honest with yourself: You can't stand anybody you watch a game with. Ask Chicat what it's like to watch a game with me. He tries to act like Walton is all stale, but there's no way he'd pick me or anybody else over Walton, if Walton were to show up in his living room wearing a duck poncho.

Bill just rambles. Its annoying during close games but he grew on me and now I love it. Get him and Gus together for a game. That might be magic.
