That's a dimension I don't think I can see without him. We don't return a guy I think can go get you 30 to keep you in a game you'd otherwise lose. Terry is a good player, but he isn't a guy who will produce points like Benn. Tubelis is as close as we'd have to a guy who can go get points, and I'm worried with him after a major funk to end the year.
True. Think you're talking about an "alpha." As great as Terry is, and as productive as Tubelis has been, neither of those two is an alpha offensive player. We need an Akinjo or Lyons type.
IMNSHO, neither of those guys fit CSL's style - both are/were "me first" ball hogs and slow the offensive flow...

Okay, those weren't the right players to name, then. I meant a player who can get his shot whenever he needs, and who can get 30 at times. Akinjo and Lyons *did* have that ability, but we could do without the "me first" mentality.

Yeah...and also a guy who can force the opponent to gameplan for him. Mathurin, the D had to respect his individual scoring. Koloko, opponents had to account for him.

That's what I see a lot less of this coming year. Who are the guys the opponent needs to account for in preparation? We have a lot of good complements, but I worry we lack the guys to complement.

Yeah, I mean, he would basically have been guaranteed to sit behind Ballo and been buried if Koloko returned. A true C isn't particularly appealing unless it's someone fine with a limited role.

This would be BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG - kid is going to be a lottery pick next draft, 10000%.

Feel has consistently been he's going pro (G League). But who knows, here we are now getting a visit.

Miller is a weird prospect for me. His game looks so unfinished and loose. You can see he's long AF and decently athletic. His jumper defies all laws of nature by going in at a decent rate, but...man it just seems so raw with him.

Oh I love this dude haha - not an elite athlete but has great body control, high motor, and a nose for finishing or rebounding through contact. He's a combo forward with guard skills who definitely will get buckets all game long, no matter what. Great two way potential with his length and fluidity. Like you said, that jumper is ugly, but it goes in.

Definitely a question of if he's just dominating by being a decent SG in a PF's body at the high school / AAU level. But that's pretty applicable to incoming freshman with size.

He's 6'10" with a 7'3" wingspan and plays like a 2 guard that rebounds aggressively. I love it.

FWIW, I only watched the highlights of the hoop summit, but I was white knuckling it every time he put the ball on the floor like he was Dylan Smith.

He does seem aggressive, certainly, and looks like he plays hard...he also worries me he'd be continually going 1 on 3 and throwing the ball into the 15th row. It's that thing, he could be a KD with and ugly jumper or a turnover machine. I get the ceiling, but I just didn't see refinement.

If he refines it out, no joke, he has comparable physical skill to KD, IMO. KD is who he is because of his basketball skill, though. I didn't see any in between in Miller's game, he's popping a three or going to the rim and it scares me when he does either one.

Carolla used to be a carpenter when he first got out of HS. It wouldn't be bad if he would stick to that with his show with Stromer and quit giving us his positions on how important family life is (he's getting divorced) and politics (he's a Fox loving a-hole).

Not to derail this thread even further, but yeah, Carolla is the worst. Used to be a fan when he was on KROQ and Loveline, but he's since shown his true colors and seems to get worse each year.

Anyway, here's hoping Stromer ends up outside the Pac, if he's not coming to AZ.

Not to derail the Adam Carrola talk, but I'd say at this point we could probably use at least one more big, wing and backup pg/combo guard. Projecting in Bal, Nowell and Anderson, they just compensate for losing Kier, Benn and Koloko.

So all 3 have to be ready next year to handle rotation minutes or we're short. Adding in, I doubt any one can be ready to spell Kerr like Kier did.

Another name of interest for Kentucky? Five-star senior Leonard Miller, who took an official visit to Lexington this past weekend. Teams like the 6-foot-11 wing as a long-term prospect, but believe he will be a multi-year player in the G League if he enters the draft immediately. Down to Arizona, Kentucky and the G League Ignite, the consensus in league circles is that Miller doesn’t want to go to school and would prefer the pro route. There was talk after his visit to the Ignite facilities that he contemplated signing with the program before leaving, but opted to follow through on the college visits. His trip to Kentucky went well and certainly gave him something to think about, but the scout made it clear he would be shocked if Miller went to school.

Didn't you mean "He's 6'3, Boum!"

I just wonder because we're almost assuredly selling a transfer on being a backup with Kerr, Terry and Larsson pretty entrenched. I don't know if you leave 19 ppg for your last college year to be a backup.

I doubt he says yes, but he got 19ppg playing for UTEP - a team that hasn't made the tournament in a dozen years (and hasn't made the second weekend in 30). Their only game against an at large team had them getting blown out by Kansas. Their only meaningful win was a two point home win against North Texas to finish the season.

I'm sure he can go to a potential tournament team and start. Not sure there's a chance he can join a title contending team and get a bigger role than sixth man. Still think he does the former but there's reason to say yes to the latter.

***yawn*** hard pass. I understand the need to plug holes in the roster, but this ain't the guy. He would need to be near the level of that K-State guy to move the needle for next year. I like the Euro that we picked up, and if the WSU transfer was smart he would take the same path that Larsson did. I mean, he could dramatically improve his stock; there's not too many programs that offer the advantages that we do.

I'm kinda curious to see how everything shakes out.

We're in a weird place with transfers in that we pretty much have the starting rotation locked down for next year. It has to impose a significant limitation when everyone knows if a kid picks Arizona, exceedingly unlikely they can start.

Like you say, there are other landing spots that a kid can look to that have a tourney roster, but also a starting guard position up for grabs. We're sort of stuck selling bench roles.

Ditto, I think that he could really skyrocket here. Especially considering the way that everyone improved last year. He already knows the conference and would have an extremely strong supporting cast. I would have no problems starting him over Ballo. He's just more dynamic in my opinion.

To Spiffs point, I don't see selling bench roles as a negative. I hate to use his name but Remy shows that a lot of high level guards want to win a championship or a FF before they hit the overseas market. If I'm Lloyd that's a selling point that I would focus on. Great players on bad teams would love to be a part of this kind of culture and get a chance to make some noise in the tourney.

Just think of this: Remy Martin will forever be cherished by Kansas fans and he spent just about his entire career in Tempe.

Prediction:

We're not taking another big man / forward (beyond the Euro we've been targeting all year, who we're all hopeful / patiently waiting on). We'll take a combo guard for a bench role. That should be it for the roster. We'll leave a roster spot open to total two forgone scholarships since Tommy took over, which ought to account for the entirety of our scholarship hit in this summer's IARP punishment.

Not at all a hot take, just how it looks like this will play out.

Agree with this - don't think we need anyone else. If Nowell leaves, I'd be curious if we look to add one more guy - in that case, we'd have two open scholarships + one scholarship being taken up by Tautvilas, so I think it would make sense to add another guy capable of contributing in an injury pinch. Wouldn't mind a reclass of Boswell or KJ Lewis in that situation just to get them on campus early, even if they won't play a big role year 1.

Yup, very far from a hot take.

Thing is if he doesn’t have a draft stock after 5 years in college, where he just came off averaging 19ppg, then he’s never going to have a draft stock. If he’s staying in college for another year you’ve gotta think it’s to actually win games.
